“Tennessee, eh? Home of my favorite idol, Dolly Parton,” Calli grinned. “I've been to Nashville and Gattelenberg, but never saw much else.” She gingerly placed out a few more bracelets before wiping her hands on her apron. It was slow, so she could chat. Not like Alana would scold her.
“I understand! Life can be a cruel mistress. I'm from North Carolina. Grew up there but my parents decided to move out here a few years go. I'm still adjusting, to be honest, but good folks here. There are some places out in the holler if you look hard enough.” If anything, Calli was happy that Hickstead even had a good amount of nature and creeks. She and her classmates would run amuck on field trips for biology.
Calli was greeted by a twang of a voice she hadn’t heard in a long time. Even though she was from North Carolina – there were still plenty of folks with that accent. Or even a harsher version of it, with the Appalachians.
“Yeah, it’s pretty dope place to work,” Calli smiled, her earrings jingly as she moved about. “Awesome so far! Boss has some new stuff to be put out. It’s going to be hard to not pick out my favorites.” The employee discount was super hard not to use all the time. Calli thankfully had some self-control, but it wasn’t always promised. The discount did come in handy when birthdays and holidays were happening.
“What brings a southern belle like yourself around these parts? Shopping for anything in particular?”
Calliope was looking forward to being able to work more with Alana. There was something about throwing clay on the wheel and creating something out of it. Even if Calli didn’t go to her private school, she would still have made the trek out to the studio. The young teen was lucky that Alana even gave her a chance at all. While the owner wasn’t known to be mean or evil, it was just nerves. Calli, while confident in certain things – asking for a job from her dream place was rough.
Today, she was tasked with helping Alana display some seaglass jewelry and a few summer and spring products. Alana was busy in the back, glazing and firing with Calli in the front. Some lo-fi music played throughout the storefront as Calli began draping some sea glass bracelets on the velvet stands.
It didn’t take long for the chime of the front door to go off. “Hi, welcome to Avalon Gallery!”
“I think I do? If not, I can definitely see if they're public or not. We should have a few mutuals so if they are private, I can definitely weasel myself in.” Calli took out her phone and opened the app, and began typing in the sister that would definitely have a public page, Piper.
“They're all college dudes, so I guess they're men. I don't know how Alana doesn't flirt with them.” In reality, Cali knew why. Her boss had a long term boyfriend, who owned one of the local clothing stores. But it made Cali wonder if she could teach a pottery class. Do that classic Patrick Swayze scene. “Girl wise? I think a good chunk of them are cute. Like you! But I think a few of them have a big stick in their ass,” Cali snickered.
She returned to her phone and realized she had indeed followed Piper. When, she didn't know. “I follow Piper. She mostly posts stuff about costumes but I can see if Ronan and Sabrina are on the gram.”
Cali didn’t know what she was looking for just yet. There were a lot of options for costumes, but she wasn’t exactly the type to wear something revealing or flashy. Even if she snuck out and changed. But she still wanted to look good. Maybe something cliché or something she threw together?
She was left to her own devices, as she was quite independent. Her parents were off doing their shopping, and her siblings were off at work. Cali had opted to go into one of those pound bag shops, but it was closed. But there was a costume shop across the street. I might as well give it a go.
Cali was in the process of looking at some prepacked, cheap-looking outfit when someone approached her. She didn’t know if she wanted to run or fight. It was her instinct to be fearful, as men who randomly approached girls was...odd. Thankfully, an employee seemed to think the same thing – and kept a close distance. “Uh, well…I don’t know for men. But no one ever says no to all black?” She didn’t know. Despite her appearance and age, Cali didn’t do all the trend stuff.
Cali nodded along with her friend’s words. “I’m convinced my teacher is wondering if I’ll ever pick up the pace! But they’re getting my money, so they can’t be too mad.” Some people may call Cali a waste of space and time, but everything is about money nowadays. For the most part, it was her own money paying for her lessons. Cali didn’t come from a wealthy family by any means. Her brain and her work ethic got her where she was.
“Oh, yeah! I hear the forest and the waterfall are pretty this time of year.” Granted, the color changes in leaves were nowhere near the beauty of Vermont – a state she had visited many moons ago. Cali watched as her friend mulled over her question, and her reaction seemed to make her wonder if the question was hurtful. But Brooklyn answered her.
