"There's no time limit on it," She smiled at the brunette. "True. . just wish Connor hadn't ruined me. .maybe I'd be more interested in settling down if he hadn't." She grumbled bitterly. She hadn't seen her abusive ex in years but he was still ruining her life. Zoe took another scoop of ice cream from the tub and popped the spoon into her mouth, enjoying the rush of sugar. "Yeah you're right, I guess I am jumping the gun a fair bit. He might be a complete asshole." She snorted and tilted her head in agreement. "Very true. Most men are. . but just enjoy the free drinks or dinner and see if anything happens." She encouraged. At least one of them needed to be wined & dined soon and Zoe had no suitors waiting in the wings so it had to be Adalia.

"Some people really go by the word shotgun, it's kind of scary I think. I can't imagine getting married to someone so fast." Zoe refrained from pulling a face whilst nodding. She couldn't imagine marrying anyone, let alone marrying someone after three months. "Maybe you'll have to become one of those progressive people that lives in a three? That way you can have one of each?" She let out a laugh and half shrugged her shoulder, contemplating it for a moment. "Hey I'll try anything once." She didn't know how she felt about the idea of sharing. "I was going to say, I'd be behind the times if 3 months was the relationship time. Anyone catching either of your eyes though?" Zoe took another sip of her wine as she turned her head towards Cassie. "There's a hot girl at the boxing gym who's been giving me pointers. . but I think she's straight. . so no, not at the moment." She conceded. She'd gone after too many straight girls in her time and it wasn't worth the heartache.
"Ah so that's what's been keeping you so busy." "How do you keep track of everyone on that app anyway?" She snorted and shook her head. "Not that busy. .all of the matches are in one place so it's pretty easy to use." She explained to the blonde. "Do you take lessons around here? And do they do self defense classes too?""Yeah, just at the main gym in town. .I'm not sure if they do self defence classes though." She hadn't seen anything advertised but she didn't doubt there would be someone in the gym who could help if she was actually interested. While the others divulged into horse talk, Zoe grabbed herself a slice of crusty bread, buttering one side before taking a bite. "Did either of you want more wine or something else to drink?" She noted her almost empty wine glass and smiled. "I wouldn't say no to more wine."
"I think you should be able to for someone like me - I'm worth every penny." Zoe smirked and rolled her eyes. ”Fine, I’ll rephrase, I’m not spending all that money to be turned down.” She teased. "I must have missed the memo on the three month rule. Do people really get engaged that quickly?" Zoe smiled and shook he her head ”No it’s the 3 month salary on a ring rule some men go by” She explained. "Unfortunately, I don't have the attraction to marry a woman - I like what a man has to offer too much... well, the appendage attached to them anyway." Zoe let out a snicker and side eyed Adalia. ”That’s why I like both. .much more fun.” She grinned back. "I have heard of that happening, though I think it was done in a joking manner. Looks like you better sign up for Tinder, Zoe." She laughed and patted the phone in her pocket. ”Oh I’m on them all already, don’t worry.”
Zoe sipped a little more of her wine while Cassie brought out more food, eyeing it eagerly. "Honestly I think that'd be more likely to make it worse! I've got it." She smiled and shrugged her shoulders. ”Alright.” She said, having only been joking anyway. She wasn’t a violent person but she did have a temper she wasn’t afraid to use if needed. "Did you recently start boxing? And what made you start?" She tore off a piece of bread and nodded. ”Yes! I’ve always wanted to be able to defend myself after a pretty bad relationship and finally got round to doing it.” She said, trying not to grimace at the mention of her ex. Whilst the two began to talk about the barn, Zoe sat on one of the chairs and dug back into the picky bits of food.
"It's a sensible thing to do," She grinned a little. ”In all aspects of life.” They didn’t offer free trials for nothing. "I think it would be nice, just to meet that right someone, and have them there with you..." She took another spoonful of ice cream whilst thinking over her friend’s words. ”True. . maybe in a few years.” She said, not in the headspace to settle down at the moment. "Yeah it's true, it's just a scary thought, that whole possibility of getting hurt." She smiled and nodded in understanding. ”It’s scary but you’ve gotta put yourself out there sometimes. .maybe try one date with the guy and see how it goes?”

"There's nothing wrong with that either," She smirked, mostly to herself. ”Try before you buy kinda thing.” Only trying multiple things while taking her sweet time before buying anything. . "Maybe one day, one will be good enough to wiggle their way in past your defenses. Defeat them all." She let out a small laugh and shrugged. ”Maybe. . stranger things have happened. . could be nice.” She wasn’t against settling down eventually. If the right person came along she wouldn’t say no. "No, I don't think Aaron's ready for anything, but if nothing else I think he'd be a good friend. Mal... I guess I'll have to see. Maybe I shouldn't judge a book by it's ridiculously good looking cover." She listened to Adalia’s boy trouble and smiled a little. ”Well you’ll only know if you try.”

