Hannah was in a melancholy mood and she was trying hard to hold on to it before it could turn sad. It had been some months since her son had been taken from her, and though her and Riley had been slowly piecing themselves back together, it was hard in moments like this. She had not given up, she would never give up looking for him, but she knew that it would get harder and harder to get him back as the time passed. She had to be strong, she had to be there for her other two boys - healthy and happy as they were, unknown to them that they were missing their third. They needed her, and Riley needed her too, as much as he wouldn't tell her or let it show. She knew him inside and out, he was hurting too and she knew he was trying to be strong for her. Hannah was trying to be there for him to, in ways he might not even realise.
Today, she'd gone out to pick up some bits the kids needed. They were settled and currently snoozing in their stroller, and she gently pushed it back and force out of instinct to keep them asleep as she browsed the babygrows on display. A touch of sadness as she looked them over, thinking of her third baby as she tried to decide on a couple to get the boys. Her eyes caught on one that mentioned being 1/3 and she swallowed hard to avoid the tears. There was no point in getting it, she didn't need a reminder of the third that was missing, she would never be able to forget. Sighing, she shook it off as best she could, hearing a sweet gurgle from the stroller and managing a small smile instead. They helped make it better, made her smile. They were surprisingly good babies, as if they knew the troubles their parents had and didn't want to make things worse.
She took a few steps away from the offending baby grow and picked up a couple of others instead, checking for the right sizes. "You guys grow so fast," She murmured softly, glancing at her list to check what else she was looking for and taking a step back. She stumbled as she accidentally knocked into someone, not having realised another person was in the isle with her she jumped slightly and spun, her heart pounding. "I'm sorry," She said automatically once her fight and flight instinct had taken a moment to check her and the fact she was not about to be attacked.
had he had a plan when he'd offered to take rae out that day? not a one. but he'd offered to that erin could get out and do what she needed without worrying about him or their daughter. so far he didn't think they were doing a horrible job of spending the day together. this morning she'd gotten an introduction to gaming while she'd been sitting on his lap, though he'd done his best to stick to games he was sure wouldn't give her nightmares, though he didn't tend to have too many of those. he didn't like playing games with situations he'd lived through, he had enough reasons for nightmares without adding anymore to the mix. then they'd walked blue and lucky down to the bakery to grab a sausage roll for lunch, taken the dogs home and then he'd thought what the harm could be in taking the drive to willow bridge to do some shopping.
what he was shopping for he had no idea, it had been more of a reason to try and get rae to take a nap but she seemed intent on not napping this afternoon and he didn't know if it was going to be a good thing or a bad thing later tonight but he was going with it for now, after all he couldn't force her to fall asleep. it wasn't long before they were walking through a store that was filled with baby clothes and he couldn't help the eyes popping out of his head as he looked at some of the stuff and the price that was attached to some of it. "do you need a 30 quid pair of pants you're going to outgrow in three hours?" he said as he looked down at his daughter in her stroller. "i think not." he said as he laughed a little before he hung the pants back on the rack and he took a step back so he could turn the stroller around and he felt himself knock into someone. "no it's my fault." he said as he turned around to see if who he'd knocked into was fine.

She thought perhaps after shopping it would be a good idea to get some lunch. Especially as the kids seemed settled enough, and being out and about was helping a little in terms of her mood. There was something about fresh air that just helped everything ease a little, even if it was a miserable day outside. Luckily it wasn't, and her and the babies had been able to enjoy a rare touch of sun to their skin before they'd entered the cool of the clothes shop. She smiled slightly at another funny babygrow but didn't pick it up, she wasn't here to spend all the savings, as tempting as that might be. She was normally much more aware of her surroundings, it was only instinct for her to be given how she'd grown up, but she'd be spoiled since then by a false sense of security among other nice things, and suddenly she was the type to be knocking into strangers.
