overall personality • Shaun has a very black and white view on life, and has little concept of grey areas, making it hard to deal with his views and how he deals with the world - it's not to say he cannot be reasoned with in some ways, that would make him a bit of a hypocrite, but it takes some doing. You are either with him or against him and hell better being your ally if you are not on his side. He is a man with a tarnished heart of gold, moving Heaven and Hell to achieve his goals to help his family. He cannot abide by laziness, having been in a family that came from very little and with a checkered family history. He holds his name as a Breckah up high, and he will not allow the name to be dragged through the mud, which means his own sons have a lot to live up to.

overall history • Shaun was the second child to be born in to a large family - growing up around his many cousins, aunts and uncles. It was a good family despite having so little at the time. There was amble singing and dancing and family time, even as Shaun got more siblings over time. His father was a strict man, enforcing the kids to be polite without taking bullshit, to be able to defend themselves but also be gentlemen. It was a unique lifestyle, but Shaun wouldn't have changed it for anything. His school life was solid, decent grades, enjoying a certain degree of popularity. Outside of school, his father encouraged his sons to box for sport and even relented to allow Elaene to partake but she wasn't as enthused about hitting others, so it was short lived. When he wasn't boxing, his father taught them how to play the bango - something that Shaun took great interest in.
He was protective of his sister, as were all the Breckah boys, and if a boy even so much as teased her the five of them would immediately give that boy a lesson to never forget. Into his teenage years, Shaun dated his share of girls, and even a few boys - though his father was less than pleased with it, trying to beat that out of him with harsh training, but Shaun never changed his views or interests, he just made sure to keep those moments to himself and out of the light of day so his family didn't go back and rat on him. Those few flings ultimately never lasted, and when he met Tracy in college, it was game over. She was the one for him.
It took him almost a year to win her over, and after that the rest was history. They married shortly before discovering they were already expecting their first child, and even though Shaun's parents believed things were moving too fast, he dismissed them. They were happy and they would make things work. When the time came, it was a surprise that it was in fact twins, but the happiness of the moment was severely dulled hours later. A boy and a girl, all was so precious until their daughter stopped responding. Nurses and doctors came rushing to the sound of Shaun's yelling, but there was nothing they could do. He was devastated to say the least - his daughter not even a few hours old was already taken from them. It was devastating news that rattled their families, and they were on tender hooks with their son expecting him to be snatched away from them too, but thankfully that was not the case. They held a small funeral for their daughter and agreed not to tell their son about the ordeal, lest he feel guilt for something out of his control.
They hadn't planned for further children after that, focusing on work and loving their son with all they had. So when baby two was officially caught by the doctor, they were a little uncertain if it was right, but neither could bring themselves to make the other more painful choice. Of course Shaun's family were certain that the child would only bring disaster upon the young couple, and stray comments his own brothers made only served to make him see red. There were many fights, verbal and physical to be had with his own siblings over their choices, and even Tracy's family made crude comments about how they wouldn't handle it. The fall out was huge between all sides, and Shaun promised he would make things work.
He worked side jobs and started fighting in the local weekend fights to earn money and work out his emotions on someone who was just there for the fun of it. Within twelve months and another kid in the mix, he found an agent that was willing to take him far, but they would have to move to England, as the fights in Ireland were limited. It meant having to pack up and move to England where the fights were a lot more regular and had a better chance of getting him somewhere. It took them a two weeks to finally come to the conclusion that it would be worth it, and it would get their kids away from their families. It meant a lot of prep, but word got out, as it always did. His family tried to discourage the idea, but Shaun had made up his mind and Tracy was also just as strong minded that the change would be for the better.
Packing up, they moved to England. They moved into a decently sized, affordable apartment in Manchester, and six months later moved to Birmingham to a nicer area. It was easier then for Shaun to travel for work, and over all, life was smooth. Between organised fights and training, Shaun doted on his sons no matter how sore or bruised he was, there was never enough time for them in his eyes, they were his pride and joy - then next generation of the Breckah name.
Money was tight at times, and with the later arrival their third and fourth child, Shaun knew that things would get hard on them. But he vowed to make things work, and work he did to provide. Working spare jobs where he could get them, and staying home when his wife gained extra hours. It led to their share of arguments and overdue bills, but no matter what, Shaun always made things work. They made sure that the boys never saw them fighting, not willing to ruin their childhood with nights spent screaming at each other and saying hateful things. They had to make things work, even if that meant Shaun skipped a few meals a week to let his growing family eat, then so be it. And finally he hit it big in MMA, getting higher paid fights that helped ease their burdens. The years went by smoothly enough, the pay slowly increasing, giving them breathing room, right up until baby number five.
