Calliope was looking forward to being able to work more with Alana. There was something about throwing clay on the wheel and creating something out of it. Even if Calli didn’t go to her private school, she would still have made the trek out to the studio. The young teen was lucky that Alana even gave her a chance at all. While the owner wasn’t known to be mean or evil, it was just nerves. Calli, while confident in certain things – asking for a job from her dream place was rough.
Today, she was tasked with helping Alana display some seaglass jewelry and a few summer and spring products. Alana was busy in the back, glazing and firing with Calli in the front. Some lo-fi music played throughout the storefront as Calli began draping some sea glass bracelets on the velvet stands.
It didn’t take long for the chime of the front door to go off. “Hi, welcome to Avalon Gallery!”
Emma finished up her opening shift at the tack & feed store. She loved her job there but she especially loved days she opened or closed because it gave her more time to explore out in the world. Once she’d explored the sights and whatnot she would buy herself a new horse take that time and put it towards riding. She couldn’t ship her horses from home. I mean, she could, but it would take a lot more than she was willing to spend and she didn’t want to put her horses through that if she could help it. She knew they were in good hands staying in their own home at her grandparents’ ranch and she’d go back to visit soon enough.
Today, Emma had taken a drive into Willow Bridge. She’d driven through it a few times since moving but hadn’t done much exploring just yet. Today would be the first time she stepped foot into the city, on actual foot. She took a peek into Avalon before entering. It looked really impressive. She had no serious talent for the visual arts, but she definitely appreciated it and loved places like this because it usually meant a uniqueness to everything inside. As she stepped inside, she smiled at the store clerk “Hi, welcome to Avalon Gallery!” Emma responded warmly. “Well hi there, gorgeous! Dang this place is neat. How’s your day going?”
Calli was greeted by a twang of a voice she hadn’t heard in a long time. Even though she was from North Carolina – there were still plenty of folks with that accent. Or even a harsher version of it, with the Appalachians.
“Yeah, it’s pretty dope place to work,” Calli smiled, her earrings jingly as she moved about. “Awesome so far! Boss has some new stuff to be put out. It’s going to be hard to not pick out my favorites.” The employee discount was super hard not to use all the time. Calli thankfully had some self-control, but it wasn’t always promised. The discount did come in handy when birthdays and holidays were happening.
“What brings a southern belle like yourself around these parts? Shopping for anything in particular?”
Emma already felt a good vibe from this one. She had a pretty smile and seemed fairly positive - Emma loved it and she decided right then and there she was going to get to know this girl.
“Oh goodness, I bet! Everything is so pretty, I’d just go broke. I’d have to get a second job just to pay for my first.” Emma giggled and twirled around the items, admiring how much work and love had gone into everything.
“Yeah… I guess my twang gives it away pretty easily, huh? Guess I can’t hide that. I’m from Tennessee, in the ole U. S. of A. But, see, I had, um.. Life… happen, and decided that I wanted to get a fresh start, go on an adventure, pave my own path in the world. Ya know, do the dang thing! So, I packed up a few things and, well, here I am, in the flesh,” Emma gestured dramatically to herself before she leaned in towards the girl and whispered dramatically as well, as if she was in an old black and white mystery movie. “Though, I did notice you don’t sound like you’re from here originally… am I right?”
