overall history • Born the middle child, Lysander grew up in a loving family setting, even when his little sister was born. There was nothing his parents didn't do for their children, encouraging them. Both of his parents were constantly globe trotting with their riding careers, and naturally he and his siblings followed in their footsteps. He never strayed from the sport, even when he was diagnosed as an insulin dependent diabetic at the age of six.
While Dean and Sophie took so a singular discipline - his brother a Show Jumping man, and his sister enjoying the elegance of Dressage - Lysander couldn't just settle with either discipline, finding himself getting a high from the rush of the Cross Country course. He was always happy between the three sports and as soon as he was old enough to do solo courses he was off and never looked back.
He struggled with his school grades, not overly academically inclined - just barely getting by in his understanding as his mind was occupied with his horses and the next course that was on the planner. His parents got him tutors to help him, alongside sitting down to talk to him about his grades - only wishing for the best in him, and he agreed to pick it up a little bit more, going from D level to C and B levels which was more than enough for his parents.
He finished school with half decent grades, finished up highschool and college with average grades, not worried about getting a degree or any other training, assured his life would remain in the saddle until he had to retire from old age. He was sailing high, siting in the top five most of the time - perhaps not quite so proficient as his siblings who were always in the top three but Lysander just brushed it off as having not spent the same hours consistently jumping or perfecting movements in the saddle.
He just enjoyed it. He was twenty-three when he had his first minor accident on a course, his horse stumbling over a hedge jump, the forward momentum bring him slamming into his horse's neck as the spry gelding was bringing his head back up. He took a tumble out of the saddle, but he got up, blood streaming down his face and finished the course before allowing medics to assess the damage and 'reset' his nose as best as they could. It wasn't a great healing process, but he got over it pretty quickly.
His competition lifestyle also led to his share of one night stands and girlfriends that tried to use him for his minor fame to ascend into the higher ranks of riders. Like all of them, the girls did all the dumping - though one Lysander had to get a restraining order on because she was seemingly crazy. Otherwise, he continued on his life with ease. Right up until he was twenty-six, when little Ashley was brought into his life.
Josephine Dallen, a rival of his turned one night fling, fell pregnant to him and upon having the baby fell into serious depression and the result turned into Lysander being called in for a paternity test, and named the father of the three month old. Josephine was stricken between wanting and not wanting the baby, and Lysander was more than willinging to try and make things work, but social workers were not so sure it would work. Lysander eventually took legal action to secure full custody of the baby, and after a strenuous year, he was Ashley's sole guardian.
Returning home with a baby was a shocker for his family, but his parents were at the least glad he was taking responsibility for his son, and helped out where they could. But the struggle of balancing riding and caring for a baby took its toll and after lengthy discussion, Lysander agreed with his parents that he should give up his competitive riding career. Over the coming year Josephine attempted numerous times to visit against court orders, and it got dicey a few times. It was stressful on everyone around him, so he began looking into more drastic measures for peace.
In the best interest of his son, Lysander looked to move away from home as much as it broke his heart to do it. He found himself looking to Hickstead, it was everything he needed in a small, quiet town that had a strong equestrian tie and ample opportunities when he was once more able to get back into the saddle. After more legal juggling, Lysander moved and thus lived within Hickstead for the last six months, settling into a small two bedroom flat to raise Ashley away from the chaos.
