it was after about the third song that seemed to make the walls of her dorm shake that she dropped her pen with a frustrated sigh and she cast her eyes to the door. her room mate had told her about a party that was happening down the hall, a party she knew that ace would have no interest in going to but she'd asked to be friendly, ace had appreciated that but she didn't appreciate the whole dorm being put out because some rich bitch wanted to party the night away. she brushed her hand through her hair as she stood up, unable to focus on anything but the base that was almost nauseating with it's beat. sure, she understood the need to party but there were a hundred other places that one could go and participate in this silly right of passage. the paper she was writing was a big chunk of her grade and she needed to concentrate, that's why she was here. to learn and pass. she walked out of the door and let it slam behind her as she almost stomped, with grace, down the hall towards where the party was happening. the closer she got, the more people she passed. it seemed like most people in the building were here. she shouldered her way past a couple making out in the doorway and resisted the urge to cover her ears. she wasn't there to make nice, she wasn't there to start a fight. all she was going to do was make whatever source was playing the music ... unable to play the music anymore.

on the inside though she's an anxious wreck. the pressure her parents put on her to make something of herself makes her panic about her grades not being good enough, she hides the sleepless nights through her cheery disposition and by taking the focus off her and onto other people's troubles. she doubts her ability to just about anything and has spent many nights curled around her pillow trying to talk herself down from the edge. she struggles to figure out if people actually like her or if they're just pretending too. all in all she's a nervous bundle of energy wrapped in a layer of protective sunshine.
the history
father • mackenzie longshore, 48, farmer. mother • arlette longshore, 45, former model. siblings • killian longshore, 23, brother. important people • none. hometown • hickstead, england. overall history • her parents love story is something of an unusual one. her mother, a model visiting from brazil and her father, plucked off the streets of london, took part in a photoshoot designed to tell the men of england that they too could bag themselves an exotic beauty if they sprayed themselves with bang body spray. needless to say that the product didn't last long but the love affair it had spurred between mac and arlette would be one to rival the ages. it was a long distance affair for a few years as mac worked his families farm and arlette travelled the world trying to make her mark but never quite getting there. the long distance relationship ended when arlette found out she was pregnant after one of her trips to london, her and mac talked about it and they agreed that it would be best if she moved in with him, had the baby and then she could continue modelling around the uk. of course life rarely goes as you plan, so after the birth of her older brother arlette didn't feel the call to go back to modelling, happy enough to live the life of a housewife so she could raise her son and then eventually ace when she joined the trio.
it was clear from the start though that her parents wanted more for their children than what they had. while mac and arlette had a decent life, they knew there were better things out there than relying on looks and family to support yourself. so they pushed their kids into education as soon as they could, something arlette felt she had missed out on and something mac had been too childish to understand was important while he'd been growing up. so as soon as they could they were enrolled in programs to help them learn, to teach them skills to help them get ahead and to give them advantages their parents thought they needed.
truth be told from the moment she was old enough to understand it, ace would have been happy with the life her parents had. they loved each other, there was a house full of laughter and light. there weren't riches but there was enough and she aspired to have just what they had. until it was drilled into her that it was never enough. her father despised the fact he couldn't buy his wife the life he thought she deserved and her mother hated the fact he felt that way. it was one of their driving forced behind pushing their children, neither of them ever wanted their kids to be sorry about how they lived.
which is what followed ace all through school. no matter the grad it was never enough, no matter the score in a sports game she'd never scored enough goals or blocked enough passes. the win wasn't ever good enough because it was never enough. there was always something to improve on and it ate her up inside when she couldn't do more. it was how she lived through her younger years and through her teenage years. she strived for more, there was no level to reach because she's always been taught to reach for higher than she was. her parents were thrilled when she got into university and decided to study medicine. it was where her interests lay and she'd always loved learning about the body and anatomy and biology in school.
so she moved from the farm, from her home and into the dorms on campus and she thrived because there was so much competition around. there was always a level to reach for because there was always someone with a better grade or more ability than her so she had something to strive for. the mental toll it started taking on her was something she did her best to hide, it wasn't something that could help her climb higher so she pushed it down, ignored it until she could let herself get lost in it. then the next day would come and she'd pick herself up and start the cycle again.
