Rosa hadn't been sleeping well the last few evenings, which meant poor Jamie was deprived of sleep. It seemed like the young girl went through phases with her sleep cycle and he was desperately hoping she would get out of it soon.
He had dropped Rosa off at the Blue Acres property for daycare with Cara, even though it was his day off. Jamie had some errands to run and Rosa really enjoyed her time there. His first stop of the day would be the pet store. He had heard about them having a few cats up for adoption that he wanted to look at.
After a quick stop at Starbucks to get himself some caffeine, he drove off towards the store. It wasn't difficult to find after putting the address into Google Maps and he arrived about ten minutes later. He parked his car and headed inside. The bell rang as he entered, smiling as he noticed that he recognized someone else in the store.
"Ila, fancy seeing you again so soon." He stopped beside her and started looking at cat toys.
To say she had been busy was a flat out understatement. It seemed as the weather warmed and then cooled again the more calls for injuries they received at the vet clinic. Finally she had a few days to herself and she was going to take full advantage of it. Except for that darn internal clock of hers not letting her sleep past a certain time. So she found herself in her favorite spot in the living room with her cup of tea, watching Sparrow and Finch zoom around. The young setter mix had made a great adjustment to his new wheels and he was like a whole new dog and he was able to get around ok with out the wheelchair but Ila always made sure to help him up the stairs and back down as well as lifting him up onto the furniture. She giggled as the two disappeared around the corner and came back around, it was part of the morning routine and they could make a full circle around from the living room through the kitchen and back again. Ila stood and went and placed her mug and plate into the sink before heading upstairs to change so she could head out for the day. Ila laid out a white long sleeve shirt and a suede skirt with tall white socks and a pair of fashion boots. Heading into the bathroom she went over to her vanity and pulled the chair out setting to work on her hair and finally applying a very light touch of makeup. She quickly changed and put a plaid scarf around her neck and zipped the boots up before heading down the stairs. She grabbed her purse and Finch and Sparrows leash clipping them to their collars before heading out the door. With Finch and Sparrow situated in the truck she hopped in and drove to the pet store. Today was all about the dogs, she needed to restock on a few of their favorite things, that and she wanted to see how the cats and kittens were doing, hopefully by this time a few had been adopted. The bell chimed as the trio walked in, grabbing a basket she headed over to the toys. A voice caught her attention and she looked over to see Jamie she gave him a smile. “What are the odds?” She spoke with a light laugh, “did you get a kitten yet or still looking?” She spoke again noting he was looking at cat toys, Sparrow and Finch looked at the man before settling in next to ilas feet.
Jamie took a sip of coffee before quickly realizing that Ila had two dogs with her. When he glanced down, a smile graced his lips. “I should have known with two dogs that you’d spend a lot of time here.” Jamie made sure to look up at Ila as he spoke. Savannah came to check on Jamie, knowing he didn’t spend much time at the pet store. He politely told her he was just looking and the dark-haired woman smiled and left. “I haven’t yet. Savannah and Kasimir have told me they have a few for adoption here. That’s what I’m here to check out. What brings you three here?” He could only assume it was dog food but there were other things to buy there. Jamie glanced over at where they kept the animals that needed adoption. He had read online that it was adoption week for kittens so there were plenty for him to choose from.
“How have you been anyway? And who are these two pups?” He noticed the one with the wheelchair and wondered if it was the dog Ila had mentioned during their last hang-out.
Ila gave a light smile, “Yes yes we do spend quite a bit of time here.” She spoke adjusting the leashes in her hand. She wasn't worried about them running away, they were very well-behaved dogs but for them to come into the pet store they had to be leashed and that was just fine by her. When he spoke again Ila nodded, she knew there were quite a few cats and kittens here, she had seen a few at the clinic over the past couple days, it was one of the reasons she had come here was to see how many had found homes and how they were adjusting and doing. “Oh, today is all about the dogs we need to restock on some of their favorite things and they always leave with a new toy or two when we come here, guess you could say they are a little spoiled. “She looked down at her dogs with a smile, they were very much like her children, if they could come, they were with her no ifs ands or buts. “You better jump on getting one of these kittens they are a great group and stinking cute if I do say so myself, they all have wonderful personalities too, anyone would be lucky to have one.” She smiled and shifted the basket, “I have been pretty good just busy at work finally have some me time now, this is Sparrow and Finch, Sparrow is my three-legged dog I was telling you about and Finch is the one I was in the process of adopting last time we talked he is officially all mine and he is adjusting very well to having a wheelchair to zoom around in.” She smiled, “so what about you what have you been up too? If you want, we can walk over to where the kittens are, and you can start looking these two won't hurt a fly and they are just happy to be out and about believe it or not I'm happy to be out and relaxing versus racing around the clinic with what feels like my head chopped off.” Ila gave a light laugh and looked to Jamie.