Having already four kids, they tried several methods to prevent the accidental child after a night of celebration and down time, but alas it was not to be. Baby number five pulled the breathing space close and whilst Shaun still loved their new son, he was mildly disappointed that it was not a girl. He loved his kids, but both himself and his wife wished to have a little girl in their lives, but they had another boy and they accepted that it was their lot in life. The apartment was crowded with five kids and two adults, and the noise drew complaints from neighbors but they were never kicked out.
And then baby six, it was the straw that forced them to move into Hickstead. Tracy admittedly missed the Irish landscape and wanted the boys to have a yard to play in and room to breath again, so the search came and went within three months, having to take a loan out to buy a decent sized house for their kids. It meant they would have to work harder, but seeing the boys light up at the prospect of having a yard to run around in and not having to wait to go to a park was worth the headaches and strain. Officially settled in, Shaun's career continued, and he watched his wife wildly loving life, looking as bright and beautiful as they day he first met her. He made sure to shower her with affection, she was his light, his world, the only thing he needed that kept him grounded at all times.
Even when babies seven and eight came to be, he was content with the world. He scrapped and saved where he could, managing to take the kids over to Ireland a few times to meet with family before Christmas, to prove he could make it without the massive numbers of the rest of his clan. He didn't need them to support him, and had much satisfaction to hear that his older brothers were back living at home with his parents after their wives left them for kinder men. He couldn't always get enough money together to go home and see his family, or to drag the kids with them all the way over, so they compromised with sending family photos and using Face Time to speak with his family. He managed a few trips out with the family, getting the kids to meet their aunts, uncles, cousins and grand-parents on both sides. It was chaos with eight kids, but Shaun wouldn't have changed it, even with some of things that went wrong.
He taught the boys to box and defend themselves, much like his father did. He let them fight out their issues, made sure to chip them on their manners, raised them not to hit any woman - good children, save for one. Tracy didn't like the boys to fight, but Shaun always brushed it off. Bruises and scrapes would heal, and the world was not so kind, so they needed to be able to deal with whatever came their way. Jace however broke the mould and put wrinkles in an otherwise fine family, even Tracy conceded that their son was not like they were used to, but Shaun was certain that time would straighten the boy out. He was sorely disappointed. Where the other boys would do as they were told and at the very least try different things, Jace was the son that pushed his buttons and caused all manner of fights over stupid things.
He tried to get him to box but there was nothing behind those dark eyes that would suggest he would actually try, and Shaun gave up trying after a while. Life was crazy, but it was interesting. If the boys mucked up, Shaun was there with Tracy telling them off and telling them why they were wrong. Shaun wasn't the best however for emotional stuff - he was so used to leaving his emotions out of things that when the boys cried over nothing or because a kid bullied them, it was more up to Tracy to console them and get them back on track as their little warriors. Shaun was more... flippant and harsh - a get over it, it's just words, sort of mentality. Years went by and with all their ups and downs, the sheer amount of corrections were significantly lowered by their teenage years, and on a few occasions did one of the boys stand up and try to be the bigger man of the house, only for Shaun to humble them with an ass kicking and grounding.
As the boys got into their own hobbies, Shaun let them slide on conditions that they helped out a little more, went to school and caused no issues and their hobbies would be their own - after all, he recognised that boxing was not always going to be something that would be shared. He just hoped that one of his kids would continue that tradition. Such was life. His fighting career was ended after severely dislocating his left shoulder, tearing muscles that - whilst they would heal - would leave him weakened and far less powerful. That was six months ago, the decision driving him to smoke. He did rehab as needed, and whilst his shoulder at times gives him hell, he never complains or mentions it.
Life however went spiraling out of control recently when his wife took a heart attack and crashed into oncoming traffic. Shaun was rattled and broken, his world, his light, no longer coming home to greet him and their kids. He argued with the cops, and broke for the first time when it came time to saying good bye. Now widowed, Shaun is still not right. He drinks every night to blank out point and is far more temperamental than he's ever been. He's more harsh, more strict, he fights with Jace constantly and even has moments were he has snapped at his younger and older kids. He apologizes afterwards, but Shaun is left feeling hollow, like his heart was taken to the grave with Tracy, his girl.
