Nat let out a yawn. Even though it was still early afternoon, she hadn’t slept too well due to Baby Cakes having a bit of a health scare. The tegu was getting up in age, and while Nat knew her time was near. She still wanted to deny that her scaly friend could pass soon. Baby Cakes was already pushing near ten, which was average.
Thankfully, Nat would have her mind changed and challenged a bit today with her clinical. The young woman would be helping Dr. James today with a few of the smaller critters. Her original day was supposed to help Gwyn and another vet with surgery, but schedules were shifted - so that bummed her out. Nat was hoping she would be in another surgery soon since it was quite fun. Stressful, but fun.
Since she was early, Nat took a seat in the break room – a large, iced coffee in hand. She was also given permission to eat some of the muffins, and no one needed to twist her arm. So, Nat took a pistachio muffin – taking a big bite as she waited for Dr. James to get her.
Ila was just getting back from an early morning call, it seemed when the weather changed the animals became more prone to accidents. Pulling into a parking spot she grabbed her coffee and headed back into the clinic, trading boots for her sneakers, she reput her hair up on a messy bun and headed to her desk to set her cup down and look over the files that were on her desk for her up coming patients. Ila was informed that the Intern that would be helping her today was here and waiting. Ila smiled she knew schedules had been shifted so she was sure that Natalie was a little bummed because she wouldn’t be helping in surgery but she tended to keep this day fun and relaxed and what better way then to get to snuggle ten adorable lab puppies who were coming in for their first set of shots, followed by some kittens as the next set of patients. Ila walked into the brake room and gave a smile, “good morning you must be Natalie I’m Dr. James but just call me Ila, are you ready to get started? Our first appointment is ten adorable lab puppies.” Ila gave a smile and shifted the file in her hand waiting for Natalie.
Natalie had just finished half of her muffin, with her final bite in her mouth when the vet came in. Shit, how embarrassing. She swigged the bite with a si of coffee and wiped her mouth when everything was swallowed. “Yes, that’s me. A pleasure to meet you.” Natalie didn’t know if she could call Dr. James by her first name quite yet, but she was given permission so maybe it wasn’t that bad.
“Ah, nice. Lead the way!” Nat wouldn’t admit that she would rather hold a snake in her hands right now. But unfortunately, not everyone loved the exotics like she did. It made her wonder if Hickstead had any kind of place for her,
Ila smiled as she waited for Natalie to finish up and clean up her mess. So far Ila liked the younger women, she seemed very polite however she couldn’t help but get a sense that she wasn’t to terrible excited to go play with puppies. She started walking down the hall to exam room one which she gave a soft knock before cautiously opening the door. She didn’t need ten loose labs running around in the clinic, not that anyone would mind but still. With the door securely closed behind them, she set the file down and bent down to start loving on each puppy. “im Dr. James this is Natalie she will be helping me today, I understand these little guys and gals are due for their first round of shots, we will also weigh each one, check vitals and all the good stuff we want to make sure they are healthy and developing correctly. The owner nodded with a smile, Ila scooped one of the puppies up a little cream colored boy and started by getting a weight before feeling all along his body. “Well Natalie what do you say about listening to this little guys heart and lungs, also taking his temperature?” She looked to Natalie and waited.
