Auggie was a bit nervous. Not that he was in trouble or anything, but he had something planned for Ora, him, and Izzy. Despite Ora claiming she didn’t talk in her various nap locations, she always managed to sneak in something about Brazil. Auggie, being the loving husband who was extremely obsessed with his wife – laid out a plan. He didn’t purchase anything, mainly because Ora would run him over first. But the idea was there. His business had been booming, and Auggie had been saving a lot in his secret, travel fund.
He woke up to see the space next to him still filled with Ora’s body. Her brown hair was a mess from her moving around. She was the only woman that was allowed to accidentally elbow him in the face. It was still early, and Auggie was off for the day. He turned onto his left side and rested his hand on her hip.
Auggie nestled his face in her hair, taking in her conditioner. He always envied it, maybe because he wasn’t allowed to touch her specialty beauty supplies. At least he wasn’t a 3-in-1. Auggie moved his hand and arm to under his wife’s chest – tempted to touch more, but it was the weekend. He wasn’t about to awaken the wrath of Ora by waking her up earlier than she anticipated.
He lay awake but wasn’t the type to lay about too much. Maybe because he was used to the early mornings. Auggie placed a kiss on Ora’s head before turning over and sitting up. He ran a hand through his hair before moving to get out of bed. But his movement was cut short by a tight grip. She had awakened.
“Sorry, my love, I didn’t mean to wake you,” he whispered apologetically.
Sleep was a funny thing - how the last thing Ora remembers always is her eyes fluttering asleep and then darkness falls until the morning, when something eventually lulls her out of it. It was funny how something so natural could also feel so empty, like the ocean or space. Today was no different, other than what was lulling her out of sleep was none other than her husband. The shifting of weight, the soft gentle kiss against her forehead, before more shifting of weight. Dark brown eyes fluttered open, only to catch Auggie Flores sitting up and tussling his hair.
Damnit. He was so sexy and distracting. Ora took this time to admire him while he wasn't aware of her watchful eyes. Her gaze moved from his messy hair to the contours of his face before moving down to his (and in her opinion) chiseled body. It was always so maddening to her that Auggie had been a single man when they had met, that somehow he had never found love. Not that she was complaining, Ora had snatched him right up and never looked back. He was her everything, just like she was his. Yes, they had their fights, but they always came back to love. Because love conquered everything else.
The shifting of his weight distracted her from her thoughts now. Was it just her or was he moving? He was. And just like how her father had taught her, Ora's hand struck out fast - like a viper attacking its prey - as her hand clamped down on his forearm. Her grip powerful and tight. Who says a woman can't be strong? Her dark gaze locked in on the back of his head before it turned, his own gaze meeting her now, "Sorry, my love, I didn’t mean to wake you.” That husky voice wouldn't get him out of trouble, Ora decided now, she wanted answers, "Meu Amor," she murmured now, trying to dispel the grogginess from her voice, "Where exactly are you going?" The woman knew that Auggie was an early riser, but it was the weekend, was it not? And Izzy didn't need them in the mornings, "I require you to still keep this bed warm."
If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane.
There it was the slight demand. But it was one of the quirks that Auggie love about his wife. She knew what she wanted, and always voiced it that way. It was never in a pushing way, Auggie just had to listen properly. It made the holidays easy, as Auggie always wrote down what his wife needed to be done. It was one of the reasons why they now had a magnetic knife holder, and she had a new leather key chain. You know, the small things.
Despite the need to make coffee for the house, Auggie climbed back into bed. Even though Izzy was an adult now, there was still the need to make her life comfortable – especially since she was still at home. It didn’t stop her from independence, but he still liked to care for her and his wife. Everything he did, all the extra hours – was there to help support his family to live comfortably.
“Chilled, were you?” he asked, pulling her into him, his chest greeting her cheek. “You know I have to make coffee my specific way.” It wasn’t specific, he just liked doing it. Made their mornings easier. Ora knew her way around the kitchen, but there were times he wondered if she liked drinking…sludge.
He took her scent in again, making his grip tighten around her. “Did the kiddos last night behave?” Auggie remembered that she wasn’t happy per se about chaperoning children, but if there was anyone there to keep people in line, it was Ora.
Ora watched through hooded eyes as her husband debated, or at least, pretended to debate living the bed, before giving into her demands to remain. Easy as pie. The woman adjusted herself as Auggie pulled her into his chest now, arms wrapped around her and Ora happily nestled into him. No matter how many year she had been living in Hickstead, she always used winter as the time to demand extra cuddles and time in bed, "Blankets are never quite as good as you as keeping me warm during these harsh England weathers, Auggie," Ora purred, "You're like a furnace that radiates me with love." Or well, just body heat, and she was a scaly cold blooded lizard, but the woman preferred the romantic angle.
She wasn't surprised when the coffee excuse came up. It was true, Auggie was king of the coffee in their household. Ora wasn't sure what he did - maybe add a few sprinkles of cinnamon, but somehow it was the one thing in the kitchen she could not prefect. Rather than argue about coffee though, Ora picked a different argument, "I know," the woman crooned, "But I have not heard another rustle in this house yet, so I do not believe our daughter is awake yet." There was a small possibility that Izzy might not even be home, sometimes she woke up early for the barn or work. Maybe she had a secret lover and was sleeping over at the University. The possibilities were endless. Although, if the latter were going on and she hadn't been home, Ora was certain Auggie would have said something.
