Shecanna smiled as she looked at herself in the mirror. She was dressed cutely or at least less pants than usual. A dress hadn't graced her body in a long while, but her figure was still lean and looked nicely under the satin. Long blonde hair was in a bouncy blow out and her face had some but still minimal natural looking makeup. Maybe it was a bit much for a so-called first date. Even though the two had seen each other plenty of times, this felt like the first real thing. Her prosthetics were on full show as well, but she didn't care.
She was smart and opted for a lyft to the lounge. After spotting her sister from afar at the barn, Shecanna needed a moment to let loose. And why not do it with a very attractive man? Shecanna arrived and was greeted by a well dressed hostess. “I have a reservation for two,” she smiled and the hostess expertly looked over the booking, using the information Shecanna gave her. The young woman gave a nod and led Shecanna to the booth. It was near the piano stage, but still far enough to enjoy conversation.
Shecanna shed her overcoat and hung it on the hook that was on the side of the booth before taking a seat. She texted Elliot that she had their table and was okay waiting, knowing that working a construction site gave him a reason to shower and get ready longer than normal. So, she enjoyed the soft jazz that poured out of the piano - glancing over the drink menu.
“Oh? Well, I’ll try not to disappoint you the next time,” she smiled, handing him a bottle of water and snacks. The way he washed his face, Shecanna felt like a teenage girl. The way the water dribbled down his chin. It was like one of those 90s posters of the attractive men she used to gush over.
She opened her water bottle and took a sip. Knowing full well she wasn’t exactly looking for sex pot. But, Shecanna knew the man probably had an imagination for that sort of thing. At least her arms were exposed, so there was some kind of definition that was there. If Elliot was into that kind of thing.
“Only if you’d like me to,” Shecanna replied, a bit cheekily. “I’m sure my employees would be happy to have their freedom from me, anyway,” she added, opening up a small packet of Oreo cookies. Call her child, but she needed that sugar kick. “But I will happily bug you later with a cold beer if you’d prefer?” That was probably the most brave Shecanna had been with any kind of offer. But she couldn’t help but shoot her shot.
“it just means he’s comfortable here.” At least, that was what Shecanna liked to think. Horses were like people in the aspect of knowing who they liked and didn’t like. There was something about seeing them get along and play, though. Granted, it made things like rounding up a bit harder. If anything, it forced their owners to come in earlier than normal just so they could get their horses ready in time for lessons. Depending on the teacher, there appeared to be some leeway. “Well, I was planning on riding – but I guess my eyes for work just never seem to escape me! Thankfully, it’s nothing too major. But it I’ll mark it just in case.” Even though she never seemed to have everything she needed on her – Shecanna at least always had something in hand to mark an issue.
She pulled out a streamer that was safety orange colored and tied it around the issue. “My horse is Millie. She’s a bay, Morgan. While not one to run around too much, she does tend to like the farthest part of the pasture!”
Shecanan swore all the fencing would be done by now, but what did she know? There seemed to be a forever-growing list of things to do during spring into fall. Winter wasn’t that easy, either – just annoying with everything freezing. But working in the blazing sun felt better than freezing her real leg off.
She was busy elsewhere with Dublin, having Nat show the overhire where to head. Shecanna didn’t know who it was, but secretly hoped it was Tempe’s very attractive cousin. While she didn’t know what Elliot’s work ethic was, Shecanna didn’t have a doubt that he was also a hard worker. The Scott family was known for their good work.
After some grueling hours, she told everyone on her team to take a break. Dublin offered to break the overhire, but Shecanna insisted she would do it herself since she was headed that way anyway. She caught that glance that Dublin had given her. Though she kind of gave him the same back when he said he was headed to the main office.
Shecanna grabbed extra water and snacks and headed out towards the fence line. She was surprised and pleasantly turned on by the figure she saw ahead of her. Glistening muscles, dripping in sweat. Shecanna felt a bit naughty, thinking she should pay Elliot for the show he was unintentionally giving her.
