Cayden wasn't paying attention to the people around him as he continue walking towards his apartment, but he wasn't sure how else the night could get worse. The cooler night air wasn't helping much, especially when the hot coffee was now cool and sticky against his skin for what had touched him. He looked down at Scout when she came up to him and started talking before laughing at her comment. "What about a walk of shame from work after getting coffee spilled on you?" he asked with a smirk He wasn't sure entirely how he'd get into a restaurant or somewhere with no shirt, but he held it in front of him after taking it off from where he had it over his shoulder.
"Any chance you have a way to get coffee off of this so I can wear it if we do get food?" he asked before sighing. "I'm not sure why people don't watch where they're going, but I guess I could be blamed as much for not realizing that a person was going to open the door." he shook his head and ran his hand through his hair. "I could definitely use some food after that shift though." he said simply before letting out a slight yawn. Sixteen hours of a shift wasn't something he wanted to repeat for a while.
Cayden smirked and let out a small chuckle. "You've been dreaming about me for years Madi, it's ok to admit it" he said with a smile. "Ah yes, nothing but fires, no accidents, or saving the poor defenseless cats stuck in trees" he said while shaking his head. "Last shift we had a rescue response that I had to do CPR. I'll remind you once again, we help on rescues too" he says with a wink and a smirk before moving onto helping the patient.
"Well Carole, you seem to have cognitive function, so I'm not as worried about some things, but when we get to the hospital I'm sure they'll do all sorts of tests to ensure that you don't have a concussion. You do have some lacerations, so I'm going to cover the side of your face, where they are, with some gauze at this time to try to contain some of the blood. I'm not going to press down in case of pushing some of the glass in. " he explained before using some steri-strips to tape the gauze to the side of her head.
He nodded, not realizing that she probably wouldn't see it and then grabbed his radio. "Dispatch, this is Hawkins, riding with Stevenson to the hospital, possible head injury, with a laceration with some glass inclusions, as well as some minor injuries, please have them on standby, we're about - " he paused prior to looking towards Madi hoping that she'd get that he needs an ETA to relay.
Cayden was exhaused and he had just finished his last night shift prior to having a few days off, but of course shift pass off couldn't have gone to plan, and a call had came in just prior to switching. Of course this meant that they went to it, and ended up working an extra four hours while they tried to get the fire out, before handing the scene over to the next crew when they finally had a break in the action.
He quickly went up to the empty counter, because who else would be getting a cup of coffee at almost eleven at night, but he desperately needed the caffeine. He sighed, and handed over some money before waiting for them to make it and hand it off. As soon as he got it, he took a long drink and then moved towards the door. As he reached his hand out for the handle to pull it towards him, it ended up meeting his chest, and his coffee in the same swoop and his coffee ended up down the front of him.
Cayden couldn't help but close his eyes and sigh before looking down at the mess that was now on the floor. "Ahh sorry about the mess" he called out to the workers before moving towards where they kept the napkins and attempting to make it so that his shirt wasn't dripping more coffee everywhere. He looked up and couldn't tell which person had bumped him, and shook his head at being offered another coffee before making his way out, and walking down the sidewalk a little before peeling the slightly hot, sticky shirt from his body. Of course walking down the street shirtless wasn't the best idea, but he also wasn't going to walk around in a soaking wet shirt.
Cayden smiled and let out a little laugh. "Everything with you is complicated" he smirked before nodding. "Ah yes, the absolutely best person that deals with my shit on every call we go to together" he couldn't help but laugh. He knew that paramedics were some of the more stressed first responders just due to the massive amounts of calls that they could respond to. Firefighters generally had three types of calls, rescues, where they're assisting the paramedics, fires, and accidents. He much preferred fires, but that was because he got to run into the buildings and rescue anything still inside, as well as knockdown afterwards. Those were his favorite parts, but sometimes he enjoyed accidents that ended well, like today's.
