Shannon was always on time, he had a thing about making sure that he was where he needed to be at the right time - no earlier or later than that. He figured his pickiness about his time of arrival to work came from his youth as he juggled school, assignments, his siblings, his mother and then part time jobs and weekends at the rodeos when they came into town. It meant long days, but he had that constant level of energy to fuel him. So it was unsurprising for him to wake up at five am, take the dog out and then get ready.
His uniform was nicely pressed, shoes polished, his minimal equipment that was his own tidy. He'd even made sure that Tobi's harness was clean and ready. It was a good thing that he'd worked in a few prior stations that he had some spare uniforms, all for their own respective need - parade, riding, K9 - all had a purpose. But it was introductions this time around, so he was just going in a tidy uniform and would have to see where his boss wanted him in the scale of things. He figured that that was the most appropriate way to do things, and if he had to go home and change, well he could do that too.
Breakfast was simple enough, peanut butter on toast and a white coffee to boot before he got Tobi ready and went down to his car with his companion in tow. Traffic on the way over was what he expected - mild before the main bustle to work and school for the normal people, though he did spot the odd kid waiting on buses to arrive. He arrived spot on time to the station, parking in available slot before getting out and taking the black Shepherd with him into the station without a second thought. He'd all but lived in one station before this where things had been wildly out of control with teenage crime, but he'd done his very best, having to utilize all of his skill sets to manage crowds and small scale riots. But even with that in mind, he didn't care if this one turned out to be just as crazy, he just wanted to help others.
He went to the front desk and informed the individual at the reception desk he was there to see the chief and deputy before he took a seat to wait, Tobi immediately sinking to lay down at his feet, those soft honey eyes watching his human for any signals.
nik was running late. it wasn't a normal occurrence but of course today was the day they were expecting a new officer and k9 and of course that was the day that nothing had gone right at home. alexis had woken up on the wrong side of the bed, brylee, normally an almost angel of a baby, had followed suit and started to play up while they'd been trying to feed her breakfast. so here he was, rushing into the office with his jacket in hand, porridge stains on his shoulder and a large coffee mug from home in his hand and he was sure he could feel his collar wasn't quite right. he just had to hope that the new officer could understand life with children, if not, he'd soon learn around this station. their job was important but their families came first.
as he walked into the waiting room his phone started to ring with the stations ringtone and he could only assume that they were calling to ask him where he was. he'd forgotten to ring to let them know he'd be late. it was a textbook case of what not do to this morning. it was then he spotted the officed and the dog in the waiting room and he breathed an almost sigh of relief. "are you waiting on me?" he asked as he dropped his jacket over the crook of his left arm and he held out his hand in greeting. "i'm nik. station chief." he said as he glanced down at the dog and he smiled. "sorry i'm late." he said before looking back at the officer. "shall we?" he said as he motioned to the officed behind the desk to open the door so they could go through into the station.
Brooke pulled his car into the station car park and into his designated spot, killing the engine by pulling out the keys. He was just coming off a night shift that had been uneventful until half an hour before it was ending. Someone had rang the station to report a stabbing but it turned out to be a false alarm. A bunch of of teenagers messing about after a night of drinking had made the call after a couple of them got into a fight. One had bust the others nose which was the cause of all the blood. Idiots. Stifling a yawn, he got out of his car and headed into the station.
He filled in and filed away the necessary paperwork for the call out then headed into the kitchen to make himself a coffee for the ride home before he clocked out. On his way past, he noticed a guy in uniform with a k9 at his feet. He racked his tired brain for a moment until he remembered nik mentioning something about a new hire in the dog unit. As he came out of the kitchen with his coffee, he saw Nik making his way over to the guy on the chair. "are you waiting on me? i'm nik. station chief." Brooke moved over as the introductions were being made and offered a friendly smile to the guy. "I'm Brook, deputy chief." He said, offering his hand as well.
Waiting was nothing to him. If he was honest, he would've been surprised if the station ran on time - no where he'd been had been exactly precise, but he didn't care much on that front. Life happened.
"Are you waiting on me?" he asked as he dropped his jacket over the crook of his left arm and he held out his hand in greeting. "I'm Nik. station chief." he said as he glanced down at the dog and he smiled. "Sorry I'm late." he said before looking back at the officer. "Shall we?"
