Her gut was right to be worried. The car slowed to a crawl, and the windows rolled down. It appeared to be someone Stephen had wronged, but she didn’t know the full extent of their history. Her body was in fight-or-flight mode, but thankfully, Stephen managed to control the situation.
Mal’s fingers gripped tightly on Stephen as she switched places. She was still conscious enough to ensure her nails weren’t leaving crescents in his skin. But she couldn’t guarantee that she wouldn’t cut off blood flow. Mal’s muscles twitched and were strained, her eyes remained forward, silence between the two.
They only made it so far when the car stopped on the sidewalk and it looked like they had company waiting. Mal couldn’t even let out a breath before she felt one of the creeps stroking her arm. “I wonder if the carpet matches the drapes,” he sneered. In reflex from training, Mal kicked the guy in the shin with her heel. Then, when he faltered from the pain – Mal jammed her palm up his nose. She was taken aback about the impact, as the smell of iron graced the air.
“Stephen, we need to go!” She began walking backward but was stopped by closing in footsteps.
She was pleased that Teddy walked over. Maybe they needed to have a weird trauma bonding moment, but it was a bit of an unspoken one. The two had both been surprised when Ida just flat-out disappeared. No one knew what was going on, and the two had allowed themselves to be a bit of a distraction for each other.
“I wish I could go home!” Mal laughed. “I unfortunately must work a bit at the hospital, but I have some time to see my family in a few weeks. How are you doing?” she asked, knowing his answer would be a bit of a lie. “Have you been roaming around a bit or did you just get here?”
Mal needed a pick me up. She had been a bit emotionally drained from work and also her love life. Stephen was becoming distant again. It was like a vicious cycle and she didn't know why.
The fair was starting now and that was the perfect distraction. Most of her friends were bust and gone for the summer but Mal wasn't against doing things on her own.
Making sure she had slathered her skin in sunscreen and had her wife brimmed hat, Mal drove to the grounds. It was already getting packed, but she was attending the first weekend as well. So it was bound to be busy.
As she was waiting to get stamped and banded, her eyes noticed a familiar face. The former boyfriend of her missing friend, Ida. “Teddy!” Mal called out. “Over here!” Maybe she wouldn't be adventuring by herself for too long today.
Mal was thankful that a date night was finally here for her and Stephen. Not that the ice cream dates, walks, and all that weren’t bad. But being able to dress up and go out at night on the town. It was a nice restaurant and Mal was happy. Her belly was full, and she was looking forward to lounging before stripping each other as a post-dinner workout.
“Yeah, their servings were quite decent for an upscale place!” she smiled. “I guess we may need to break in and get their recipes,” Mal added. She had gotten the lamb medallions over a pickled mint salad. It was divine, indeed.
After they left, Mal took hold of Stephen’s hand, her heels clicking on the sidewalk. “Maybe Dino’s? I’m sure by the time we get there, we’ll have room for a slab of cheesecake!” As they continued to walk, her ears picked up the sound of a car slowing down. It made her skin shiver. Out of instinct, Mal found her pace picking up – even though her hand was locked with Stephen’s.
full name • Maëlle Natasha Garnier-Orchidaceae nicknames • Mal, Nat, mom (friends only) age • 22 birthday • June 14, 2000 occupation • Pediatric nursing student, receptionist gender • female (she/her) sexuality • pansexual
the appearance
face claim• Luca Hollestelle
identifying features• Maëlle is taller than average at 5'-8". She has a slender figure, making her appear floating across the dance floor when she does a ballroom routine. Her skin is fair and speckled in freckles, something she is very careful about protecting in the summer. Maëlle's hair is one of her defining features. She has stunning natural coppery hair that compliments her fair skin and kind, brown eyes. Maëlle loves her freckles and rarely wears foundation. If she does wear makeup, it's eye makeup, lip, and maybe a light blush. Her personal style is considered ethereal and a bit cottage core, with a lot of soft tones and floral prints.
the personality
likes • ballroom dancing, chocolate, coffee, yoga, winter, horses, long walks, romance books dislikes • pop and hip hop music, motorcycles, boats and roller coasters (motion sick), diet soda strengths • child care, ballroom dancing, calm demeanor, meditation, fluent in French and Dutch weaknesses • sports (especially long-distance running), staying up past midnight (more of a morning person), saying no dreams • become a nurse practitioner fears • losing her friends or more of her siblings overall personality • Fitting her nickname from her friend group, Maëlle is a motherly type – without smothering or being a helicopter parent. She cares for them and is often the mediator when internal drama pops up. When one of them is sick, she’s the first one there with chicken noodles. While her friends, Ambrosius and Lucia, are also the caring types – they usually aren’t the most approachable.
Maëlle is a sweet, charitable person. It's one of her faults, as she has a hard time saying no when someone needs help. With her job now, it has helped her to say no – as she refuses to be late to work or class. Despite her popularity and kindness, Maëlle still struggles internally. She hasn’t really allowed herself to process her brother’s death – as she was busy taking care of her parent's and siblings' needs over hers.
She’s a dedicated student and people pleaser, as she takes her choice of field seriously. Maëlle does know how to have fun and be a bit flirty when she wants. She can be a bit of a minx and sexual figure when she’s dancing, catching the eyes of both genders. Maëlle won't openly admit it, but she likes the attention and ogling eyes. Sometimes if she’s lucky with time, will spend the evening with someone – much to the chagrin of Lucia.

Next to her twin brother, she is the oldest child of five siblings. Growing up, the household was a loving, comfortable space. Her parents never restricted their children’s interests, unless it was something that pertained to harming themselves or others. Sports and hobbies were always encouraged.
While her other siblings were more about mechanics, science, and sports – Maëlle opted to stay home and hide away in her room. She loved reading and creating her own little world. Maëlle hadn’t gotten into ballroom dancing until she was older, around fifteen. It was mainly due to the fact a lot of her new friends had shown interest in learning, and Malle didn’t want to feel left out. Plus, fencing wasn’t exactly her forte.
Her love of nursing happened after binge-watching Call the Midwife. While Maëlle didn’t think being a midwife was her calling, being a nurse felt like her. It fit her motherly, and caring instincts – traits she had picked up helping look after her siblings and countless cousins.
Maëlle and her group of friends, became thick as thieves – leading to the group moving to Hickstead for University. They all managed to find their majors, something that made Maëlle nervous. Thankfully, their nursing program had a good reputation – making her decision to follow her friends easier than she thought.
In the summer between her junior and senior year, Maëlle and her family lost her twin brother, Philip shortly after their 22nd birthday. He was riding his motorcycle when he lost control during a freak rainstorm. Philip was declared gone on the scene. The loss of her twin almost made Maëlle not return right away for her senior year. To this day, she absolutely refuses to get on or near a motorcycle. Not wanting to lose anyone else, Maëlle has become even more motherly towards her friends.
Maëlle is pushing through her last year, still suffering from the loss of Philip. She’s hoping to finish strong before more of her clinical start. Wanting to earn some income for herself and her family at home, Maëlle is working at the hospital as a receptionist. The extra work and studies have limited some of the time she has with her friends, but she still carves time out for them. ¬