"I help patients every shift!" he exclaimed with a laugh before smiling over at her again. "Of course since I'm so out of practice, it'd be best for me to drive right" he said with a wink before laughing at her defensiveness over him driving her rig. He helped get the gurney into the back of the ambulance and climbed in. "Hello, my name is Cayden, and up front we have the lovely Madi who will be safely driving us to the hospital" he said with a smirk and giving a quick glance up front before checking a drawer and grabbing a pen light and sitting down near the womans head. He was sure that she had a concussion, or something else from the impact. She was in a c-collar already, and he placed his hands on either side of her head ensuring that everything was secure before moving the pen back and forth into her eyes trying to see if there was any delayed pupil reactions for a potential check for a concussion. "Ma'am by chance do you know what day it is? As well as your name?" he asked before taking a quick glance over her to assess for any other injuries.
He noticed some blood on the side of her face, and figured it was either from the airbag or the glass from the window breaking. "Looked like a classic t-boned car, the other patient's door was jammed, had to pry it open, airbags deployed in both vehicles, seems like the glass from both vehicles led to some lacerations. Neither were pinned in via the steering column, but both were entrapped inside the vehicles, most likely due to frame damage. Simple extrications, and both patients seemed stable upon extrication and stabilization of their spines." he said towards Madison, but at the same time was using gauze and some saline that he found after searching a few drawers, probably messing up her organization of her rig a little, but he wasn't completely use to where she had everything, and it took him a bit to find the stuff. He cleaned up the blood, and took a look at the wound. "Category 1 laceration to the right temple, possible glass inclusions. Want me to remove them in the rig or wait for the hospital?" he asked simply. He wasn't completely sure what the standards were at this point, but he figured asking wouldn't hurt.
Cayden double checked the time in the text message and sighed when he realized that he was going to be just a minute or two late. Oh well it wasn't like this was appearing for his shift, it was for some photoshoot that Jamie thought was a good idea. Who honestly liked these things? He wasn't entirely sure but he was told that it was for charity, so he figured he'd attend. He had already styled his hair for the day, and threw on a simple outfit before getting in his car and driving over to the station. He saw quite a bit of cars there already, so he quickly got out, locked his car, and made his way in.
"Ah now that the fun has arrived, we can all start with the chaos" he said simply before grabbing some coffee, and adding some sugar and cream before taking a drink. "How many more people are we waiting for? Are some still missing?" he asked, more towards Jamie since he texted everyone, and he was sure that he could look and see who was missing, and figure it all out himself, but he didn't want to.
Cayden smiled as he could tell he had gotten her riled up. "I mean... that is part of your job is it not?" he asked with a smirk. Cayden nodded when she asked for help. "Chief, she's solo, want me to stay then she drops me back off at the station after?" he asked to Jamie. He wasn't sure what the Chief would say, but they were fully staff, going 1 man down for about an hour or so wouldn't be that bad. He helped her move the gurney into position, and put the wheel locks on before moving to the side to assist her in moving the patient to the gurney.
Upon Jamie allowing him to go with her he smirks. "I guess you can call me your partner, at least for this call" he said with a smirk before unlocking the wheels on the gurney upon the patient being put on and grabbing the other side. "As I said before, I'm here for all of your assistance. Want me to drive? Or stay back with the patient" he said with a smile.
As soon as the words left Cayden's mouth he almost immediately knew that it was the wrong thing to say. As his back hit the wall he dropped his gym bag on the ground and moved his hands to attempt to get this guys hands off of his throat. "I don't have anything that you're looking for in these dingy alleys." he struggled out before attempted to push him off again.
"I don't know who the fuck you are, or what you're even looking for, but fuck off" he said with another shove. Now he remembers why he preferred going to the gym before shift and not after it. This was one of those reasons. For some reason early mornings aren't the best time for drug runs, but late at night is? It makes absolutely no sense to him, but he wasn't stupid enough to put that shit in his body.

Cayden simply smiled when she said good. Maybe that was a good sign and he'd see her around the firehouse one day. He would always give a tour to a girl that was wanting one, with absolutely no issues at all. That was truly one part of the job that he enjoyed the most. Probably because it reminded him of all the time he spent at the firehouse when he was a kid.
"Ah travel, yeah that will absolutely keep things interesting. Makes it hard for holidays though right?" he said before shrugging. He had only traveled a little bit, and that was mostly leaving home and coming here since he couldn't imagine working in the same firehouse as his dad had. "Supporting locals is always the best, I mean I guess that's subjective though? Because if you travel, there's never truly one set of locals that you look at as locals?" he questioned a little.
