“Of course, I did! I just know how to hide it better,” Jessie teased. She knew how to party hard and wild, almost every person did at some point. The nights of waking up after being blacked out. Jessie did a few things that were a harder drug, too – almost fit the culinary school image. She was just happy that she didn’t pick up smoking – a stereotypical habit of chefs worldwide.
“Morning, Brandon,” she smiled, watching her eldest waddle over to the coffee. Jessie waited until he had gotten his. Her eyes watched his face and his body movements, similar to Evie. The young woman was observant, there was something different in Brandon’s mannerisms. Nothing wrong, but different. “How was your evening with…Lilith?” Jessie decided to bite the bucket. It was probably an embarrassing question from either Evie or his own mother. Though, coming from Jessie – it could possibly be worse.
After her kiddos got their first cup. Jesse swooped in and began the process of making an espresso. “And how were Nash and Tanner?” Jessie targeted at Evie, to help tip the scales.
New Year’s Eve was not what Jessie was expecting it to be. It was fun, of course, but the amount of people seemed to be growing. She had plenty of food, of course, but maybe it was because of the number of younger people that were there. Eva had her friends, and then the young folk of her friends. There weren’t too many shenanigans, thankfully. No broken items or destroyed rooms.
Like a usual old person, Jessie had woken up before everyone but decided to stay in her room until it was a reasonable time to stir. She didn’t drink like she used to and was honestly surprised that she was up for the midnight blowout. Though, it could’ve been from her coffee with a splash of baileys in it that she offered to keep that energy up.
She didn’t move from her room until she heard the door open of another room. Jessie didn’t know who it was, but she figured she could get a cold buffet started. She made her way to the kitchen and saw Eva blanking out, watching the coffee machine pour the black gold.
Her daughter was wearing the same thing she wore the day before and Jessie couldn’t help smiling. She remembered those days. Mascara and eyeliner streaked around the eyes. Jessie had watched how Tanner babied Eva a bit. The young man didn’t drink, but he was polite. Didn’t do anything creepy, thankfully. If anything, Jessie was pretty sure Tanner and Nash stayed as well. Not like Jessie was going to deny any of the people space to knock out. Safer that way.
“Good morning, my sweet Evee girl.” Jessie was a bit more polished looking, but she still had a bit of a tired look. She began to tidy up the kitchen island, just a bit to make room for the coffee bar she was planning on setting up.

the appearance
face claim• Sandra Bullock
identifying features• Elyse stands at 5'-7" most days, though her height will change on what heels she's feeling for a few events. Formally, she was always strict with her outfits. Slacks, button-downs, and a tight hairstyle. Since moving to Hickstead, Elyse has become someone who lives in linens and light cotton. Maybe as her sense of freedom to allow herself to live the way she wants to. Always in no or natural makeup, and her hair is often down with natural waves and highlights. Professionally, her strict formal self came out to play - but not as face-lifting as before. The only thing that Elyse is self-conscious about, is the faint scar she has on her left clavicle. It's the remnants of when Isaac attacked her with a kitchen knife at work.
the personality
likes • gossip, gardening, running her businesses, hearing the sound of water, full moons, seeing the stars, reading in her hammock dislikes • her ex-husband, well-done steaks, undercooked food, getting angry, her kids not cleaning up after blowing up the kitchen strengths • cooking, baking, managing a group of people, keeping calm in stressful situations, independent weaknesses • letting go of control (esp when it comes to her kids cooking), staying up late (10 PM is considered late for her), being in the city (prefers the countryside) dreams • retire from catering, getting the B&B more popular, date again, see her children be happy fears • Isaac trying to re-enter Brandon's life, Eva going back to her former life overall personality • Elyse is the shell of the person she was. She was always a happy, pushing-the-limits child. But since her marriage, she's lost a lot of her former self. Despite the therapy and almost 30 years of time, Elyse is still jaded about love and relationships that aren't friendships or family.
Always fiercely independent, Elyse has instilled those values in her children. Not to the point that they don't need anyone, but more of how to be a functioning adult. She's a firm believer that you should never have to rely on anyone, especially financially. Also to allow themselves to be selfish for their needs. Her beliefs have had a negative impact, especially when her children have brought up dating - as Elyse's standards for her children are higher than they are for herself.
