Link dropped down into one of the chairs, glancing sideways as Maverick followed him into the room, asking how they were going to make keith pay. He’d only met his oldest brother a couple of times throughout his life and he didn’t care to waste his energy on making the guy pay. All he was concerned about was Jayce. They may not have gotten along all the time but he still loved him, even if he was a giant pain in the ass. He turned his head as a breathless Creven barrelled into the room with his hands bleeding and a million things falling from his mouth. ”Jesus Crev. . what did you do?” He asked the panicked kid, watching as their father sorted him out. It was Nash’s turn to say something then, turning his attention away from the youngest Breckah to the second. He was about to ask him to explain but Stephen beat him to it, telling them to wait for the head of the family to speak. His brown eyes landed on Sean waiting for the answers to all of their questions when a familiar footsteps followed by a voice filled the silence. The last of the clan had arrived. It felt like it had been forever since they had all been in the same room together. Well. .nearly all of them.
He listened to his father’s explanation, a mixture of emotions appearing on his face as the story went on. He hadn’t realised Jace’s outbursts had become so violent towards sean. He’d been to busy keeping himself away from the house and the memories that filled it and the nightmares that plagued his room. Maybe if he hadn’t been so focused on himself he would have saw what was happening at home, could have done something to stop it. His face was set in a frown the second Sean mentioned what Keith had done. He didn’t know him well enough but he was pretty confident his brother was a conniving prick. Sean’s last words threw him. ”What!? Dad no-one’s leaving..” He looked around the room at each of his brothers. ”No one else is leaving this family. .” He couldn’t lose anyone else. His gaze lingered on Derek for a little longer than the others. He knew his relationship with Sean had been strained since their mother passed and if anyone was to leave it would most likely be him. He took a few silent breaths to calm the rising feeling of anxiety. He wouldn't have an attack in front of them. "please." He said softly.

"if you feel like you need to, count again." Link slowly began to calm down as he counted to 10 three times. It started to get easier to inhale as his breath began to regulate with each passing number. The sounds around him began to come back and the dizziness started to subside. Eventually, he lifted his head again to look at the stranger that had come to his rescue. ”thanks. .” He said, his voice a little scratchy. ”I usually only have those at home, at night. . kinda threw me having one in public.” He admitted, resting his hands on the wall behind him to help ease himself to his feet. He glanced behind the broad guy at some of the shoppers who had paused to look in his direction, some shaking their head, some giving him a sympathetic glance. ”Guess I made a spectacle of myself.” He muttered.
"Make sure to try them all at once." He snorted and rolled his eyes at her ”You’d think you wanted me dead saying things like that Theia.” He joked with a grin. "Age doesn't matter, only that you're the baby." He smirked and threw a scrunched up napkin at her. ”Funny.” He said before disappearing to check the kitchen and returning once he saw everything was in order. "Slacking off already? It's only the start of the shift and all." He shrugged his shoulders with a grin. ”Theres nothing to do!” He began to protest until the sound of a bell ringing shifted his attention toward the front door as a group of people began to pile in. ”Okay now there’s something to do. .” he said, walking over to greet them and take them to a table.

”Right here?” He shrugged as his brothers own grin crept away. ”Yeah? Can take the rest of the stuff back for the others after.” He said, placing the box in between them both. It may have been weird to eat at a cemetery but as long as they cleared up after themselves it wouldn’t be disrespectful, he hoped. Besides, he wasn’t quite ready to leave his mum’s grave just yet and he was starving. ”Sorry mum,” He smiled and nodded to the headstone as he picked up his own slice. ”Ohh, this is good stuff, He bit into his own with a grin. ”I always nab the good stuff.” He said before savouring his own piece. ”Not as good as mum’s food though, sorry dude” He shrugged ”I know, I didn’t make it anyway, no offence here.” He smiled again. ”don’t eat the leftover pasta in the fridge. God knows what dad put in there but it’s dodgy as hell” He snorted, almost choking on the food in his mouth. He forced himself to swallow before answering. ”Maybe I’ll throw it out and replace it with the leftovers I took then.”

"Math? Ew, don't tell me you are still in school?" He half panicked internally, thinking he’d blown his cover. ”Uhh well yeah I’m in college. . taking maths and business.” He said. It wasn’t a lie. . he may have only just left high school in the summer but he was starting college in the coming weeks. "No one has come up with a nickname for me yet, but I do think that's a good thing." He smiled, quite liking his own nickname. ”Oh you don’t want one then? Do you just get Kennedy all the time?” He asked. "I like to think so too, thanks. I'll have to start thinking of a Halloween one here shortly. Ah everyone says that but with some practice I'm sure we can get that right foot back on." He let out a laugh and shook his head ”Yeah I’m pretty confident I’d still have two left at the end of it.” He said. "Really? Are your friends here for some sort of party or something?" He shook his head again. ”No I’m here alone, my friend had to leave early.” He wasn’t about to tell her he’d been kicked out for being underage. "So what do you do with your friends anyway? I'm really not much of a beer drinker either." He shrugged his shoulders. ”Hang out, play video games. .” He said, not finding it weird that they didn’t really party.