"no it's my fault." She took a quick motherly glance into her stroller, wanting to check the kids hadn't suffered for her lack of concentration. They were still quiet and settled, dozing in the comfort of their blankets, and then she turned to face the stranger. And immediately froze. She should have recognised the voice, but she'd not been listening properly, but she recognised that face. That bastard fucking face. Rage took over in an instant, before fear or rationality did. Her heart leapt to see a baby with him. Her baby. It had to be. Who else would have that face and a little infant. How he could do this. Parade her stolen child around town as if he were a proud father. It made her sick. All this in a second, all so fast. Her brain screamed at her about the kids still in her possession. She had to keep them safe most of all. What if he tried to take the rest. "You. You.....you.." Words failed her, desperate to leap at him but unable to move a step. "Give me back my child." Her voice was a cold threat, but if she'd looked twice she would have seen the child wasn't hers, the nose not quite right, the hair not the right colour, the features not as masculine...
it took all of a millisecond for the look on the her face to change from apologetic to absolutely raging. the sudden shift made the hairs on the back of his neck prick up and he subconsciously shifted so he was standing next to the pram his daughter was in, rather than behind it. he kept a firm grip on the handle, every fiber of his being ready to defend his child at all costs. he'd had this reaction from people in town before, though he thought he'd been here long enough that most people ought to know there was someone else with his face wandering around town making a menace of himself. it had even gotten to the point he'd had to strip half naked in front of someone before she'd believed him. he and his brother might have the same face, but the scars and marks life had left on their body differed greatly. "i'm not who you think." he said as she repeated the one word as if it was on a loop in her head.
but then, she mentioned rae and dylan's eyes narrowed protectively. who the hell did she think he was, or who rae was? was she a nutter. he looked at the pram she was pushing and saw two babies and couldn't help but wonder if they were with the right mother. "i'm not giving you my child lady." he said as he started to push the pram behind him, in case she got any ideas. "take a breath and turn around, walk away." he said as he stared her down. he might not have been like cade, but he sure as hell knew how to stand his ground and scare the fuck out of people.

She was aware enough to see his look change - from oddly friendly to wary, but she only noted that in the part of her brain that was gearing up for the fight. He could easily be playing her - the best way to avoid a problem would be to act like she was the mental one in the situation. She swallowed her rage, trying to keep a rational head, even as blood boiled and she felt she could kill the man in front of her - lucky they weren't next to a display of sharp objects but she was sure she could make a weapon out of a coathanger.
"i'm not who you think." She gave him a look of disgust, "what a ridiculous line," as if he could be anyone else. She would never forget that face - never be able to. She despised him even more for pretending. "How dare you," Her voice shook with the strength of her anger and she took a step forwards, hands clenching and unclenching with the need to strike out. "i'm not giving you my child lady...take a breath and turn around, walk away." She glared right back at him, taking another step into his space, the outrage was clear in her face. "Your child? You can't come in here and act like you have any right..." The words failed her, she spared a glance to the child, her emotions warring on her face, the need to have her child back, that desperation, that panic. He was right there in front of her... being parading. "You are a cruel, disgusting little man, Cade. You will give me back my little boy." She lowered her voice. Sometimes, she felt people forgot where she came from. Mostly she was glad for it, but though she'd been off the streets a long time now, it had never fully left her. She'd been a fighter, she still was, especially when it came to her family, no matter how soft she seemed to have become.
he wondered in the midst of all of this, if he would ever be free of cade and his desire to fuck his life up. since they'd left the home it seemed that cades sole reason for living was to make his life a living hell because no matter where he went, there his twin was, causing trouble and blaming it on him. there was no point in arguing that he wasn't his brother to her it seemed, and he had a feeling if he gave her the dumbed down version of the fact identical twins were a real phenomenon, it wouldn't go well. he tensed as she took a step closer to him, and a step closer to rae. she was about two steps away from dylan ignoring the fact she was a woman and taking the steps he needed to to protect his baby against the seemingly crazed woman in front of him.
"i'm not the one making a scene in the middle of the store for no reason." he said, well aware that there would be people keeping their eyes on them, and the likely hood that security was already on their way seemed high, no doubt they'd blame him when they got there. then she took the step that was one to far, he'd been patient enough he thought, letting her advance on him but now she was to close to his daughter, his baby girl that lay there helpless to the world and he needed to protect her. he felt his fists clench and he pressed himself forward into the space she took up, his eyes narrowing and his stance threatening as he glared her down. "yes, my child." he snarled at her, his eyes turning dark as he used his larger frame to block her path to the stroller that rae was in.
there it was, the crux of this whole issue. she thought he was cade. there were times he wished he was man enough to wipe his brothers being from the face of the earth but he knew he never could, no matter what cade did to him, he could never kill his brother. "i am not.." he started but then she finished her sentence and he looked back at her and there was some surprise on his face. "lady if you take three seconds to look at my daughter and you'll realize how fucking wrong you are" he said, not moving an inch from her. "so back the fuck away from her before i make you." the situation might be changing but he wasn't taking any chance that she'd make a move even though she was talking about a son, crazy often didn't make sense.
