Scout let out a breath, watching it as it caused to light clouds. England was getting cold, but it wasn’t as hard as it could be. Going to school in Canada and traveling to places like Alaska for work, was nothing. If anything, she enjoyed the light frost.
Willow Bridge city was bumping today with the craft walk. Scout didn’t really do things like this often, but she was excited about having this weekend off for work. She firmly believed in getting items from locals to gift to her parents. Since the family was large, the siblings often did a secret Santa amongst themselves. But Scout went all out on her nephews and nieces. She was the cool aunt after all and had the money to boot.
Eyes looked at the map in her hand and nodded at herself. So far, she was in the right direction. As she was walking, Scout saw that the fire station had one of the trees up with their little cards. Feeling a bit more giving this year, she walked over and lifted one of the cards off to read it. “If we do these, do we drop them off at the station?” she asked any of the people that were there – not caring who answered her.

Cayden sighed and leaned against the fire truck that was set up at the craft walk. The colder weather wasn't helping anything, and the loud kids screaming wasn't helping anything either. Why cold weather made kids go crazy he never understood, but it also could be the fact that they were outside. He knew that they were going to be here for the entirety of the Creek Walk, but they didn't have many people coming over to their area, since not many people wanted to hang out near the fire truck. Although they had the Christmas Angel Tree up where people could grab little cards to donate the gifts to a family in need, many were here just checking out the small businesses in the area.
Finally they had someone moving towards the tree and he smiled at the young lady who was making their way towards their booth. Of course at the same time another group came up and the others were handling them. He moved away from the truck and towards the tree as she asked her question. "We're actually requiring your phone number so that we can check in on the status of the gift and pick it up upon you having it" he said with a smirk. "Of course I could just give you my number, that way you can text me for me to personally be the one to pick it up and make sure that it's delivered safely"
Scout looked up and lifted an eyebrow. For someone in uniform he was quite bold. He had a nice face but she wasn't about to compliment him. If he wanted to play like this she would. "Is that so?" she asked. "You're not exactly the person worth the money for it," Scout added with a smile.
She wasn't new to banter, but he was at work wasn't he? Scout put the card back on the tree before picking up another one. It was a bit more in her budget. A makeup kit and some pens. "What? Are you on like hot desperate chick patrol or something?" Scout slipped the card into her purse and reached for another. It was a bike this time. Maybe next year.

Cayden smiled when she asked if that was so before nodding and smirking. As soon as her next reply came out he shook his head. "Ouch." he said with a laugh. He looked towards the others that were busy doing their own thing and sighed. "I seem to be the only one able to assist with your questions, but if you want to visit me at work I wouldn't be against that either" he said with a wink.
As she moved the different cards and looked at a few of them he smiled when one made it's way into her purse. "Desperate? You're desperate for me?" he said with a laugh. "No, we're here to make sure that the city is safe, as well as helping these families have a good holiday, what are your plans here today?" he asked before leaning against the table that they had next to it. He was hoping that she'd stay here and talk, as he was at least enjoying her company. Waiting and just hoping that others came over was boring, and she was good to look at, and at least gave it back to him.
"That sounds like an invitation to charge me an exuberant amount to take a picture in the cabin with a stuffed dalmation." Maybe that was a bit of a stretch. She always knew that pictures in the truck were free when asked. It was as if there was some ego thing to give free tours of the station. Scout, obviously, would never be able to do what anyone in the first responder unit would be able to do. She knew how to handle an emergency in needed, but that was if someone busted their lip. She also knew how to do a fake burn but that meant nothing in the real world.
"If I was desperate, I'd be dead. But I'm sure there's someone out here with enough liquor. Even better when you don't have a specific age range." Scout was sure he would find his next target in some guy or gal. She didn't know what his preferences were, buy either way - once the liquor and reminding themselves they were lonely for the holiday, again. He'd be drawing. It was cuffing season after all.
Scout put the third card back and peeked one that said something about a gift card to a local restaurant. That was easy enough and a good choice of limit. "Eh, having to play the role of cool aunt," she shrugged. "So you and your team ball and chained here for the whole day?"

Cayden laughed as she mentioned getting charged with a picture. "We do no such things, all of our services are free" he said before winking at her. He tended to do quite a few tours and pictures, but it was mostly kids that came for that, and it reminded him of his childhood spent at the firehouse before everything changed. Those were some of his favorite moments, and he absolutely loved seeing the kids faces as they watched the trucks and the sirens. He smiled at the memories before shaking his head at her next comment. "I don't think you're desperate. I think you're truly wonderful for helping others and keeping me from going crazy here all day".
"It's always fun being the cool family member" he said with a smile. He wouldn't know, he didn't have any nieces or nephews, just a half sister that was the center of his mothers world. Of course that meant that he was essentially dropped from her world upon her birth. Of course he didn't hold it against his sister, but it was still hard to try to be close to her, when she represented so much hurt in his life. "Chained to the table unless a big emergency happens. We're not completely out of service for this, but we're also here in case anything happens here" he explained simply.
"Hmm..good." Maybe she would stop by but she may wait a bit before she would. Didn't want to appear to be that random person that showed up two minutes after being asked.
"Thanks," she responded not know exactly how to react to a complimentary statement. "I'm finally not traveling around this time of year. Plus, supporting locals is good, right?" This was the first time Scout had been home for the holidays since she lived In England. At least from what she remembered. Movies and theater were always demanding on schedule, but she always did her best to send gifts and video chat.
"Very true. Hopefully, no random fires. Don't need another one of those." Scout had only heard the stories of the Blue Acre fire. There had been a few murders and deaths around, mainly from what Tobi had told her. Nothing super close, but still. It sounded like the world needed a win this year.

Cayden simply smiled when she said good. Maybe that was a good sign and he'd see her around the firehouse one day. He would always give a tour to a girl that was wanting one, with absolutely no issues at all. That was truly one part of the job that he enjoyed the most. Probably because it reminded him of all the time he spent at the firehouse when he was a kid.
"Ah travel, yeah that will absolutely keep things interesting. Makes it hard for holidays though right?" he said before shrugging. He had only traveled a little bit, and that was mostly leaving home and coming here since he couldn't imagine working in the same firehouse as his dad had. "Supporting locals is always the best, I mean I guess that's subjective though? Because if you travel, there's never truly one set of locals that you look at as locals?" he questioned a little.
"Not that worried about fires at this point, more EMT calls and accidents and such. Those seem to be more common, although I hope that this holiday season there's less fires overall. People just need to learn how to cook." he said simply. Most holidays people had fires during to cooking.
“Keeps me interested though. Nothing like traveling the world and getting paid for it, no?” While the hours were grueling and hard – it was worth it. Hours were different now, with a lot of strikes from the union. Plus, there were a lot more safety things implemented, especially for those that had weaponry on set.
But Scout wouldn’t deny that she missed the adrenaline rush of being on set or the stage. There was something about having to rush around, or getting to know an actor really well when she was putting a latex body suit over them in a span of six hours.
“I guess, that’s fair. Drunk people always seem to be a bit more dangerous during these types of things.” There were a few times that Scout had set off the fire alarm, but she never burned anything down. “Or, better yet, people need to not throw cigarette butts into their trash. Seen that happen before. Thankfully, no one lost a lot – but yeah. People are dumb.”