"Now I see why you go by Link. I thought maybe you were good at technology or something." He snorted softly and shook his head. ”I’m alright at technology but I prefer maths.” He grinned slightly. "I sure hope so. Dancing is hard work. I even come up with the choreography myself." He smiled. ”Impressive. . you must have a good imagination.” He said, about the choreography. "Do you like to dance? Or what do you like to do at the Lounge?" He let out a laugh. ”Oh no, I have two left feet. .and this is actually the first time I’ve been here.” He said then took another sip of his beer. "Is getting drunk not cool anymore? Or does it just not taste good?" He shrugged his shoulders. ”Uh. .maybe? My friends don’t really drink so I’m not sure. .I’ve tasted better.” He grinned a little, beer wasn’t the best tasting drink.

Link closed his eyes and let the music wash over him, allowing the memories he’d refused to think about for the past few months resurface; his mum dancing to this song in the kitchen when she thought nobody was watching, her humming or singing to herself whilst cooking dinner, her soft nightly lullabies that had sent him and his brothers to sleep. He inhaled softly and rubbed a hand across his eyes to remove any tears that threatened to spill before opening them again. ”It’s not like illegal to play music here, ya think? Did you work? Do you have any leftover pizzas?” He breathed out a laugh and shook his head. ”I don’t think so. .only if it’s disrespectfully loud?” He guessed. He shrugged off his backpack with a smile and opened it up to reveal leftover pizza and pasta in some takeaway boxes. ”Have at it.”

Link’s footsteps paused as his voice startled his younger brother. ”Link, mate....” He lifted his hand in a half-hearted wave as his lips turned into an tigh smile in greeting. Why did he suddenly feel awkward, his brother wasn’t a stranger. He shook off the weird feeling he was experiencing and finished the last few steps to the grave, bending his knees to lower his backside down onto the grass to sit next to Nash. ”I was just….yea… I think she would like it?” He gave his brother a sad smile, one that didn’t quite reach his eyes. ”Yeah I think she would too.” He said, resting a hand on Nash’s shoulder for a moment. He looked back to the grave and pulled his knees up to his chest, resting his chin on them. ”God I miss her so fucking much bro.”

"Link? Is that some sort of nickname? Or did your parents really call you that?" He smirked a little at the directness of her words. ”Yeah it’s a nickname for Lincoln.” He responded. Given some of his brothers names, he thought his was a decent one. He liked his nickname. "You mean someone that works here? I really don't think anyone would do that. I'm a bit difficult to work with. Though I did just hire a personal trainer." He shrugged his shoulders at her answer to his suggestion. ”Oh right. . well that’s good I suppose?” He guessed. Building strength was always a good thing. "So, you drink beer often then?" He lifted the bottle and took a sip before turning back to the brunette. ”Every now and then. . I’m not a big drinker.”

Link had been at the end of his shift when he’d received the message in the family chat from Stephen. Something big must have happened for their father to call a family meeting so suddenly. The last time their father had called a family meeting was after their mother had died. He’d clocked out of work begrudgingly quickly, unable to stick around and chat with his co-workers/steal leftover pizza like he normally did in order to get home on time for the first family dinner they’d had in a long time. Link usually tended to have dinner in his room or just eat after work. During his walk home, he called his younger brother to find out if he knew what was going on and got a brief summary of the shit that had gone down this afternoon. Reaching his house, Link inhaled deeply and headed inside, dumping his backpack on the banister before walking into the dining room where his father was. ”So. .what the fuck happened today then?” He asked.

"I'm usually here most nights if I'm not busy with my other job. I'm sure you know my name already, but what's yours?" He smiled and gave a slight nod. He’d heard her name being announced before her performance and it had stuck in his mind. ”Link.” He thought about giving a false name for a second but decided against it. "Well someone's a smooth talker. I do think I need to find someone to teach me some lessons though. Keep myself in shape when I'm not dancing." He refrained from snorting at the compliment. He’d never been a smooth talker. He didn’t even know how he was managing to speak to the girl without falling over his words. Girls had never been easy to talk to. Maybe the confidence of pretending to be older was working some magic. ”I’m sure you could find someone here to teach you.” He watched as the bar tender came over and acknowledged him with a tilt of his chin. "Do you know which kind of beer you'd like?" He glanced at the beers in the fridge and made his choice. ”I’ll take a corona, thanks.”