“It’s me, Shecanna,” she announced approaching him from behind him. “If I had known it was you helping us out, I would’ve made sure I was here to supervise,” she added with a flirtatious smile. “We’re on break now. I brought some extra water and snacks if you’d like some.”
“Well, horses have to keep us on our toes, right? Or they’re standing on them and breaking them,” she laughed. Okay, maybe that wasn’t the best joke, but it was true, at least. There were a few times she had to get her fake foot fixed because a horse stepped on her toes. She only knew when she felt some weird jostling in her boot. Thankfully no physical pain, only the pain of knowing how her wallet would feel.
“Nice to meet you, Gideon! Quite a trek you did. I’m Shecanna, head groundskeeper. Welcome to Blue Acres,” Shecanna replied, giving the man a firm handshake. “Well, it really depends on if he attempts to jump fencing or not. Not a lot of places to hide in this one, but you may be getting in a workout. Do you have enough treats? Or should I get some extra?”
Shecanna hadn’t planned to ride Millie today, but here she was – making her way towards the pastures. It was her lunch break, so she could do what she needed. But knowing her would be eyeing the fencing – marking things with flags if needed.
Her black morgan was probably going on a trip to catch as Millie loved winter. There was something about the cold and the snow that the mare loved to prance about in. It was one of the reasons why it was hard to bring her in for a groom or checkup. But the mare knew that her owner was kind, and wanted to please her. After all, Shecanna did her best.
Shecanna walked, okay maybe hobbled a bit, over to the pastures. Her leg had been a bit itchy, so it was rubbing a bit weirdly. Didn’t help that the weather had been drying out her skin, either.
Her eyes caught a glance of a fencing crossbar that looked like it was about to snap. She grumbled to herself and walked over. As she was digging through her coat jacket to grab an orange tie, Shecanna couldn’t help but smile at another rider who was trying to get his horse in. “Being hard to catch, are they? It seems to be the theme for today!” Shecanna commented, with a polite smile.

the history

There wasn’t a day that a person with a camera was following the family around. As the daughter of a well-known CEO and Olympia, Shecanna was pushed to her limits to make her parents proud.
While her brother and sister were the golden children, following horse riding and money-making like their parents – Shecanna wanted to break from that life. Running was her calling, as she found the freedom of it refreshing. While she wanted to do track and marathons, her father guilted her out of continuing track in school. She was forced to attend riding school to follow in her mother’s footsteps, as she would be written out of the will if she didn’t. Not wanting to lose her possible inheritance, Shecanna did as she was told.
She excelled in the sport, especially cross country jumping, the same thing her mother entered the Olympics in. During her riding days, she ended up doing things she shouldn’t have. Enhancers and near abusive training were involved for her and her horses, something her parents paid hush money for. They didn’t care about her happiness or the health of her horses.
During a day at the barn, a barn fire happened from a careless smoker. Shecanna was stuck in the barn, as a beam had caught her left leg, breaking it past any kind of surgical reconstruction. It ended her career, prompting her parents to hide the fact they had a middle child.
Recovery was hard and being shunned from the family – Shecanna was a lost soul. Her grandparents took her in, helping her recover in their home in the town of Hickstead. The silence and slower pace of life were welcomed. During her time in Hickstead, she reconnected with a rival turned friend, Naomi Clark.
When her grandparents died, she inherited their hidden wealth. A secret not known to her parents or siblings, as they had received some family land up north. But Shecanna landed the house on Oldaker and assets that would keep her set until her death. But being the hard worker she was, she asked Naomi for some work – landing her a position as a groundskeeper and horse exerciser.
Shecanna hopes to get back into competitive riding, but with the trauma – she doubts she ever could. She enjoys riding her Morgan, Millie, on the trails and practicing. Shecanna takes life day by day, trying to slow down.
