As one of the older workers (in age) at Diesel Ranch, the young crowd often makes him heave some heavy sighs, but he'll still humor conversation with them or look out for them if need be. Raleigh doesn't care to talk much about himself, and often steers any questions back towards the other person. He doesn't mind looking out for the little guy or most people, but more often than not, Raleigh primarily looks out for himself nor should people consider him honor bond to them. Raleigh can have a dark and moody streak if triggered, and its best to not be on the other side of his fists.

overall history • Raleigh Landis was born to his mother, Ginny Landis, in Raleigh, North Carolina. While she knew she had been expecting, the woman had never really put much time into picking a name, for fear that she would want to give up the baby the second he was born. Instead, Ginny decided to keep him, and thus, just picked the name of the town he was born in as his birth name. Ginny was a hustler from down south, a young woman who left her trailer park life behind the day she turned sixteen to make a name for her own. While a baby boy had not been in her plans, she loved him to death and made sure to look out for him no matter the cost.
They traveled all over, leaving whenever their presence caught the attention of the police or people who didn't like them. Raleigh didn't mind, he didn't quite comprehend their situation, and figured it to be normal. It was only when he turned eight did he figure that perhaps this carousel of moving and boyfriends of his mother's wasn't exactly right. He did his best to not complain though, and something must have happened, because one day, they were leaving their stomping grounds of below the mason dixon line and heading North. It was a shock to Raleigh especially, with his southern twang and questionable schooling, he didn't quite fit in but his mother didn't seem to care.
Eventually, they ended up in Boston, and Ginny found a man that she wanted to be with. Raleigh didn't like him though, something was off about him, but he couldn't quite figure what. Turns out it was drinking. It didn't take long though for Pat O'Kefee to show his colors under the guise of alcohol. He hit Ginny and he hit Raleigh when drunk. The problem was that when he didn't drink, he was awfully nice, so Ginny wouldn't budge. Raleigh himself couldn't get it, his strong independent mother changed, and for what? Some guy that was only nice half of the time? And when he was sober? Even though Raleigh was little, he fought back. He fought back everywhere - home, school, the streets of Boston, you named it. He was an angry kid, an angry teenager.
Someone eventually noticed him, he got a part time job at a gym in exchange for MMA lessons. Something to feed and fuel his anger. It did Raleigh well, he went from scrawny and awkward, to lean and muscle. And when he was in the octagon, Raleigh was downright dangerous. He gave into that anger and hatred bubbling inside him all the time, and his trainer allowed it to happen. MMA became his life, legal or illegal, he was in a fight starting at sixteen. Pat didn't fuck with him at home, and he didn't fuck with Ginny either when he home either. Raleigh forgo'd college upon graduation, he had been lucky enough to graduate. He went pro, no more illegal fights, and everything was professional now and by the book. Yet he couldn't shed that anger, that need to feed the beast that lurked inside of him.
Raleigh did good for a number of years, nothing seemed to slow him down until his early thirties, then everything went south. He killed a man during a life match, didn't even realize it. Kept on hitting and hitting after the opponent went down, turned Raleigh had snapped his neck and hadn't even realized it. A moment that would go on to likely haunt him for his lifetime. His agent dropped him, the MMA dropped him, everyone was gone, and Raleigh was left on his own with no degree and no knowledge but how to fight. He got by, living out of his car eventually and showing up at underground fights. One day, a friend found him. Connor. He couldn't even remember when or where on how they met, but they knew each other from one gym or another. He took Raleigh in, just to get him back on his feet.
All of the sudden, he was back out south west again, with rolling lands and cattle. Raleigh wasn't allowed to leave, no underground cage matches to be visited, no octagons to be seen. All what he did was heavy, handed ranch work and healing with horses and cows. The man was resistant at first, mainly because the work was physical in a way that he had never known, and the horses and the cows, they could see the anger and despair him and wanted nothing to do with him. Yet with any foundation, brick by brick with Connor's help, Raleigh came around and he became a new man. Less angry, but that beast would always be there. He mellowed out, calm and collected, just like the animals he worked with and the routine of hard and physical work paid off.
A few years, Raleigh was free to go. His friend though, was a little nervous, after all, one didn't have to be a drug addict or an alcholic in order to relapse into old habits. So Connor called a friend who had a ranch out in England, and made arrangements for Raleigh to work there - shipped him off with a horse, and before long, they were in Hickstead on Diesel Ranch, and returned to work. But that itch to fight was always there, to return to the underground, to return to the ring. Whether Raleigh gives in or not has yet to be seen by those who know him at the ranch, but he's pulled it off now a few times. Still, unlike before, he remains content to live and work on Diesel Ranch.
