"Do you all live like savages?" Link took a sip of his coke as he looked at Derek, tilting his head slightly with a grin. ”Yup. .that reminds me, I need to go sharpen the spears before we go hunting later.” The last month had been tough, organising a house with a million males - adolescent males at that - was a nightmare. He didn’t know how his mother had done it, which only made him miss her more. He’d tried figuring out the washing machine and could successfully wash most things now without doing much damage. The first few tries had been a disaster. He’d almost flooded the place but practice makes perfect – reading the manual also helped. "aren't you supposed to be the genius?" He shrugged, picking up the toastie. ”I am a genius. . just an easily distracted one” He rolled his eyes as he heard Jace’s outburst, making a cat fighting noise before biting into his toastie, letting his brothers deal with the tantrum.

"As long as you aren't stirring up trouble like Jace, and being responsible," Link let out a snort as he smiled, shaking his head. ”I know mischief is my middle name but I never get kicked out of class or fail anything.” He said, never liking being compared to his older brother. "That's very good to hear, At least you're confident about it. Your mother would be incredibly proud of you, you know that right?" Link picked at the tips of his fingers, trying to distract himself from the overwhelming sensation of grief that threatened to pull him under at the mention of his mother. He swallowed, fighting back the lump in his throat as he looked back to his dad. ”I know. . I feel like she’s still watching over me. . you know.” He said, smiling sadly. "Very proud indeed. You need anything for any of your other classes?" He shook his head. ”No, I’ve got the last few exams next week then I’m done for the summer. . then the college life begins. .” He said with a small grin.

Link looked up at the sound of approaching feet, years of living under the same roof helped him identify the body before he'd even entered the room. Jace. He narrowed his eyes slightly at the sight of his brother covered in cuts and bruises, again. "The fuck are you doing home already?" He shrugged lazily and jerked his chin towards the clock hanging on the kitchen wall. "School finished an hour ago dumb ass." As his brother moved closer, he got a better look of the fresh cuts on his face. Clearly they'd happened recently.
His head swivelled at the sound of knocking at the back door, revealing his older brother as he stepped inside holding a mountain of containers. He smiled and eyed the food gratefully as Derek put them on the counter. "Hey, thanks." He said, gesturing to the food. "What trouble did you get into now?" Link snorted and rolled his eyes. "been running his mouth again obviously" He said then lifted his sprite to his lips to take a sip as his other brother wandered into the room, nodding a 'hey' to him. "the better question to ask him is what didn't he do." He smirked slightly, agreeing with Mav. "are you cooking that or burning it?" He looked down at the grill and popped open the lid before his toastie had time to burn. "thanks." He fished out the hot snack and tossed it between both hands as he lowered it onto the plate nearby to stop his hands from burning. "How're you doing?" He asked, looking back to Mav.

"You sound surprised, can't say I blame you. I haven't exactly be around much have I?" Link shrugged and leant against the opposite beam. He hadn't really been around much himself with school every day and picking up some extra shifts at the pizza place to try and save some more money. "Honestly no. .but I've only really been around in the evening anyway." After the funeral he'd spent weeks holed up in his bedroom but now he spent as less time as he could at the house. It just didn't feel like a home anymore. He needed to keep busy. So busy that by the time he did get home, he went straight to bed and crashed out, only to wake hours later screaming into his pillow to muffle the sound as the nightmares began to kick in. He'd had them almost every night since he'd heard the crash on the phone but he wasn't about to tell his brothers about that problem. "How was school?" He couldn't help but smile slightly. "Great. .I think I aced my biology exam."

Link made his way into the house via backdoor and hung his bag up on the coat rack on the wall. He glanced around the kitchen to see the dirty dishes that had been piling up in the sink this morning were now cleaned and drying on the side. He glanced at the clock wondering if one of his brothers had gotten home early and had a clear round, he doubted it unless it had been Derek. He tried to pop in a couple of times a week which he appreciated. Link was planning on getting around to it after school but now he didn't have to which he wasn't complaining about. He opened the cupboard to grab a packet of crisp and couldn't hide the surprise on his face to find it stocked with goods, along with the fridge. Maybe Derek had been round earlier than usual.
He pulled open the crisp and popped one into his mouth as he moved towards the lounge to check if his dad was still breathing. He pushed open the door quietly and poked his head around, frowning slightly when he wasn't in his usual spot on the couch. He paused in the hallway and listened for any movements from above but couldn't hear anything. He rubbed a hand along the back of his neck as he headed for the front door to check whether the car was still in the drive, hoping his dad hadn't gone to get more alcohol under the influence. Link pulled open the door to see his dad on the porch with the dog and lifted his brows in disbelief. "Dad, you're up? Hey. ." He said, stepping onto the porch and bending down slightly to scratch the dog on the head.