"Not that worried about fires at this point, more EMT calls and accidents and such. Those seem to be more common, although I hope that this holiday season there's less fires overall. People just need to learn how to cook." he said simply. Most holidays people had fires during to cooking.

Cayden laughed as she mentioned getting charged with a picture. "We do no such things, all of our services are free" he said before winking at her. He tended to do quite a few tours and pictures, but it was mostly kids that came for that, and it reminded him of his childhood spent at the firehouse before everything changed. Those were some of his favorite moments, and he absolutely loved seeing the kids faces as they watched the trucks and the sirens. He smiled at the memories before shaking his head at her next comment. "I don't think you're desperate. I think you're truly wonderful for helping others and keeping me from going crazy here all day".
"It's always fun being the cool family member" he said with a smile. He wouldn't know, he didn't have any nieces or nephews, just a half sister that was the center of his mothers world. Of course that meant that he was essentially dropped from her world upon her birth. Of course he didn't hold it against his sister, but it was still hard to try to be close to her, when she represented so much hurt in his life. "Chained to the table unless a big emergency happens. We're not completely out of service for this, but we're also here in case anything happens here" he explained simply.
Cayden laughed at her reply before shrugging. "We already did most of the work, all you have to do is be the chauffer for the injured!" he said with a smirk. "I'm well aware of how dispatch works, need me to assist in getting the patient into the ambulance? Need help getting them onto the gurney?" he said before looking back over to the vehicle and seeing Jamie getting the door off finally. He smirked before gesturing with his arms to head towards his boss.
He moved over towards the vehicle as well and smiled. "The offer still stands you know?" he asked before he felt a hand hit the back of his head. He turned slightly and saw Jamie standing there and let out a chuckle. "Hawkins. Behave." Cayden laughed and rubbed the back of his head before grabbing a broom off of the truck and starting to clear up the debris. "I promise I'm not being gross when I say that I'm here for any help you may need"

Cayden smiled when she asked if that was so before nodding and smirking. As soon as her next reply came out he shook his head. "Ouch." he said with a laugh. He looked towards the others that were busy doing their own thing and sighed. "I seem to be the only one able to assist with your questions, but if you want to visit me at work I wouldn't be against that either" he said with a wink.
As she moved the different cards and looked at a few of them he smiled when one made it's way into her purse. "Desperate? You're desperate for me?" he said with a laugh. "No, we're here to make sure that the city is safe, as well as helping these families have a good holiday, what are your plans here today?" he asked before leaning against the table that they had next to it. He was hoping that she'd stay here and talk, as he was at least enjoying her company. Waiting and just hoping that others came over was boring, and she was good to look at, and at least gave it back to him.

Cayden sighed and leaned against the fire truck that was set up at the craft walk. The colder weather wasn't helping anything, and the loud kids screaming wasn't helping anything either. Why cold weather made kids go crazy he never understood, but it also could be the fact that they were outside. He knew that they were going to be here for the entirety of the Creek Walk, but they didn't have many people coming over to their area, since not many people wanted to hang out near the fire truck. Although they had the Christmas Angel Tree up where people could grab little cards to donate the gifts to a family in need, many were here just checking out the small businesses in the area.
Finally they had someone moving towards the tree and he smiled at the young lady who was making their way towards their booth. Of course at the same time another group came up and the others were handling them. He moved away from the truck and towards the tree as she asked her question. "We're actually requiring your phone number so that we can check in on the status of the gift and pick it up upon you having it" he said with a smirk. "Of course I could just give you my number, that way you can text me for me to personally be the one to pick it up and make sure that it's delivered safely"
Station Call: Car Accident. Willow Bridge City. Main Street. Two Cars. Possible Entrapment. Two Injured.
Cayden quickly got up from the table at the first ping of the station call and started getting into his bunk gear and jumping into the back of the truck. He looked up to the front to make sure that everyone was in the truck before rolling his window down and tapping on the side of the truck. His ritual for good luck. Nothing had ever gone wrong when he did it, and thus he did it in the truck of every call. As the sirens blasted, he kept his arm out of the window, keeping watch for other first responders, as well as keeping an eye out for traffic. They slowed down at a red light, making sure that all the cars stopped before making their way through it and coming up to the accident scene quickly. As soon as the truck started slowing down, he opened the door, and the second it stopped he jumped out and moved back to the gear box before grabbing a prybar.