At the question about the dance, she groaned a little bit, "I caught a few trying to sneak off. They may not have had me since Pre-K, but they should know better than to think they can outwit Ora Oliveira Flores." As his grip tighten around her, dark brown eyes looked up at him and she brought her hand up, gently grazing his jaw before holding it so she could adjust and kiss him. Her lips brushing against his, more warmth filled her up before breaking it, "Coming home to you though is always the best reward for any after hours school function though," even if he had been asleep, "Did you and Izzy have a good father-daughter evening?"
If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane.
He chuckled. “Yeah, I’m sure she’ll be leaving the first chance she gets. I don’t think we’re cool enough to be around all the time,” Auggie smiled. He knew that wasn’t true. Izzy had her own friends of course, but it school kept her busy. Same with work and horses.
“Oh, yes...I’m sure a lot of condoms were bought that day, or at least figured out. I don’t know what it is about school dances that get the hormones running up. Maybe that’s why they always had us dancing arms lengths away when I was in school.” He remembered even holding hands was a moment. Granted, he grew up in the community of marriage before sex, but Auggie never followed that spoken rule. His parents still cared for him, so that was already saying something. Though, they were a bit laxer in their beliefs versus a few other people.
Auggie let Ora’s kiss linger on him, letting his hands feel the curves of her back – and teasingly squeeze her buttocks. “We did. I moved Bean over to Helping Hooves, so she’s not stuck at the Sale yard anymore. I’m still her main rider, but the family that owns the place said she does well around kids. So that made me happy.”
He pressed his lips on her again, pushing her closer. Auggie tasted her for a moment before ending the kiss. “What do you have on your plate for today?”
Laughter escaped Ora, "Oh I don't know, perhaps not until after coffee is made, and I know for a fact she loves your coffee. I apparently burn it all the time." She was fairly certain that their daughter had a mild addiction to coffee, given that it would seem she always had a cup or thermos of caffeinated beverage with her. The woman wouldn't judge though, she remembered making her way through school as well as balancing a job, it required all of the caffeination one could get.
She could not help but to make a face when he mentioned condoms, "I do not need that vision in my mind. I've been here in Hickstead long enough where I had taught some of those kids when they were merely five years old." But the reality of it, Auggie was likely right. Many teenagers started experimenting at that age, the hormones running wild. Ora herself could not judge given what she had done in her youth running around the streets of Rio. Still, it was weird to think that little Ralphie O'Malley was now going by just Ralph and flirting with April Brian who had socked him in the face back in Pre-K. It all had hurt her brain.
Ora smiled into her kiss now, keeping it lingering as long as she could before her sheer joy could end it for her. Auggie's hands sliding down her backside to only squeeze her one of her cheeks didn't help the matter, causing her to officially break the kiss because his antics had made her laugh. She snuggled against her husband now as he spoke, "Oh? I'm glad you got her out of there and into a real barn. Not that sale barn isn't clean, but it must not be fun for Beans seeing all of her friends leave while she stayed put. I'm glad to hear she's enjoying the children there though." Ora had liked the paint mare herself, not enough to ride her, but certainly enough to spoil her rotten whenever she visited Auggie at the Sale Yard.
He distracted her once again with a kiss, although it was so easy for Auggie Flores to do. One of her hands cupped around his jaw and cheek as he pulled away, and Ora merely smiled at him, "Well, it was sleep in until you disturbed me," she teased, "Otherwise I have nothing. Why? Is my darling husband up to something?"
If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane.
“No, your dear husband isn’t up to anything. I prefer to live, to be fair,” he laughed. “More of a conversation to have with you, about a gift I want to give you.” That seemed to be the best way to go about it. At least, in his own mind and words. It was better than saying the flat We need to talk. Auggie learned early on, that was never the best phrase to say to someone or be the person receiving it.
He took her hand and caressed it softly with his thumb, giving her the look of a man sickly in love. Auggie stared at her for a few more breaths. Taking in her beauty. “I did very well the past year with work. And I know you’ve been wanting to go back to Rio. So…what about a family trip? As a gift for V-Day?”
Ora couldn't help but to quirk an eyebrow as she stared up at her husband as he stated that he was not up to anything. As far as she was concerned, anyone who ever informed her that they were not up to something was most defilingly up to something, "Well, I prefer you to live too." She chortled now, but it was cut short by his follow up: "More of a conversation to have with you, about a gift I want to give you.” Well, color her curious now. If she could arch her eyebrows any further, they probably would have disappeared into her hairline. The woman was deadly curious now of what Auggie could be proposing, but she remained curled into him as his thumb brushed over her hand, "Well, do tell then, dear Husband."
Brown eyes glanced back up at him, the gaze he was giving her warming her heart even more than she thought possible. But that was what it always felt like with Auggie Flores - every day spent with him, he always appeared to find a different way to melt her heart into a puddle of goo - and not just because the man was just so fucking sexy: “I did very well the past year with work. And I know you’ve been wanting to go back to Rio. So…what about a family trip? As a gift for V-Day?” Ora's mouth dropped, hanging open as she stared at him. She was certain that he hadn't knocked her speechless like this since his proposal. Finally though, both her mind and her heart finally began to function, "Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!" She broke their contact, but only for mere seconds as she flipped over now, her legs going to straddle him as she sat on top of his lap now, pulling his face into a kiss, "Oh Auggie...you can't imagine what this gift is to me."
She had so many questions - such as packing, when do they leave, did Izzy already know, but it all seemed silly to pepper him with in the moment. A smile pulled across her lips now, deviously so, before she whispered, "Meu Amor...I think Izzy is going to have to wait on her specials coffee a little while longer."
If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane.