Link walked from the bus stop along the road towards the housing estate with his rucksack slung over his left shoulder. He'd not long finished school and was keen to get home and hole back up in his bedroom - his safe haven lately. Exams were in full swing at school which meant his usual overactive brain was more lively than usual. It had been english lit today, which meant lots of writing, trying to cram all of the thoughts and ideas that swirled around in his head onto paper in the allotted time. Never an easy task. He glanced at the larger houses as he strolled past, heading to his own home at the end of the avenue - where the more budget friendly options where. He had to admit they did live in a nice area. He hadn't known anything different but he couldn't imagine living in a busy city. There was something calming about small towns.
Reaching the house, he fished his key out of his jeans pocket to open the door before walking inside. Link dumped his bag over the banister by the straps then moved into the kitchen, not bothering to announce his presence to anyone who might already be home. His dad was probably passed out on the couch and he didn't feel like dealing with him under the influence at the moment. He grabbed a can of sprite from the fridge and all the stuff he needed to make a ham & cheese toastie. He'd have to wrangle some money out of his dad at some point since they were running low on a few things. He jumped up onto the counter and cracked open his can, taking a sip while he waited for the toastie to cook under the grill.

He is extremely intelligent and isn't afraid to show it. He has a very curious mind and is a complete bookworm - most of his downtime is spent with his head in a book, absorbing everything like a sponge. He has an aptitude for maths with past teachers donning him a math wizard. His academic prowess has given him a slight ego which sees him gloating in front of his siblings. Taking delight in being one of the only ones to not fail a test in the family. He may not have the brawn but he has the brains. He was definitely a smart ass. Link is a pretty logical person and will most likely point out the illogical side of his family/friend's plans. He can always be counted on for his blunt rationality, particularly when it comes to warning others against their own stupidity.
It takes him a while to trust others and can be a little suspicious of people's intentions but once that trust is gained he is fiercely loyal to those he cares about and will often value his friends needs over his own. Due to his ADHD he can be very hyperactive at times which will sometimes cause him to be scatter-brained and easily distracted which usually gets him in trouble in class - although his teachers aren't as hard on him since he gets all his work done. His overactive mind has caused him to be a very observant person, often catching things other people would miss. The tragedy has also made him realise how vulnerable life can be, making him more protective of his family.
the history
father • Shaun Gavin Breckah, 43, boxing coach mother • Tracy Breckah [deceased] siblings • keith, derek, stephen, maverick, jace, paul & connor important people • none hometown • hickstead overall history • Link was the the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak in terms of the family having to pack up and move to the small town of Hickstead. For the past sixteen years, it's been the only place Lincoln has had to call home which gave him more of a settled childhood than his siblings. Growing up money was always tight but his parents scraped and saved when they could, making sure their growing family didn't go without. Having seven other brothers - he definitely didn't need to worry about finding someone to play with. One of his first memories is terroring his older brother Jace as a toddler. The small age gap didn't help - Jace was the only one who was a similar height which meant he was ideal to play with. Jace however didn't agree and could often be found running in the opposite direction of Link. He soon grew tired of chasing him and moved on to entertaining his younger siblings once they came along. Growing up he loved being around his other older brothers, particularly pranking them.
As a young teen, he was diagnosed with ADHD which explained a lot. He'd always been pretty impulsive, hyperactive with terrible time keeping skills. It also helped him understand why he'd always get obsessed with certain topics he found interesting, often getting lost down a rabbit hole. Since being on medication his symptoms are still there but are more manageable. During most of his school life, he was always getting into trouble, mainly for talking in class but instead of hating him, most of his teachers liked him as he could still get all of the work done to a high standard, particularly in maths - an area which he excelled in. By fifteen he'd already received top marks in his maths GCSE, something he was happy about as it meant one less exam this year.
Link loved using his brain's to wind up his brothers - mainly Jace, as his lack of understanding amused him, especially when he got frustrated - he'd always been pretty easy to wind up which made him more of a target. Another thing Link loved as he grew up was boxing with their dad. It was a right of passage into the family, daily boxing lessons to teach the kids to defend themselves - mainly from each other. Although Link doesn't like fighting and would never do it professionally, he had a nack for it - he was quick on his feet and could throw a decent punch for his frame. He mainly enjoyed going to town on the bags rather than sparring with an opponent but he'd do it occasionally at his father's insistence.
Last month, Lincoln's world came crashing down around him. The heart of the family - his mother, had died suddenly in a car accident. He'd been on the phone to her when it happened and heard everything. A memory that still haunts him months later. She'd been on her usual drive home from work and he'd rang her to see if he could skip family dinner in order to go out with friends. There had been a sharp intake of breath and then a long pause before the sound of crushing metal came. It was sickening. The line went dead and nobody picked up the phone for what seemed like hours. Link began freaking out until a paramedic finally answered to tell him his mother had been in an accident and was being rushed to hospital. That was when his first panic attack hit which made him freak out even more. One of his brothers found him in a corner, wedged behind the couch and managed to calm him down. He broke the news to his brother who then did the rounds, calling the rest of the family before dragging Link into the car to drive them both to the hospital where they were told she'd passed at the scene.
Link battled with guilt internally, thinking his phone call had distracted her - causing her to crash until the post mortem results came back - showing she'd had a heart attack causing her to crash. He was relieved but broken at the same time. The funeral was a complete blur for Link and he was zoned out for most of it. The following weeks kind of followed suit; he spent a lot of time holed up in his bedroom grieving alone. His dad had taken to drinking to numb his own pain while Jace acted like nothing had even happened. Once it became clear their dad wasn't sobering up any time soon, Link pulled himself together to help his siblings look after their younger brothers and keep the house chores in check. After a few weeks off school, he's now back studying for his upcoming exams.
