Tobias had a long morning at the police station that morning. There was a double homicide for him to help solve - it happened early on during the shift but he was still waiting on some test results. They would be given to the afternoon shift once it was done running its course. He needed to clear his head though as it was already wracking his brain.
After clocking out, he got on his bike - heading towards Seven Oaks. The man could tell that Dawn was in desperate need of a trail ride. They were both getting tired of working in the arena, but until today it had been either rainy or too cold. He arrived about twenty minutes later, parking his bike in a free spot before hopping off and heading inside. Dawn poked her head out, making the man smile. He reached his hand up and gave her a scratch on the forehead before heading to the tack room. The man unlocked his locker and pulled out his grooming kit, quickly getting the mare ready to hit the trails. He slid his feet into his pair of riding boots and picked up her bridle, sliding the bridle over her head after she was tacked up.
Tobias led the mare towards the trails, seeing the mare perk up as they exited the barn. He tightened the cinch and got on, glad there was a fallen log that most riders tended to use. He got on and moved the mare forward, letting out a sigh as if to let the stresses of the work day go.

“Please don’t tell me you used the wash rack the horses use. I don’t need to think that your coworkers or the other boarders saw you naked.” Tobias chuckled, he knew Seven Oaks well enough now - practically living there if he wasn’t working at the police station. He gave her a nod as he began to place their order. “I don’t think I need to tell you how dangerous it is without it. Or are you annoyed that your brother is a bit paranoid about it?” He knew all about being overprotective of younger siblings as he was one of the oldest in his family.
It was something new he was learning how to deal with. People tended to have different preferences when it came to communication. “I figured that. Though I never know how long you needed to get ready or anything.” He knew from having sisters that women took either forever to get ready or they could be ready in ten minutes. Tobi supposed it was dependent on their personality. “It’s really not that bad. Both jobs are forgiving about my schedule. I tend to plan my lessons around when I work at the police station. It tends to work out for most of my students anyway.” Though sometimes he would have two late nights in a row, but it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle. As he listened to her talk again, he shuffled forward as more people moved up in line. “That’s interesting. I would have thought your parents would have gone overboard about it. Were they protective of you too?” He wasn’t a parent himself but his own parents tended to let their kids be free and do their own thing, though none of them were born with any illnesses that were something that would live with them forever.
Their order was filled quickly and Tobias was able to order them both a water. He was debating getting an alcoholic drink, but he knew better than to drink knowing he was driving himself home. Once everything was placed on the counter, Tobias pulled out his debit card and paid for their order before putting the card back in the back pocket of his pants. “Well, shall we go watch this movie then?” He picked up both bottles of water, waiting for Emilie to grab the gummy bears and popcorn.
Tobias had always been good at memorizing what his friends looked like. He knew Lilith pretty well at this point, making her one of his closest friends in Hickstead.
As soon as he saw her arrive, he smiled at the woman. "Did you find anything interesting on their menu that you wanted to try?" He quickly checked where the end of the line was, heading over there so that they could start waiting. "How have you been lately? Any interesting happen at work recently?" They both had very interesting jobs, which usually meant when they were able to catch up - there was always a story or two to swap.
Using his height, he could see above most of the people in line ahead of them - looking at the menu board from where they were standing. It seemed as if they had a variety of Asian foods, something he usually tended to enjoy.
Tobias had finished up his training with Dawn - patting the mare on the neck before he walked her back to the barn. He had put the young mare through her first year of competition and was very proud of how far she had come. He dismounted the bay mare and handed her off to one of the stable hands, as he had asked them beforehand to groom and turn the mare back out.
Usually, he would have done this himself but he had plans to meet Lilith at the Farmer's Market to try out the new food truck. Tobias thanked the stable hand and made his way to his motorcycle - getting on as soon as he put his helmet on. The blond drove off towards town, enjoying the Fall scenery as he rode his bike. When he arrived, he pulled is bike into an empty parking spot and got off.
After locking the bike, he headed towards the market stalls - glancing around for his dark haired friend. Tobias checked his watch and looked up, seeing Lilith in front of him. "Hello Lilith, ready to induce a food coma with the new food truck?" He also needed to get carrots and apples for the barn, but that could be easily added on to their food adventure.