“That is true! We don’t know what they don’t let us know. You know me, I am far too invested in finding information.” Cali, like most girls – was a great internet sleuth. She liked backtracking and all that, something her brother insisted she stop. But he couldn’t complain too much when her abilities helped him locate the dresser that their mom desired from a thrift store.
“Ugh, I wish there was something in my love life,” Cali snorted, twirling a finger in some loose hair. “There are some cute guys that come through at work. But they’re all way too old. Why do people our age have to look so..blegh? Like…that patchy so-called beard ain’t it!”
Calli couldn’t help but smile when it was her older brother. Is work ethic made him not around as much, which sucked. But she was always happy when he was around. Granted that she was the one that did all the talking usually. Though, she had been meaning to ask him about this certain lady friend of his. Someone that she had seen him talking to a few times.
“Just a minute.” The teen sent a quick text to her friends saying she would be AFK for a bit but would text them or chat in memes and gifs when she had the moment. Calli slipped on her fuzzy Crocs and opened her door. “Surprised you’re home. I thought you were busy trying to find silly stuff to work on.”
Calli couldn’t help but grin when Brooklyn commented on her masterful skills. “Bah, it’s mainly because I’m sure if I went any slower, my brother and dad would be all up in arms.” While they were never hounding her to go faster or anything, they taught her more efficient ways to get things done. Of course, her father was a firm believer in purposely slowing things down if the pay was by the hour. Or if a client was giving you a hard time. Her brother, on the other hand, was too much of a workaholic.
“Hey! That’s a good thing, right? Just means that the coaches think you’re ready for the next hardest thing.” Calli herself wasn’t that ambitious. Unlike her friends, she wasn’t going out and competing. At least, fully. Calli was looking forward to a jumping event in the spring. But she couldn’t put in the work or time yet. Which is why she was leasing a horse.
“They did. We had a small trip up, but I fucked up my special awareness for a moment,” she laughed. Calli returned her eyes to Ronan, Brooklyn’s little crush. Or maybe it was a major crush. “Have you figured out if he’s actually serious with whatever her name is?” Calli prodded.

Other Is one of Calli's friends from Willow Brooke Academy. Out of the friend group, he is the most like Calli. He somehow managed to squeak his way into the school with a full ride. Despite being just as smart, he's very lazy and thrives on pushing things to the last minute. This on occasion has caused him to butt heads with any of the people he does group school work with. The only time he isn't lazy or sluggish is when he's with the gang.

Lips pursed on the straw of her water jug. Calli was a bit of a sweaty mess with how much she had shoveled straw today. But she enjoyed it, despite the complaining of some of her friends. She didn’t have to help clean their stalls, but she did. Calli enjoyed it, despite what she came off as. Even though she didn’t have a lesson today, she still came out and did some drills.
Since she had finished cleaning up a bit faster than her friends, Calli found a nice patch of grass and sat down – staring at the blue sky that would be dark in a few hours. As she took another sip of water – Callie’s eyes landed on Ronan Slade. She could tell why Brooklyn found him cute. Maybe it was all the silly movies she had been watching lately, but what would he look like if she was shirtless? Honestly, there were a few people Callie wondered who looked shirtless.
Callie was lost in her brain space until she felt another body sit next to her. Her eyes looked over. “Took you long enough, Brookie,” she smiled. “How was your lesson today? Who did you have again?”
Calli let a yawn out of her mouth. She was surprisingly home for Saturday evening. She had a heavy lesson this AM and spent a lot of time with the Saddle Club. Thankfully, she was able to get a ride home from her friend – so her mom wasn’t annoyingly texting her phone to hurry up. Even though her mom had nothing else going on, that wasn’t her gardening club meeting – which had already happened.
Her parents were downstairs, chatting about their work. While Calli loved both of what they did, there were times when Callie couldn’t stand listening to them talking about it. It was one thing to hear about it, then do it. She loved her parents, but man – could they drag on. Especially, if Dad had a beer in his hand.
She sat in her bedroom, the door closed – obviously. Her fingers typed away on her laptop – messaging her friends that she had just seen a few hours ago. As she responded to Brooklyn’s question about what she was doing on Halloween – Calli heard someone knock on her door. “Who is it?” she called out.
full name • Calliope Elizabeth Talbot nicknames • Callie, Beth age • sixteen birthday • April 24, 2007 occupation • rider, student gender • female sexuality • questioning
the appearance
face claim• Madison Bailey
identifying features• Callie is what someone would call a modern-day flower child. She’s often in many different kinds of jewelry, wild hair, and macramé crop tops. Callie stands taller than average at 5’-9” but can appear relatively short next to a few of her friends. She has a muscular build from the farm work she did when she was younger and partially continues when she’s able.
