f course, Rhys, darling. I’ll have something set up for you.” Esther took in Huntley. He was tall, and well-built – like his father when he was younger. But Huntley also had the features of his mother, like a solid 50-50 of his parents. She gave him a soft smile and nodded, when he inquired about the dogs.
“Max, Arthur..sit.” The poodles quickly sat waiting for pets. Even if Esther hadn’t commanded it, they would have still sat. They were good guard dogs in certain situations., mainly if she commanded something in German. “It’s nice to meet you as an adult, Huntley! No issue at all, it’ll be nice to have someone else that isn’t a ghost,” she teased. “I’m sure you’re exhausted from the ride. Do you need some food first or a drink? Or do you want me to show you your room first?”

sther was surprised when a member of the family reached out about their son moving in with her. Maybe she had complained too much about it? Either way, she wasn’t about to say no either. She was indeed lonely, and with her brother traveling for work – Esther needed someone.
She had cleaned and organized a guest room, making it less of her personal taste. And something a twenty-five-year-old could enjoy. Esther kept neutral in color, with the option to jazz it up. But they would have to deal with her personal taste outside of their personal room.
A jazz record played softly as Esther was finishing cleaning up. Her poodles barked once, signaling there was someone at the door. The older woman made her way over and peeked through the door to see the young man and his father standing there. She opened the door, to see a moving truck in her driveway. “Hello, hello,” she greeted. “Please, come on in! I did my best to make it easy to move things. Can I get you anything to drink, eat? It was a bit of a drive, no?”
Esther smiled. “Let’s see if he’s okay with a side ride, shall we?” She ignored the man’s look at her, wondering if she was about a ride in her dress – let alone ride at all. But Dorian was already saddled up for her, so why not?
The groom just shrugged and led Dorian out to one of the arenas, Esther following, not caring really where she stepped. It was a horse barn for god’s sake, she knew what she was getting into. Arthur toddled behind her, a bit more careful. A step-up block was placed and Esther sauntered up like it was a boudoir runway.
Her foot slipped into the stirrup – and Esther placed herself into the saddle. Not the usual way, but the old-fashioned way of side riding. It was an odd thing, but Dorian didn’t seem to stir. She gave him a soft pat on his neck. “Has he been ridden recently, any quirks I should know about?”
Esther investigated the Friesian’s black eyes. They looked like black sea pearls in a sheen of glass. Therefore she loved the breed. Not only stunning, but their personalities were so calm. Well, at least the ones she rode years ago. Many of them could’ve been hell in a handbasket.
“Oh, yes! Please. Arthur, can you give him a hand?” The young man nodded and followed the groom. Esther still had her hand up and when consent was given, she placed it on the horse’s cheek– fingers gently scratching the area.
Ah, the smell of horse. Esther hadn’t had the smell of barn in her nostrils in many years. While she often supported Caleb and Corey, she hadn’t ridden in ages. She still knew how, of course – like riding a bike. But she was nervous. Almost like right before she went on stage, but once it happened – it was all forgotten.
While the typical person wore riding clothes, or even casual clothing to meet their horse – Esther didn’t. She was far from typical. A Friesian, in her eyes, was a lovely horse. Gentle, glamorous. It wasn’t in good taste to get a horse just for their looks, of course, but Esther had a fondness for the magnificent. It was all she rode pretty much when she was younger.
Wanting to match the glamour, Esther rummaged through her closet and smiled and she picked out her first impression outfit. It took her a moment, but when she settled – it was not what one wore to the barn.
Of course, she could wear black – but she didn’t want to look like she was attending the funeral of her horse. Gosh no.
There was a sound on the barn floor. An untrained ear could guess it was a horse, but it wasn’t. Esther’s sleek pumps were clicking on the concrete floor, almost as if she was walking the runway. Her assistant was following her close by, ready to take Esther’s coat when needed.
Eyes landed on the older woman, and she flashed a smile with perfectly lined red lips. Esther finally locked eyes with her new friend. She walked over, one of the biggest smiles on her face. “Hello, handsome,” Esther smiled, completely ignoring the face of shock from the groom. Black velvet gloves were slipped off, revealing well-taken-care-of hands. “I do hope I made a good first impression,” Esther added – lifting up a hand to be sniffed.

the history
father • Günter, passed mother • Dolores, passed siblings • Karl (50), opera singer important people • her standard poodles hometown • Hickstead overall history • Esther was born in Hickstead to a German father and Scottish mother. The family was one of the more eccentric families, almost mimicking the Addams family. Her childhood was normal for the most part, but burlesque and adult entertainment was introduced to her and her brother at a young age. It made people stare in curiosity or disgust. If one was mad at their husband seeing someone else half nude – that was a personal issue.
Luna Lounge is considered the family heirloom, the pride, and joy of the Muller family. It’s where Esther fell in love with performance and ballet – leading her to follow her mother’s steps. When she turned 18, she was allowed to begin performing, seducing men for their money and attention. Due to her success at the lounge, Esther didn’t attend university. She did take some one-time business courses to prepare herself when the business became hers and Karl’s.
Esther developed into a lonely woman after her parent’s death a few years ago. She was close to them and is unfortunately still in deep grief. While she does see a therapist, drinking tends to be her comfort in between. With a push from Karl, Esther has been trying her best to sober up. Threatened with the loss of her livelihood and her half of the business, Esther has improved. She does sneak a drink occasionally, but one-night stands have become her new void filler.
Currently, Esther is healing. She opened her own lingerie store, attached next to the lounge where attendees can shop if they want. Karl lives in London with his husband, singing Opera. Esther lives in her family home, a dark Victorian, with her standard poodles.