Tobias smiled softly at her again. "Wait, shower at the barn? Do they have one that I don't know about?" It would have been something that could prove useful - especially making it faster after work. Smelling like a dead body at the barn was something he didn't really want. "Your hair looks great. Though of course I'd rather you wear a helmet and be safe then have good looking hair." Safety on the bike wasn't something to joke about and Tobias was someone who cared about Emilie. "Hazelnut chocolate okay?" He reached for the purple foil covered chocolate bar and would add it to their pile of snacks once they got to the front of the line.
"Just making sure I didn't rush you or anything." With having sisters, he knew it wasn't easy getting ready. Makeup and doing hair wasn't exactly something he knew about. "I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Thankfully I also have the afternoon shift at the Crime Lab tomorrow." He had worked the graveyard shift the night before - it was exhausting and there was no amount of caffeine that could get him through it all. "That's good to know. Did your parents have to learn sign language then?" Tobias was really considering taking lessons - even if he and Emilie just remained friends.
As they approached the concession, he pulled out his wallet. "Yeah, popcorn and gummy bears sound okay?" He waited for the employee to approach them before he started ordering.
"Thanks. I really should have done something with my hair though. Did you have someone at the barn do your hair?" When they usually saw each other, he tended to notice her hair was down. Granted, at the barn people either tended to have their hair down or up - depending if they had a helmet on or not. "Of course, what kind of candy do you like? I'll eat pretty much anything." He would never say no to anything sweet - it wasn't anything he could burn off at the barn or working out at the gym.
Tobias moved along in the line as Emilie spoke, shaking his head when she mentioned someone had called in sick. "I swear someone is always sick there. Or do you think they were faking it to get out of work? You can always text and say you needed to come later." He knew from his sisters that it took awhile for women to get ready for a date - but some women could take twenty minutes and they were ready to head out the door. "Now it's time for you to relax and enjoy the movie, no more work until... tomorrow, right?" He had lessons to teach in the morning and was scheduled for the graveyard shift at the police station.
"Two tickets for Indiana Jones, please." He pulled out his wallet once they got to the start of the line, using his debit card to pay for both of their tickets. The person behind the counter nodded and pressed the buttons on the register. "Yes, just one moment please and I'll get one set up for you." Tobias felt dumb he didn't arrange it beforehand - it wasn't something he was used to. "Are you used to having one for movies or did you check if they had one?" He usually had his turned off when he watched TV. After paying for their tickets, he slid his wallet back into the pocket of his shorts.
It wasn't a long wait. Shortly after he arrived, he noticed Emilie approach him. "Hi, you look amazing by the way." He gave her a smile after he noticed the dress. It wasn't something he usually saw her in. Granted, until tonight they only saw each other at the barn. "Hope you have room for popcorn and a drink?" Tobi opened the door in the theater, letting Emilie go inside first.
"How was your day at work?" He asked, leading the way towards the line where they could buy tickets for their movie. Tobias had his wallet in the back pocket of his shorts, fully prepared to pay for both of them. He made sure Emilie was beside him while they waited in line. It seemed everyone had the same idea going to the movies as the line was pretty long. He took the time to glance at what movies were playing currently.
There seemed to be a mix of newer and older movies. "How do you feel about seeing something a bit older?" None of the new movies were anything interesting for him, but he really would see anything.
Wow are we at the point in our friendship where we send each other memes now?
That basically sums up work for both of us I think. Speaking of work, when are you working next? We should at least grab a coffee during our break if you'd like.
It had been a few months of texting and spending time with Emilie. He was enjoying her company and hoping she did as well. After figuring out their schedules, he sent her a text asking her to go to a movie with him. The summer weather was making it too hot to do something outside. When she had agreed, he was excited - wanting to ask her something important in person.
When the day came, he spent it teaching lessons at the barn and got a ride in on Dawn. The mare was happy to go on a trail ride. Once he got home, he showered and changed - deciding to dress up a bit. He ironed his linen shirt and headed out on his motorcycle - heading towards the movie theatre. It was about twenty minutes until he got there, parking and locking his bike before heading inside.
He checked his watch, waiting outside for her - thinking it would be rude to wait inside. It wasn't long before he heard footsteps approaching him, hoping it was who he was waiting for.
Ah well if Mama Thompson says, that def goes. No matter what anyone else says
They have a lot of different options so sometimes it's hard to choose. I try to catch the 6 AM Spin Class if I can. Sounds girly, but its actually tons of fun. If I work the graveyard, then there's usually a TRX class. Really depends on my work schedules lol
Well now I know. I wonder what it would be like to grow up in a World where all you know is the internet and social media.
