Isa had been in the foster system for a couple of years now, so in her opinion, she was an old hand at this, and the inclusion of another foster child in the mix wouldn't change anything. After all, this place wasn't like the halfway house was in in last, and while there were rules, she imagined that it would be what her home would have been like, if her and her parents hadn't spent most of their life on the road, in a horse truck.
As they got ready to go out, Isa remained quiet as they pulled on their warm clothes. She knew it was pointless trying to tell adults that she didn't need to dress as warmly as others, as she worked up her own heat when moving, so she was normally the first to start shedding clothes, as she worked up a sweat a lot faster. She gave the wagon the same look of loathing as she gave her wheelchair and created more space between herself and it.
"What do you think the new kid will be like?" She asked Julia as she swung in step beside her sister as they made their way toward the park, and then quickly looked down to make sure that her shoes matched, as she knew she had changed the one on her normal foot and was having doubts about the other, and nodded with a smile as she saw that yes, she was wearing a matching pair of walking shoes.
She offered Dahlia a smile, but remained in the background as Moses greeted the adults, taking this time to study the small boy standing with the unknown woman, her smile brightened when she heard her name and she removed her right hand from her crutch long enough to give a small wave before taking hold of it again.

Riding weaknesses • Running (for obvious reasons), hates admitting to her own dreams • To ride in the Olympics fears • letting anyone close, small spaces (them and lack of mobility don't go together well) overall personality • Isa can be a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde in the personality department, as she can flick from friendly and charming to dark and brooding in the blink of an eye. People could say that this is because of the accident, yet she's sure that it's just her.
Before the accident, Isa was really sweet and loving. Since then, she has built a firm wall between her and her heart, terrified that if she allows anyone, human or animal, into her heart, they will get hurt, just like her family and ponies.
She struggles with asking for help, and because of this, she also struggles to let people into her bubble. She thinks that when people offer their assistance, it's easier for her to see them pitying her, rather than them trying to be a good friend.
the history
father • Evan Connor, deceased mother • Irene Connor, deceased siblings • Anton Connor, deceased important people • Not really, other than her social worker, Beverly, I guess. hometown • Rome, Italy
overall history • Isa had been bitten by the horse-bug from an early age, which she supposed was because her grandmother was a showjumper, and Isa had been ringside since before she could walk, and rode in front of her grandmother from the moment she could sit up. While most girls were given dolls and prams for their second birthdays, Isa was given a spunky Welsh Pony.
Once she had grown out of the lead-rein classes, Isa took competition by the reins, and wanted to be signed up for everything! Since her parents both had well-paying jobs; Evan an accountant and Irene a prosecutor lawyer, they were happy to buy their youngest child a string of ponies, and her older brother raced bikes, so he couldn’t complain about them doting on the girl.
So she could travel long distances for shows, a tutor was hired to home-school Isa so that she didn’t miss out on the start of her schooling. It was on the journey home from one of these shows that life as she knew it changed for Isa. Not wanting to stop for the night, Evan drove the horse truck back toward Rome. The driver of a truck coming down a side road had fallen asleep, the only warning Evan got was a flash of lights before the truck hit the side of theirs.
Isa awoke in the hospital to hear that the three ponies in the truck had been shot and her beloved parents were gone forever. As well as losing her parents she had her right leg amputated below the knee.
Her twenty-one year old brother was given custody over the girl, but he blamed her for the loss of their parents and unable to handle both of their deaths and the new responsibilities that were now thrown at him, he burned the family stables down around himself, with his sisters' ponies inside.
With no family to now look after her, Isa was placed into foster care, and once she was released from hospital, she was introduced to her social worker. Gone was the happy-go-lucky girl who had been racing a horse around a cross country course and then navigating her pony skilfully over a show jumping course, now she was angry with the world. She had the death of all her family members, including her ponies, at her feet, and she wasn’t sure that anyone would be safe if they got close to her.
Isa didn’t stay in any foster home for long, she was labelled by adults as a petulant child who needed to get on with her life, and young Isa was so trapped in the past she just wanted to forget the rest of the world existed.