She's stern but fair with her employees and isn't afraid of hard work. Elyse isn't the workaholic she was before and is hoping her son, Brandon will stop overworking soon. Mainly so he doesn't feel the need to help and provide all the time.
the history
father • Mark Garnet, deceased mother • Barbara Lipe, deceased siblings • Lauren (56), Jacob (46) important people • Isaac Garnet (nee Martin), 55, ex-husband BRANDON COLTON GARNET , son, 30 EVANNA MAXINE GARNET , daughter, 19 Aunt Marge, deceased hometown • Hudson, New York overall history • Elyse was born in Hudson, New York as the middle child of three children. She grew up in a humble and middle-class household, enjoying the beauty of Hudson Valley. Cooking wasn’t something that came naturally to Elyse, which is a surprise to everyone who knows her and her professional work. While she liked being in the kitchen with her father and grandparents – it was rare that she did anything past knowing how to cook eggs and pasta. The classic survival foods.
She wasn’t the best student either, always daydreaming and running outside – prompting her family to think she was going to be a professional outdoors person. Elyse’s siblings were the ones who excelled in home cooking, though both never entered it professionally – opting for chemistry or finance.
It wasn’t until college that Elyse found her love for cooking and the skills she needed. Mainly it came out of necessity. She didn’t hate herself enough to double major though and did culinary school after getting a biology degree at Bard College.
During culinary school, is when Elyse met the love of her life. Well, she thought he was. She was young, dumb and honestly wondered how she allowed puppy love to get to her so fast. Things happened, and Elyse found herself engaged and married after 1.5 years of being together. Pregnancy came quickly after, prompting Elyse to drop out of culinary school and follow Isaac to Denver. Because his dream of working in Colorado was more important than her dream of completing school.
Once isolated, it didn’t take long for Isaac’s true colors to show. There was no physical abuse, but the narcissism became more apparent. Thankfully, Elyse was able to escape for the most part when she caught Isaac having an affair with his much older, male co-worker. She was able to surprisingly kick Isaac out safely and swiftly, giving her the time to somewhat heal after giving birth. Her family was thankfully able to visit and help move Elyse and Brandon back to New York.
Elyse was able to finish culinary school and give Brandon a few peaceful years in New York City until Isaac came knocking around looking for her. Claiming he had changed and deserved to be in his son’s life. That he had a moment of weakness. But he hadn’t changed, if anything he had become unhinged and worse. Almost to the point of sabotaging any sliver of happiness and well-being Elyse created for herself.
It took an incident of Isaac showing up to a restaurant where Elyse was working, to finally have anything done for her safety. Isaac received jail time, enough for Elyse to have some peaceful time in the Hudson Valley.
While Brandon was in school, often in the care of her parents - Elyse was finally able to start up her own business. An intimate farm-to-table, all produce and meat from the farms of the Hudson Valley. It was a small start, obviously, but picked up after two years of hard labor to the point of burnout.
Life was grand until Isaac was released. Elyse was able to hold down the fort for a few more years before Isaac began poking around again. Fearing for herself and her family, Elyse sold half of her restaurant to her business partner. The money she received, she used to help locate herself and Brandon to Hickstead, where her Aunt Marge lived.
It was an adjustment, but there was no way Isaac could follow them here, right? Once she felt a bit more at ease – Elyse picked up some work at the Silver Stag Hotel. She became their head chef for many years. The money was enough that she was able to move both of her parents to Aunt Marge’s large countryside house.
After the death of Aunt Marge, and her parents getting older – Elyse slowed her own life down. While the hotel provided a lot of good money, it was becoming a bit too corporate. The people were loud, and demanding, and the sounds of the city brought no joy. So, she left – going on to create a small catering company from the small kitchen of her flat.
In her so-called awakening, Elyse found herself with more love to give. Not just for herself, but for another person. Since the romantic route was a no-go for her, Elyse opted to adopt. Something that she swore Brandon was happier about than she was. Probably because he was an adult now, trying to find a way to escape from living with her full-time.
The adoptee came in the form of a young girl named Eva. Elyse was given a rundown by both social workers and Brandon. It took some time to convince Elyse, but once she was – she was ready to go. It didn’t take too long and Eva was now a Garnet starting in June of 2022.
Sadly, in January of 2023 – Elyse lost her mother, and then her father a month later from old age. They left a sizeable inheritance to all their children and grandchildren. But Elyse lucked out as the large country home became hers, sparking a dream idea she had forever. A countryside B&B.
The project became something that helped Elyse manage the grief she felt after losing her parents so close together. Plus, her children were more independent – Elyse needed something to occupy her time. Elyse has managed to open the B&B to start offering rooms at the beginning of October 2023. While she still feels there is more work to be done, it’s to the point where she can start allowing business to flow through.
Elyse has moved herself and her catering business to the property, leaving the Hickstead flat for Brandon and Eva to rent from her. She is slowly allowing herself to relax more, and the sound of the creek and wildlife is helping.