"Well, you just don't have a big enough ring. I've told you before." She smirked and shrugged her shoulders playfully. ”Hey, I’m a bartender and self-employed, you think I can afford the stupid 3 month rule for a ring?” She grinned. “Wait, did you seriously ask her to marry you?” She let out a soft laugh and shook her head. ”Nah, I just said to marry me if we’re both still single at 40 but she said no.” She said, side eyeing Adalia jokingly. "Yeah me too, you can't leave us on that and not expect us to need to taste test.. I can bring the cake out first if we do want to start with that first. Though I did make baked brie if we wanted that next.” She glanced longingly at the food and had a mental brain freeze while she tried to decide. ”I can’t choose, I’ll eat anything next.” When it came to food, Zoe wasn’t picky and she really would eat anything. . “Darn, I definitely thought the bar would be full of gossip. Especially since people love to drink their faces off in the summer.” She smiled, shaking her head once more. ”It usually is! I’m surprised there hasn’t been any myself.” She took another sip of wine while the conversations continued. "They just seem a bit..standoffish, and there's always tension. It's hard to feel very harmonious, I almost had someone bite my head off the other day because I touched their tack. I was only moving it to get to my own." She frowned a little, her protective side naturally coming out at the sound of someone being horrible to her friend. ”I’ll come down and kick their ass if you need me to? I’ve been having boxing lessons” She grinned mischievously . She looked back to Cassie as she spoke about the fire and her brunette hair bounced slightly as she gave a nod of her head. ”well that’s a relief at least.”
"What about me? Am I not good wife material?" Zoe looked at the other brunette and snorted at the look of offence on her face. ”Well you keep turning me down every time I propose to you, so no.” She joked back with a grin. “Ha, you’ll have to stand in line after my boyfriend.” She laughed and snapped her fingers ”Damn. .” Marriage was at the bottom of the list of things she wanted to do in life. “I made a German chocolate cake with buttercream icing and I used shredded coconut on top.” She almost drooled at the sound of the cake the blonde had made. ”Okay, now I want desert for starters” Nothing would beat a good piece of chocolate cake with ice cream on the side.
"And here I was thinking you'd have the best gossip, I don't right now, though I do feel that some of the new liveries at Blue Acres seem to be a little up themselves, did you two get that impression?" She shrugged her shoulders with a laugh as she reached for a piece of cucumber ”The bar has been unusually ungossip worthy this week and my photography clients are mostly harmless.” With so many co-workers at the club there was usually a decent amount of drama but it had been a quiet week. ”I’ve only been there once to shoot a horse and their owner seemed lovely. .why what are these new people like?” She asked, already invested in the possibility of drama. “Definitely. I teach Western basics at Blue Acres and I would have thought the fire would bring people together…but now I’m not so sure.” She frowned slightly at the mention of the fire, having only heard bits about it through the two women and town gossip. ”I forgot about the fire. . how is it over there now?”
"Good, I'm glad - though you definitely need to get yourself out there, anyone would be lucky to get even a shot!" She laughed and rolled her eyes playfully. "I'm a commitment phobe. . I like getting myself out there with different people." She said with a sly grin. Ever since she'd escaped from the toxicity of her ex, she had shied away from any type of relationship. After five years she thought she would have been over it by now but it had done a number on her and when things were starting to go to well when seeing somebody, she always self sabotaged and ran in the opposite direction. One night stands and flings were easy. She didn't have to worry about catching feelings for somebody.
"Down girl," She snorted and picked up her wine to take a sip while Adalia dug back into the ice cream. She loved the way Adalia took her flirty banter, she knew she was always joking and didn't take it to heart like some of her other straight friends had in the past. "Well, I danced with a guy called Aaron? He seemed sweet, though I think he's still hung up on his ex. He might pop round some time... and then there was Mal, He had the chat, you know, and damn is he pretty to look at. It surely can't be real though, being as hot as he is and nice, there must be a catch?" She listened as her bestie spilled the girl chat, smiling at the sight of her friend's grin. "Ah being hung up on an ex is a no go. . and I can't give great advice on the hot ones. . they're usually trouble but I love them." She sighed softly.

Zoe couldn't help but feel for the girl as she saw her body trembling in fear. She'd felt that type of fear before and it was fucking awful. She couldn't hide the empathetic look that grew on her face at the sight of the girl's tears. "Oh babe. . you're okay now. I promise he's long gone." She said, touching the girl's arm in an attempt to comfort her. "i don't think so." She nodded, relieved she had intervened in time before the guy had been able to do any physical damage. He'd already done a number on the girl mentally. "thank you." She got a proper look at the girl as she looked up and she felt for her. She seemed young. "No need to thank me, just glad I came in at the right time. .us girls have to look out for each other." She smiled softly. "How about a hot drink at my place while we wait for the police?"

