the appearance
face claim• lauren german.
identifying features• what's on the outside doesn't really reflect how she is on the inside. she loves surprising people by the contrast in her personality to her appearance. she's blonde, she's slight and she's feminine. but when she opens her mouth, she's intelligent, blunt and has a vocabulary that would make even the hardest sailor blush. she has three moods, casual, work and dressed up to the nines. her favoured styles are jeans, boots and work shirts because it means she's ready for anything and while she detests getting trussed up, she knows that sometimes it's part of the job, she needs to be able to bet her eyelids at rich investors, so they throw money at her different charities she's a part of.
the personality
likes • animals, a challenge, taking the piss, making the vein in her ex's forehead pulse, her children, fast cars, fancy alcohol, well-worn boots, overalls, a tidy house, her dogs, potato crisps, anything sweet, taking a million photos of her family and pets, reality tv shows. dislikes • tracking mud into the house, when her children argue with her, seeing the people she loves hurt, william's job, losing an animal at work, snakes (she handles them, she just doesn't like them), romance movies, being underestimated. strengths • her affinity with animals, her mouth. weaknesses • her inability to let stuff go, her mouth. dreams • that her children grow up to be well adjusted and decent members of society. fears • waking up with her family gone. overall personality • confident | she's needed to be. even when she was at her most insecure, she's needed to put on a front that she's the most confident. she learned from a young age that she needed to be the most self-assured person in a room because no one else was going to be. she works in an industry where people were used to men, they doubt her ability to handle the large animals she works with, and she's had to fight against old vets who think her place is in a clinic with fluffy cats and puppies.
hard working | her work ethic knows no bounds. she'll get caught up in her job so much so that she forgets all else, which leaves her feeling guilty about spending time away from her family but it's who she is. she's going to go the extra mile to save whatever animal she's treating, be it someone's childhood pony, a racehorse worth million or any of the exotic animals that educate people at the local zoo, she'll go above and beyond for any animal and she's not about to change that.
blunt | what comes out of her mouth is what she means. she doesn't mess around trying to spare feelings. the only people she's ever pulled her punches with are her children and only when it was really needed. as they've grown up, she's been as honest with them as possible, telling them the truth from the start and letting them draw their own conclusions. she doesn't care if someone gets their feelings hurt by her opinions and thoughts and she never will.
loving | despite her bluntness, she loves hard, she loves deeply, and she loves fiercely. her children are her world and she'll do anything she can for them. she still loves her ex-husband even though they're divorced because he was a big part of her life. she's not what one would call comforting, but she makes sure people know she's there for them. she shows up, she's there when they need her, and she won't walk away.
fearless | now this isn't to say she doesn't get scared sometimes because she does. but she's fearless in the fact she'll take the chances that are given to her. she'll jump in feet first and worry about the fall later. it's how she's always lived her life and it's why she is where she is now. it's why she has her family, her job and her success. she doesn't ever want to feel like she's sitting on the sidelines of life.

BLAKELY AISLA ROSCOE , 15, daughter, student. tanner roscoe, 13, son, student. hometown • glasgow, scotland. overall history •cate has been a afforded a life she knows that she's lucky to have. it hasn't been perfect, but she knows how blessed she was. her parents, welcomed her into their family with open arms even though they weren't really planning on having children. they were both hard working individuals, both focused on their careers and each other and they hadn't been sure how a baby would fit into their lifestyle but along came cate and she fitted in better than they could have dreamed of. her both of her parents were vets. travelling the world to treat different animals wherever the need was. she spent her childhood watching her parents work with lions in africa and elephants in asia. she fell in love with the animals they worked with, cried when they didn't make it and rejoiced when they did. she lived this exciting life of travel and distant places until she was eleven. her mother, forced to retire from her work due to an injury she received while working. so, her parents made the heart wrenching choice to move back to the united kingdom where her father could open up his own practice and they could live a life of stability. that didn't mean they stopped travelling, oh no. the holidays continued, they just had to come home at the end of them rather than going to explore new worlds.
it took cate some time to settle into living in one place again, going to the same school and having the same people around her but eventually she did. she started to thrive where she was, enjoying school and getting into sports that kept her pretty bust during the weeks. though when she was fourteen, she met what she would call from day one as 'the man she was going to marry'. and eventually, marry him she would. despite the doubt, the worries and the comments people couldn't keep to themselves about how they didn't like the relationship, cate and will got engaged while in university. her parents chided her, told her that he didn't have many prospects in life, but she ignored them. they'd raised her to make her own choices and she was. she was happy with him in her life, loved coming home to him and loved spending every moment she could with him. of course, life likes to throw little curveballs and they were soon blessed with a daughter. for a while cate struggled with handling motherhood and keeping up with her studies but will was there for her, he took care of their daughter as much as he could and soon, they settled into life with the three of them.
when she graduated, she couldn't help but want to take her studies further. so, after talking it over with will she stayed in school so she could become the vet she is today. while undertaking these studies, life threw in another curveball in the form of their baby boy but by now they were old hands at juggling parenting duties adding a second child to the mix wasn't as scary as they'd first though. the time finally came for them to say i do and she couldn't have been happier on the day. her daughter walking down the aisle towards her, the flowers she'd been given been thrown straight down onto the aisle rather than around the space, her son safe in his father's arms as her two boys walked towards her and by the end of the night she was as content as she could have been. but marital bliss never lasts long. things were thrown up in the air when will was stabbed at work, resulting him her being terrified she was going to lose him so soon into their marriage.
she stood by him while he recovered, helping with what he needed and trying to let him know that he was the man she'd married throughout the whole thing, she doesn't know if he believed her or not, but she needed to tell him that. she'd seen what it had done to her mother when she'd been forced to retire early. from then on life was never easy but it wasn't bad either. both her and will pressed forward in their careers, raised their kids and lived relatively happy lives. until the fractures started to show through, those little allowances they made each other that never really got resolved, the unspoken feelings and the nights they went to bed facing away from each other because they refused to tell each other how they were really feeling.
the straw that broke the camel's back, or their marriage's back, was the last injury he sustained while they were married. she was terrified through the whole month he was in a coma that she'd lose him, but even though he woke up, she lost him anyway. she couldn't do it anymore. she couldn't watch her children panic over their father being in hospital, she couldn't sit by his bed any more willing him to wake up or hold his hand while he had holes patched up, things pulled out of him and his life saved because he'd been protecting people who in her mind, weren't as important as he was. doctors told him he should change careers and she tried to encourage him to do that too. to leave the job that had left them where they were, but he refused. she'd thrown divorce into the argument, not knowing where it had come from but once the words were out there it felt like the right choice to her.
the divorce was the hardest thing she'd ever done but she knew it was the right choice in the end. they weren't mean to each other, neither of them wanted to hurt the other but she knew she was. she was the one walking away from him, but she needed to. for her own sanity she needed to. she got the kids, but she made sure they always had access to will. there was never a weekend they couldn't go, if he called and wanted them for something she only said no if it wasn't possible and she even went as far as to move to be closer to him when he got a job protecting someone in hickstead. she didn't want her kids to be that far away from their father. it was a move that would ultimately cause trouble in their family, in the shape of their teenage daughter who hated the small town, but it was a blessing when their son started to thrive better than he ever had.
she took up a job working at the local vet's office, taking on the livestock clients and the exotic animals that live at the zoo, she cares for them when they need her. she's settling into life in town and hopes that the country air will be better for her kids, and she also hopes that the slower pace of the town will mean that will won't have to face the dangers he did in his last job. she knows that even though she's separated from him, she'd still help him if he needed her. because she still loves him deeply, she just can't be with him anymore.