Being from a state with a heavy beach life, Callie always appears to have the perfect sun-kissed streaks of blonde, with an everlasting glow. This has since been a bit muted from being in England, but it can still shine during the summer months. Also, the girl really loves her bronzer.
the personality
likes •physical work, fishing, gardening, surfing, macrame, metal smithing, stained glass, bit of an adrenaline rush, horses dislikes • dressage (feels too fancy for her tastes – even though she attends a private school), not knowing where her food is coming from, black coffee, losing a catch strengths • jack of all trades in aspects of art, metal smithing, deep water fishing, crochet weaknesses • her family, her friends, jewelry, ponies dreams • afford her own horse, work with a local artisan, sell some of her handmade items fears • being abandoned overall personality • Callie is an interesting mix of boho chic and horse girl. She can be all about the vibes but knows when hard work and physical labor are needed. An excellent student, Callie takes full advantage of her smarts – especially when it comes to gaining scholarships and awards. Despite her smarts, her appearance can give off flighty – but she can use this to her advantage. Especially when it comes to cute boys or girls.
Family-oriented, Callie loves her siblings and parents. She can sometimes get a bit jealous of her older siblings when they’re out on their own with their own crew. Mainly because they have the option to and don’t need to rely on mom or dad for rides to get to and from.
She can be fiercely independent, often wanting to try and solve her problems first. At least, until her parents must involve themselves, or she must admit defeat. And most teenagers hate admitting defeat.
the history
father • Clyde Talbot, 55, fisherman mother • Naomi Talbot, 53, gardener. siblings • CASPER MILO TALBOT , 30 - brother Leoni, 24 - sister important people • BROOKLYN LUNA HAZELTON and the Saddle Club - BFFs MOLLY ELODIE MAC'INTOSH - classmate @boyd - sk8 buddy, forming crush ZAYN ATLAS BLAKE - sk8 buddy hometown • Born and Raised Riegelwood, North Carolina → Hickstead, UK overall history • Callie was born in Riegelwood North Carolina and adopted at birth by the Talbot family. She doesn’t know too much about her birth parents, other than her mother was forced to carry and opted to adopt after birth. Thankfully, the Talbots made Callie aware of her background - but she never felt any less than.
She grew up in a stable home, with two much older siblings – making it hard for her to connect with them. But they always humored her, playing with her when they were interested or had the time. Due to her family coming from a blue-collar background, Callie grew up knowing the labors of a working family. While her mother was tending the garden, Callie was always there. Sometimes it is more of a menace than any help.
During the hot and humid North Carolina summers, Callie would be out on the boat – riding the Atlantic. Her father’s favorite, albeit near heart attack moment, was when they were out on a pier. Callie landed quite a catch on her rod and was nearly pulled over the railing of the pier. Mom managed to get it all on VHS. A scary moment at the time, but a laughing memory as she grew up.
Sadly, in 2016, when Callie was 9 – tragedy struck. Hurricane Matthew made his warpath, destroying the North Carolina coast. Taking the Talbot family farm and the matriarch and patriarch. It left the family, amongst others, devastated over the loss. Finding that they had nothing left of their home, the Talbots left North Carolina in 2017. They were invited along to England with their neighbors, who had family overseas.
Everyone appeared to be fine with the move, except Callie – since North Carolina was her home. She had her friends and her art community. Her family settled in Hickstead, quite easily – but Callie became a bit rebellious. Running away, only to have her older siblings drag her home. In her rebellious years, she made quick friends with the neighbor’s daughter. A tomboy who loved pushing boundaries as well.
Through her new friend, Callie found horses – making her not as rebellious. While there were times that Callie still pushed her parents’ buttons – the young girl got herself together enough to get a full ride to Willow Brooke Academy. That advancement seemed to keep her parents at bay, to the point where they agreed to cover lessons at Seven Oaks Barn. While they still found Callie’s interests an odd mix of interests, she wasn’t running away.
She’s made a solid group of friends at Seven Oaks, forming the Saddle Club. While Callie is nowhere near the level of her friends, she’s enjoying herself and the shenanigans they can get into. If anything, she’s out of the house more than at home – something that her mother worries about constantly. But Callie is living her life as much as possible and even decided to return to using her Girl Swirl Cruiser.
