Vi was in her world, the rhythm of the waves lulling her. It took her a moment for the reality of Stephen standing there and talking to her. She turned her head and used a hand to control the hair that was still dancing about. A smile crossed her lips. “You're late,” she teased. In reality she was probably early.
“Well, I hope you make up for it by buying me an ice cream sundae. How are you holding up?” Violet inquired. While the day was about celebration, she still wanted to make sure he was okay. A fight was never easy, and the adrenaline rush was always a hard crash. her eye clocked the bandaged hand. Stephen really did get into some damage. More than he initially let on. He looked tired, but still put together. More rough than the first time they met.
Violet looked over the water of the pier, happy to see the waves come crashing over the pebbles and hitting the worn-down wood. After what felt like weeks of planning, Stephen and Violet were able to nail down a time and date to get fish and chips. It was also a belated birthday celebration for Vi. She wasn’t expecting anything to happen, or for anyone to remember, but her boss, Kegan, had managed to throw her a shindig at the ranch. A cake and a milkshake bar. Even a card with a gift. Her parents sent her tickets to a concert, which vi happily dragged Perdi to.
She had considered what to wear for today’s excursion. Cute? Jeans? Violet didn’t know why she was considering all the effort, as she wasn’t here to impress Stephen. Her crush unfortunately was in a relationship and had been for a year now. She was happy for him, but it still kind of broke her. It took all her willpower not to go barreling into the city when she caught wind about what happened to Stephen and his girlfriend, Mal – a few weeks ago.
Looking a bit defeated, Violet chose something casual, but a bit nicer than usual. If Stephen wouldn’t look at her that way, she was sure she would get someone to look at her. Violet waited patiently, leaning on the railing – her long black hair following the wind patterns. She told herself to have fun, and she would make sure of it.
Well, it was doomsday. Not really, but it felt like it. Everyone on the ranch was on edge now and nobody could blame them. The ranch was up for sale. What would happen to them? What would happen to the animals? Work still had to be done, but it was hard to focus. Violet, a diligent rider- was so up in her head - she almost missed a cue.
Thankfully, the workday was over, and the cattle were in their rightful pasture for the time being. She sat on the porch near the main building, legs pulled up to her chest as she rocked back and forth in the white swing. A glass of lemonade with strawberries in it sat on a coaster next to her.
She considered texting her parents about everything but opted to see if anyone would join her in her mourning. Better to be prepared for dissatisfaction, right? At least the weather of the day made things a bit more tolerable.
It's the Blue Bird Cafe. Are you going to go all Journalist PI on them?
I mean, I would rather hear you rant versus being mooed at by the cows or Bovi begging for treats lmao. But we could def get some ice cream after if you want?
