Emmett felt that for once the work day had flown by. He insisted to his staff that they would be finished on time today. There had been far too many late nights of everyone working - the biggest case of the year so far they had won. Everyone deserved a break and Emmett had promised Renee that he would be home for dinner, so that they could discuss the upcoming Gala.
The older man shooed the last of the staff out of the office, Landon being the last one to leave and needed a bit extra convincing to have an early night. Emmett sighed, picking up his laptop bag before leaving and locking up the office. He headed to the car and started the journey home, feeling odd that he was leaving on time for once.
As he pulled his car into the garage, he leaned his head against the headrest - giving himself a moment to wind down and close his eyes before getting out and heading towards the house. He smiled as he noticed the front door was unlocked, meaning Renee was home too.
"Honey, I'm home. Aren't you proud of me for leaving work on time? I had to drag poor Landon away from his office though." He called, taking his shoes off at the front door and hanging his laptop bag on the hook nearby.

Emmett was just about to hit his head against the wall. The case he was working on was causing him to use the last of the brain power he had for the day. Renee had called him twice, wondering when he was coming home for dinner. He promised her he wouldn't be much longer - wanting to make sure he made that division between work and his home life.
He was currently typing away, his eyes blinking more than usual due to staring at a screen all day. Emmett knew that he and Charlie were the only ones left in the office - the rest of the staff had left at least an hour ago. He glanced at the clock and as if his paralegal knew he was bored, the young man entered his office. Emmett glanced up from the screen, listening to what the young man had to say.
"A stowaway? As in a person snuck into the firm? Or are we talking about an animal here?" He got up from his chair, prepared to start looking for this thing that Charlie had mentioned. "What did you hear and where do you think it is coming from?"
identifying features• his hair tends to be short on the sides and a bit longer on top. The color is a dark blond - almost brown. His facial hair is kept short, unless it starts to drive him crazy - then he shaves it all off.
the personality
likes • serving justice, RENÉE ELIZA HAHN , cats, rugby and his work.
dislikes • getting lost, losing a case, clowns, heights and puppets.
strengths • complex problem solving and his communication skills.
weaknesses • fancy coffee and classic literature.
dreams • to have a family of his own.
fears • of being abandoned.
overall personality • Emmett is a total workaholic. So much so that Renee usually has to drag him away from his work. His empathetic personality makes him relate (sometimes a little too much) to his clients and his working students. He is getting really good at his work-life balance - keeping his cases at work unless Renee is interested or asks about it.
Away from work, he does enjoy spoiling his family - taking his nieces and nephews to some sort of activity on the weekends or hosting some sort of family get together on Sundays. Many people who are close, younger friends consider him more like an uncle than a friend. Emmett can be harsh to his student interns, employees and partners, but at the end of the day he wants everyone around him to be successful.
the history
father • Caleb Armstrong, 73, retired neurosurgeon
mother • Richelle Armstrong, 70, dog breeder
siblings • Maya (middle sister) and Sonya (youngest sister)
overall history • Emmett's parents met in New York while Richelle's brother was suffering from a brain tumor. Caleb was flown in by the Hospital to assist with the surgery, as brain tumors were his specialty. At first, the two kept in touch about Richelle's brothers recovery but it soon blossomed into a long distance relationship. It took a few years before Richelle left New York and moved to Southampton - taking her two prized breeding dogs with her. They got engaged, married and had Emmett not that long afterwards. Caleb was thrilled to have a baby boy, being from an old school rich family.
His childhood was pretty easy - being shipped off to boarding school in Scotland when he was old enough. The young boy had the best education money could buy, thriving under the traditional school system. His father enrolled him in rugby during school, wanting him to have some sort of team sport as well. Behind the picture of the perfect family, Richelle was struggling at home. It was hard for her to raise two girls by herself with Caleb working odd hours at the hospital and often being called to fly abroad to lend his services to other patients. As Emmett only spent his summers at home, it wasn't something he realized until his sisters pointed it out to him. He was now almost an adult, deciding to sit her down and have a conversation about it. Caleb at first was angry about Richelle admitting her feelings, but he made a conscious effort to spend more time with his family.
Shortly after High School graduation, Emmett got accepted to Stanford University, meaning the family would be split up. He promised he would fly home when he could, spending the summers and Christmas there too. Emmett continued to study, avoiding any parties his roommates decided to throw on the weekends. He found himself often homesick, but he knew the end of his schooling was near. During his second year of law school, his family moved to London - making Caleb's commute to the hospital much easier.
During the Summer of his last year of law school, Emmett met his future wife. His mother had concerns about her top-breeding dog, Gigi. Renee showed up with the veterinarian. At first, Emmett thought the woman had way too much energy - he didn't mind being kind, but it was almost as if the red head was all sunshine and rainbows. His mother on the other hand, thought they would be a good match, suggesting that they plan to see each other again. It really didn't take long for him to warm up to her, and the pair got married in the Summer of 2010.
He did his internship at one of the big law firms in London, happy to be back in the country where he grew up. Emmett continued working and living in London with Renee until he got an opportunity to start his own firm in Willow Bridge. The couple moved there in 2016, keeping their London flat for when they wanted a weekend away.
Emmett wasn't surprised that Renee was getting bored being at home shortly after they moved away from London. He encouraged and helped with starting the cat cafe as much as he could during his free time.