Zoe held the bag on her shoulder close to her as she walked through town towards the flats. She was on her way home from a shift at the bar and her ride had unfortunately had to take off earlier than expected which left her having to walk home alone. Taxi's were slim in this town and by the time she had finished her shift, it had been the middle of the night and they were all fully booked taking people home or out into the city. The walk wasn't far, she just didn't like doing it alone in the dark. She wasn't scared but there had been a few incidents with drunken patrons causing fights outside and some men liked to get handsy after they'd had a few drinks. She'd already been through that chapter of her life and she wasn't going back there, ever.
As she reached the flats, she walked to the entrance, unlocked the main door and headed inside; frowning when she heard a scream. "he's behind me!" Her frown deepened and she rounded the corner quickly to reach the stairs where she saw a girl on the floor and someone in a balaclava standing near to her. "Oi! Get away from her! I've already called the police and they're on their way!" She yelled, reaching for the defence spray in her bag. She jumped back as the person charged forward, spraying him with the red dye as he barrelled past her. She was glad guns were illegal in this country but she half wished pepper spray would be allowed. Identifier spray wouldn't hurt them and it only worked if you managed to get contact with their skin. Zoe kept her eyes on the doorway for a few more seconds to make sure the guy had actually left before she turned to the girl on the floor. "Are you hurt?" She asked, crouching down next to her.

"Absolutely, we are wifey material!" She let out a laugh and held her drink up to cheers to that. Anyone would be lucky to have them. "I didn't mean it like that exactly, not just in the bedroom but... I don't know, a guy that just agrees with you all the time, and doesn't know how to banter or tease, I don't know. Nice guys just seem to lack personality sometimes." She snorted and shrugged her shoulders with grin. ”Oh I completely agree, I could never date someone who couldn’t banter with me. “ It was vital to a healthy relationship. A relationship without banter would just be plain boring and she hated boring. "Maybe not, but I'm yet to find the proof of that." She lifted her wine glass to her lips and took a long sip before smiling ”Well hopefully Mr Right will come knocking soon enough.”

"You deserve the world, when you find that person who'll give it to you make sure you let me vet them first. I'll put them through the wringer before they even get to you," She looked at the brunette with a grin and put a hand to her chest. ”Aw babe, , same to you too. We are wifey material and deserve the best. . and you best believe I’ll be grilling your future bae.” She’d be putting her new boxing skills to good use if they turned out to be an asshole too. Nobody got away with hurting her friends. "Sweet is nice, but sometimes... I don't know, is it bad if I say that I need a bit more than that? I need a little something... an edge maybe? A nice guy is great but will he put you up against the wall?" She let out a small snort and half-shrugged in agreement. ”I mean I need some spice in the bedroom too so I get you.” Boring in the bedroom was never a fun time. "The catch is I'm not into girls - so yes, there is always a catch!" She smirked and rolled her eyes. ”I know you’re not. . I meant there’s not always a catch with nice people. . “

"Good, I'm glad - though you definitely need to get yourself out there, anyone would be lucky to get even a shot!" Zoe laughed and shook her head ”Oh I know I’m a catch. . me and relationships just don’t mix lately. . jackass has ruined that for me. . but we’ll see how things go in the future. . never know prince/princess charming might be round the corner” She said with a grin. "Down girl," She flashed her a smirk as she picked up her wine, taking a sip before returning indulging in the ice cream between them. . "Well, I danced with a guy called Aaron? He seemed sweet, though I think he's still hung up on his ex. He might pop round some time... and then there was Mal, He had the chat, you know, and damn is he pretty to look at." Zoe ate a few more spoonful’s as she listened to Adalia, smiling when she grinned. ”Sweet could be nice? And if nothing comes of it, he sounds like he’d be a good friend regardless. Ah you’ve gotta watch out for the boys with the chat, they’ll chat you straight into bed” She joked. It surely can't be real though, being as hot as he is and nice, there must be a catch? She shrugged, giving her grin ”Hey, I’m hot and nice and there’s no catch with me.”

"and did the team manage to bond?" She smirked and rolls her eyes ”We did actually, it was fun.” She didn’t mind spending her time with her work colleagues, most of them had become her friend now which was nice. Her own photography work could be lonely so it was good to have a balance with the bar work. "I don't think you could handle me.” She snorted and lifted a brow ”Well that sounds like a challenge” She joked back. She dug into the ice cream while she waited for Adalia to spill the beans on her love life. "Hmmm...well...I guess...kind of?" She sat up and quirked a brow ”Okay spill the tea!”