Shannon looked up and smiled before he stood, shaking his hand in return, "Life gets in the way, it's fine. It's a pleasure to meet you sir, I'm Shannon."
He chuckled gently as another voice joined in - "I'm Brook, deputy chief."
He glanced down at his dog who was casually sniffing at Nik's shoe. He gently pulled on the lead and Tobi sat back, looking up innocently at him - "You can suss out the bosses later, ok?" Shannon smiled and shook his hand, "A pleasure sir. Oh, and this is Tobi. Couldn't bring Captain along with me - much too big to fit in the building," he joked, before nodding to Nik, "Of course, lead the way."
life did get in the way, that was for sure but nik wouldn't change a thing. his girls and faye were his life and he'd give up his job before he ever gave up them. that being said, he did love the job he had and he did his best to try and do his job well and be the best he could at home too but if he was going to fail at home, then his job would be the one he'd give up. it was just one of those things. "not so much life but two toddlers who wake up on the wrong side of the bed." he said with a chuckle as he shook the hand and he nodded. "great to meet you shannon." he nodded to brook as he saw him coming over to join them and he couldn't help but be glad to see his right hand man. it sure made the job easier having someone he could trust to handle things when he wasn't there.
he looked down as he felt the dog start to sniff his leg and he smiled a little. "he's welcome to suss us out when he'd like." he said with a grin. he loved dogs, really most animals and he was glad to have one in the station, even if was only going to be some of the time. "nice to meet you to tobi." he said as he looked down at the dog one last time before he looked back to his fellow officers. "well we'll just have to meet him another day." he said with a smile as he turned into his office and he took the moment to set his coffee down and fling his jacket over the back of his chair before he settled into it. "so i'll show you to your desk in a moment and i'll find some money in the budget to get some things for tobi to." he said as he rested his arms on the table lightly.
"Life gets in the way, it's fine. It's a pleasure to meet you sir, I'm Shannon." Brook filed the name away in his brain, making an effort to keep it memorised for the next time he would meet the new officer. His eyes moved to the black shepherd that was currently sniffing around his boss’s feet and a smile pulled the corner of his lips upwards. Damn did he miss his dog unit days. , "A pleasure sir. Oh, and this is Tobi. Couldn't bring Captain along with me - much too big to fit in the building, Of course, lead the way."His attention turned back to Shannon as his outstretched hand was accepted. ”Welcome to the team Shannon. .Hey Tobi” He greeted, unable to resist reaching down to give the dog a quick scratch behind the ear before they headed into the office. "well we'll just have to meet him another day." He had no idea who Captain was but he figured it was a horse given the size of the animal being mentioned. Brook moved with his coffee to one of the empty seats on the other side of Nik’s desk and sat down, taking a much needed sip. ”So where are you transferring from Shannon?” He asked curious to get to know his new colleague.
"Not so much life but two toddlers who wake up on the wrong side of the bed." he said with a chuckle as he shook the hand and he nodded. "Great to meet you Shannon."
”Welcome to the team Shannon. Hey Tobi.” He greeted, unable to resist reaching down to give the dog a quick scratch behind the ear before they headed into the office.
"Ah, I see. Well, they take priority," Shannon chuckled softly.
"He's welcome to suss us out when he'd like." he said with a grin. he loved dogs, really most animals and he was glad to have one in the station, even if was only going to be some of the time. "Nice to meet you to Tobi."
"Well we'll just have to meet him another day."
Shannon followed the men into an office and immediately got Tobi to lay down, and subconsciously fell into a slightly relaxed stance with his hands folded behind his back.
"So I'll show you to your desk in a moment and I'll find some money in the budget to get some things for Tobi to."
"You don't have to go doing that - if there is no need for him to work, he can enjoy an early retirement - just the same as Captain. It just felt fitting to bring my patrol partner along for the interview."
”So where are you transferring from Shannon?”
He looked over to Brook, not thinking to join the men in sitting down and nodded, "London Sir. I enjoyed my time there, I did - but I needed things to peeled back. I was working myself into the ground, doing other people's jobs."
He sighed, "There was a lot of... favors being pulled, and with also attending routine training in the army barracks, something had to give. I am not above hard work, I'll pull an all nighter if need be, I just couldn't meet my former station's requirements."