"Yeah, drink something to excess until even the smell of it makes you feel sick." He grinned and pretended to count on his fingers. ”Well. .i’m almost there with cheap cider. .only about another hundred drinks to try then.” He joked. "Oi, Behave yourself, young one.” He gave a snort in response and broke out into a grin. ”Aren’t you only like 1 or 2 years older than me?” He retorted, already knowing the answer. He disappeared momentarily into the kitchen to see if the staff had done their prep and sauntered out a few minutes later. ”They’re done. . guess we can relax until the customers start piling in?” He said, copying Theia and leaning against the bar with a grin, fully aware the answer would probably be no but he could dream.

Lincoln shuffled his feet in closer and wrapped his arms around his knees, lowering his head to rest on them as he took long deep breaths, not even realising tears had begun to fall. He didn’t see the strange looks of people walking past to get to the next isle, or hear the huff of disgrace from others. He didn’t care what people thought of him. Anxiety & panic attacks were real, no matter how many people thought it wasn’t. He tried to calm the racing thoughts in his mind but it was proving to be difficult. Whenever he had attacks at home it was usually triggered by a nightmare and he was able to come out of it when he realised he was in the safety of his own bedroom. A day time attack hadn’t happened since the following days after his mother’s passing/funeral but even then he’d been at home or alone. Being in public was a new one. "count to ten kid." The new voice made Link raise his head, momentarily distracting him. He did as he was told, counting to ten quietly out loud, gradually calming himself down.
Lincoln swung his leg over his bike and pushed his feet down firmly on the peddles, pushing the bike forward as he left his workplace behind. He’d had an early shift at the pizza express which meant he had the rest of the afternoon at his leisure. He’d been trying to stay away from the house as much as he could since his mum had passed, especially with Jace kicking off every five minutes and Derek complaining about the mess. If Link wasn’t there to contribute towards it, it wasn’t his problem. He always got fed at work and late shifts allowed him to take home any leftovers rather than the restaurant throwing it away. Maybe pizza and pasta wasn’t the healthiest diet but he at least tried to garnish some of it with salad and pineapple was a fruit. .he occasionally took home Hawaiian.
With the last of his exams coming up, he’d been spending most of his spare time – when he wasn’t at work or with friends – at the library. He followed his usual route towards it, taking some back roads and cutting through some housing estates until he got to his short cut at the cemetery. He’d convinced himself coming this way was quicker than going along the main road – it wasn’t – but it gave him an excuse to stop by his mum’s grave. It was quiet and peaceful there. He used to think cemeteries were creepy, until his mum passed. Now it was a place he could sit with his own thoughts.
Link rolled his bike to a stop a little ways back from the grave when he noticed someone there. Nash. It had been a while since he’d had a proper conversation with his younger brother, only seeing him in passing at home and briefly in school. He’d taken his mum’s passing hard - as he had, as they all had. Curious as to what he was saying, he stepped off the bike and edged closer to his brother, hearing the sound of music playing, making him smile. ”Mum’s favourite song.” He said softly.

Link shoved his hands into his pockets to protect them from the cool wind that blew through the high street. If he'd have known it was going to be this cold he would have added a hat to his outfit. Stupid weather app was never accurate. It should have been over eight degrees but it felt like it was under zero. He was on his way home from college but had decided to have a little nose in some shops on the off chance he found some Christmas presents for his family. He figured he'd probably have to get most of his brothers presents online, begrudgingly including jace, as they all had their own unique taste. Crev would probably be happy with something football related, mav was harder, maybe something horse related - or a new shot glass to take the piss. Stephen, maybe a new journal, he was always writing. He smirked to himself as he thought of what to get derek, just to wind him up - some new tupperware. He pushed open the door to one of the charity shops on the street, hoping he'd get lucky. His wages were absolutely abysmal being a sixteen year old and this month's pay had to stretch for seven presents.
He stepped into the store and began browsing the isles, the familiar smell hitting him like a train bringing back memories from last christmas. He'd often accompany his mother christmas shopping, always curious to see how she knew what each of them would like. It couldn't have been easy keeping track of the changing likes and dislikes of eight kids. His hand reached out to rest on the wall in front of him as his heart began to pound in his chest whilst the blood pounded in his ears. He thought he'd had a handle on it, had a reasoning with his mind. Panic attacks only happened at night, in the comfort of his own bed. He hadn't anticipated being triggered. He inhaled deeply as his chest tightened, unable to get enough air into his lungs. The world slowed around him and his breath became sharper and faster as he turned around, sliding down the wall to sit in the corner, fully immersed in the attack.
