Harlow Alenko was utterly furious. The 10 a.m. slot was her training slot, and her's alone. It wasn't there for sharing. She had been rocking that slot for the past five years since John Ryan took over as her trainer. And yet, a mere half an hour ago, Ty Webber had informed her that he had to help Claudia VanderBeek tack up since she would be joining her. No wonder when her beloved boyfriend had approached her, he had a look on his face and the body language to brace himself against an atomic bomb. Oh, Harlow was going to be an atomic bomb alright, but not to Ty. She promptly canceled her lesson to Ty - informing him to tell John because she had to take care of something.
The young woman knew who to blame in this situation. It wasn't him. It wasn't John since he was no longer in charge of his scheduling. It was his personal assistant. That and Claudia - that smug girl would have it coming later. She had stalked out all over Ryan Barn, like a hangry lioness on the prowl for an unsuspecting gazelle. Some of the other riders and grooms could tell, since they promptly gave her a wide berth. Thirty minutes had gone by, the seconds coming down to when personal assistant Ivan Park would arrive at the front office. She was in the yard now, hanging out as casually as he could when a car pulled up, containing the very person that Harlow wanted to talk to.
"Ivan!" she yelled, but damn, he was fast. Faster than she expected, and he may have mastered the form by now to block her out which only made her angrier. Being ignored was something that the young woman didn't handle all too well, well, the young woman didn't handle a lot of things very well given that she was raised being given everything she ever wanted, and if she hadn't, well, she took it without asking. Her parents raised her well, at least by their cut-throat standards. Harlow stalked after him fast, straight to the front office so she could block the door, having him pin. He wouldn't escape her now, "Ivan!" she started, attempting to control her voice since even she knew he wouldn't roll over so easily for her, "Why on earth was Claudia VanderBeek scheduled to share the same air as me? That bimbo and her nag are no where near the level that Alpha, Beamer, and I are at." Well, she was, but Harlow Alenko refused to believe that.

van had gone out to get a few last-minute items for John from the tack store. Nothing major, but some polish and a repair kit. There tended to be a lot more running around these days, with the business of the competitions coming up. It kept Ivan from idling too long, which was great. He did feel bad since he wasn’t able to hang out with Mina, let alone text her silly cat memes as much as he did before the craziness. But she was probably the more understanding of his circle. She had all the engagement and wedding bands to be done.
He was making his way to the office to drop off the receipts and the bag of goods in his arms when he could feel her. Harlow’s eyes followed his back like some laser pointer. Her breath was near, and with luck – his phone went off as he was turning the last corner to the line of offices.
Not caring what Harlow’s reaction was, he answered the phone. “Ivan Park, how can I help you?” He placed the bags and receipts on the table outside of John’s office before turning to Harlow. Like a parent on the phone with grandma, he held his index finger up – before giving a soft knock on John’s door to notify him the delivery was dropped off.
“Of course, yes. That is the correct amount of ordered feed. Tomorrow? Yes, 10 am drop off is fine.” If Harlow was going to follow him, he was going to make it hard for her. There was some slight enjoyment out of it.
When the phone call was over. Ivan abruptly stopped after what felt like a few laps of the arena. He turned around to Harlow, offering that kind smile he always had. “Ms. Alenko,” he said. “What can I do to help you?”
It was hard to imagine that Harlow couldn't get any more annoyed by her morning, but it soon became clear that she could, at exactly the moment that Ivan Park held his finger out to quiet her like she was some fucking five year old child. Dark brown eyes narrowed at him, her anger bubbling up now, and she made a mental note to figure out how to steal his prosthetics and make his life a living hell. If anyone had asked Harlow what the worst thing about Ryan Sports Hall, it would be the man in front of her. John Ryan had practically giving his Personal Assistant the keys to the Kingdom, and Harlow didn't like that. It meant sharing John with someone who controlled his schedule, and even worse, it meant that she couldn't control her schedule or his.
Her arms folded over her chest now, bitterly tapping her foot away in the office as she watched Ivan walk around like a hawk, hoping to bore a hole into the back of his head so she could be done with him forever. Unfortunately, reality that didn't seem to work that way, since he was still standing. Matters were made even worse when he turned around now, and simply beamed a smile at her, and that just rubbed her even more. The motherfucker knew exactly what he was doing, "What can you do?" she asked now, suddenly annoyed that she was so short and he was so tall, "You can fix your scheduling error. I am not sharing John with Claudia Vanderbeek." She should end it there, but her anger was still flaring, "I thought I made it clear to you when you arrived here that I always ride alone with John. I get private training sessions."

rust me Harlow, I’m very much aware. But you’re also aware John owns this place – and when he asks me to change something for a day, I do it.” He kept his smile plastered on his face. Everyone seemed to warn Ivan about Harlow. How her behavior was very silver spoon shoved down her throat. Honestly, though, she could be a lot worse. There was no better combination than a rich scientific donor. Granted, he knew he would always be a death target for her, but what could she do? John wasn’t going to fire him or bend over backward for Harlow’s will. Not unless she was family.
“Today was the only day you two were overlapping, due to an important meeting during Claudia’s session. A very important meeting. So don’t worry, the rest of the week – you’ll have him privately.” Ivan made sure to really draw on the importance of the said meeting, almost hinting that Harlow was not the most important thing to John’s Day. While Harlow was the most demanding, her lack of self-awareness seemed to make her think she was the bell of the ball. More of a piece of lichen on a rock in Ivan’s eyes – but he just kept on smiling.
“Since I’m assuming you had Ty cancel your lesson today – I can reschedule a make-up session this week, this Saturday. 9 am slot. Or you can go back and use the allotted time for today.” He looked at his watch. “You have five minutes to make your decision.”
Harlow understood the words coming out of the personal assistant's mouth, but for some reason, she could not possibly comprehend them. Why would John Ryan ask Ivan to reschedule her? Surely, he could not mean that. Ivan didn't know what he was talking about - she was John's star pupil after all. The young woman also didn't like that smile that Ivan had plastered across his face like it pained him to be so nice to her, it annoyed her how fake it looked compared to his words. Harlow shifted her weight from one foot to another, merely to do something with her excitable, angry energy as she flatly, and quite stubbornly, replied, "I don't believe you."
This point was only driven home when the man went on to inform her that John had an important meeting that interfered with her schedule. Once again, Harlow was certain that Ivan was speaking tongues to her. The fact that he stressed how important the meeting was just made her far more irritable, and full of denial, "I am his best rider, Ivan. He cannot simply have anything more important than me." The concept of anybody having anything more important than her was completely foreign.
He was still feigning that smile at her, and it still annoyed her. But what annoyed her even more was that the personal assistant was giving her an ultimatum. The fact that he looked at his watch made it even more annoying, like he had better things to do than argue with her. Harlow wasn't sure why, as far as she knew, he was single and had nothing better to do with his life than act like he was the ruler of Ryan Sports Hall as if John had given him the keys to the kingdom, "I am not riding with Claudia. Why don't you move her?" she demanded now, nevermind that Ty was helping Claudia tack up as they spoke, "I don't understand why she isn't the one being penalized by this 'supposed meeting'? She gets both John and Ty for the hour?"