By now the crew knew how each other worked and knew who was grabbing what, but of course Jamie had them run drills all the time, and thus he was the one that grabbed the Prybar, while someone else grabbed the Jaws of Life upon exit of the truck for any possible entrapments. Their duties changed based on the calls of course. When there was a fire he was part of the team that went into the house, although they tended to use a buddy system when it came to inside just in case of a collapse or if someone went down, there was always someone right there.
He ran towards the first car that was near him and saw the door crushed and it looked like the car was t-boned from the other vehicle. Why couldn't people just pay attention? What was worth getting through the traffic light? Didn't they understand that it could lead to someone dying. He doubted that anyone could handle killing someone through a car crash. It had to mess with their heads. He tried the door handle, knowing it was most likely jammed and looked at the guy in the car. "Hello, any pain in your neck?" he asked simply while trying to gauge the injuries that it could be. After his quick overview, he could see a gash on the head, and deemed that he needed a c-collar. He looked around for the EMT's to see if they were on scene yet, before turning back after not seeing them. "I'm going to need you to keep your head completely still, can you manage that?" he asked prior to turning towards his squad member behind him. "I need a c-collar stat." he said before taking off his overcoat and throwing it over the side of the door where the glass was still sticking out of the window, only partially broken. Cayden leaned in and looked down to see if his legs were pinned at all, seeing that they weren't and nodding. He felt a hand on his back before reaching to the side and having the c-collar placed in his hand. "I'm going to put this around your neck to keep you safe. We're going to have to pry the door open, but there shouldn't be an issue with glass since it already broke." he said simply before pulling his jacket off, dropping it to the ground, and grabbing the prybar that he placed against the side of the car and moving it into position. He looked around to the others and nodded "Everyone ready? he said before seeing the EMT's finally show up. "We'll need a backboard. We have a head laceration, and potential injury to the c-spine". He moved the prybar back towards the backdoor and pushed hard twice, and the door popped open.
He moved out of the way as the backboard came into place and the EMT's took over for this one. He quickly nodded, grabbed his jacket off the ground before moving his way to the other group where Jamie was with the SUV that crashed into the vehicle. "First vehicle cleared." he said simply to this group before moving to the passenger side and looking into the vehicle. This time it was a woman and she was already in a c-collar and they were working on extrication here. He saw the second set of EMT's coming up for the second car and smirked. Of course. They'd send this team with them, and he could never help himself. He moved over to where they were staging to get the woman upon her being out of the vehicle and slung his jacket over his shoulder. Jamie had this, he didn't ever have to worry when he was there. Their Chief always had their back, and they never had to worry when he was there. "So what brings you to my side of town?" he said with a smirk, although well aware of why they were there. They got a call just as much as his squad had. "I knew you couldn't stay away though"
Cayden wiped down the machinery at the gym after using it and then sitting on the bench to take a drink. He changed into his street shoes and put his workout clothes in the duffle bag before leaving the gym. He was walking out of the city, and was going to go back to his apartment to sleep, but of course, things don’t go to plan.
He heard a voice call out that it had taken him long enough and all he did was raise his brows and then shake his head. Of course, some drug addict was out here trying to score, and obviously he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Normally firefighters could help escalate situations, but sadly he wasn’t one of them. Well he could if it was life or death, but he didn’t think it was that drastic yet.
”Sorry man, I don’t have it” he simply responded, not thinking about how this could sound to someone else if they were thinking something else.

overall history • cayden grew up as a normal kid, spending time around the firehouse with his father, and looking up to him, until one night. the night that some police officers knocked on their door and woke him up. he went to the hallway near the door, and heard his mom start crying. he wasn't sure what was happening, just that all of a sudden things seemed to change. his dad didn't come home, the firefighters sometimes came around to see him and bring him to the firehouse, but overall he felt alone and adrift.
his mom met someone new and after a few years they got married, and had another kid. although he loves his sister, it's a rather rough relationship. after the marriage and kid, he was pushed to the side and started acting out prior to being arrested by a cop at 16 and told to straighten up.
he took the advice and ended up straightening up, and moving to another town. he took classes and went to school for fire prevention and ended up following in his fathers footsteps and becoming a firefighter himself.
