was this it? was she actually going to die in a way that she could only imagine in a tv show or a movie? people didn't do this in real life. they didn't break into houses and chase people. did they? recent evidence would say they did. she felt herself shaking as she scrambled back from the tall figure in the balaclava. what had she done to him? she didn't know who he was. or did she. that thought chilled her even more as she moved away from her. did she know him? then someone else was there and she could have collapsed with relief. she didn't hear what was being said or yelled but the next thing she knew there was footsteps running past her and she slumped against the wall, resting her hands on the sides of her head as she took a breath, her whole body trembling now from the fear of what could have happened has the stranger not come along when she had.
was she hurt? she didn't think so but then again she couldn't feel anything to say she wasn't. she tried to take a few breaths and she tried to ignore the fact there were tears pricking in the corners of her eyes. no she didn't cry. she didn't cry, she hadn't cried since she was a teenager. this wasn't a reason to cry. she curled a hand into a fist lightly, digging her nails into her palm as she lifted her gaze to the stranger who had crouched down next to her. "i don't think so." she managed, suddenly aware of the fact there was a voice talking from her phone, asking if she was okay. "yeah, yeah someone scared him away." there was an assurance on the other end of the line that the police would be there soon. she knew they had to get there but it was in these moments she wished they could be everywhere at once. "thank you." she said as she looked at the woman who had probably saved her life.
something made her wake with a start and it took a moment for her to realize she hadn't dreamed it. she blinked in the darkness and she reached across the empty space in her bed to turn the light on and when the light illuminated the room she reached for her phone so she could check the time. it was then she heard a drawe open somewhere in her apartment. she froze and her blood ran cold. someone was in here with her and she was alone. she took a quick second to panic before she made the one choice she could. she decided to run. luckily because her apartment was so small, her bedroom door was next to her front door but it was locked and while she could unlock it without a key, it would make a noise and alert whoever was in her house to the fact she was awake.
it was then she felt a draft on her arm and confused about that she glanced to her window, seeing that it was open. her eyes widened a little, knowing that she'd been on the second story so this person had climbed into her window. she swallowed, fighting the urge to freeze again as she gripped her phone tightly in her hand, pre dialling 999 as she crept out of bed, trying not to make a sound. she did her best to creep towards her door, her eyes looking around the corner to see if she could see anyone in the hall. if they were there, the plan was to slam the door closed, lock it and do her best to go out the window and not die. if she hurt herself that was fine because she had a better chance of coming out of that alive than she did a physical altercation with whoever was in her house.
she couldn't see anyone when she snuck her head out of her bedroom door so she quickly dashed to the door, undoing the lock with a loud click and she heard the sound of running footsteps behind her and she yanked the door open as quickly as she could, pressing the dial button her phone as she ran out of the apartment, her feet carrying her away from her door as fast as she could as she talked down into the phone, her voice terrified and loud as she swore she could hear footsteps running behind her. "he's behind me!" she almost screamed into her phone, loud enough to wake her neighbours or at least she hoped so.
she reached the stairs and she hurried down them, not caring that she was barefoot and wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and a tank top. as she reached the ground floor she heard the police on the other end of the line telling her that someone was on the way. before she could say anything to them she slipped on the floor, her phone clattering to the ground. she scrambled for it but by the time she picked up the phone and put it back to her ears, there was a person standing at the bottom of the stairs and she couldn't tell if it was the person who'd been in her apartment or now. she was shaking and out of breath but she did her best to scramble back from them, still unable to find her footing as she held her free hand out to them. "s-stay away from me!"

strengths • she can be an incredibly focused person. she is resilient and can face just about anything on her own.
weaknesses • she gets jealous often. she spends too much time on her own.
dreams • to revolutionize community planning and fix the divide between city and country areas.
fears • being rejected again.
overall personality • bridge is a very independent person. the way she grew up has a lot to do with her keep calm and carry on attitude. she's under the impression that the only person she can count on is herself and she's happy with that understanding. she can't imagine letting herself down as much as other people have in the past. she can come across as a little aloof but it's all an act because she doesn't like getting close to people, in her experience they end up leaving and not looking back.
she tries to approach each situation logically and she does try to see both sides of an argument but she does tend to be biased towards her own thoughts and opinions a little too much. she's focused on her work and study and sometimes she focuses that much she forgets that she needs to do basic things to stay alive. she doesn't come from much and she knows it but she's determined that she'll get places she's only dreamed of before. she doesn't take handouts and everything she has she's earned, she can be quite frugal but she does splurge a little on nice boots every now and again.
important people • her sisters children, all of them.
hometown • colorado, various boarding schools.
overall history • bridget didn't have the best start in life. born to a father who wanted a son, he didn't really want anything to do with the daughter he'd just had. it wasnt' like her mother was all that much better, bridget was the product of her marriage but they never seemed particularly happy to bridget, at least in her very few memories she has of her mother. she died when bridget was four, a horse riding accident that had seen her impaled on a jump pole. she was there at the time but she doesn't remember anything about the day other than petting the horse that her mother had been riding.
without her mother's influence her father took little interest in bridget and she couldn't help but feel jealous when he started showing attention to naomi. in her young mind it was because he loved her more, not the logical explanation that she'd learn when she got older. her father soon moved on from her mother and with the new step mother came a whole new set of problems. her sister had been sent away to boarding school and bridget, too young to send away stayed in the home with her father and step mother who really didn't have a whole lot of time or a whole lot of love for her. she was nuisance. she was in their way so she learned quickly to stay out of their path, to take care of herself and to keep to herself as much as she could.
as soon as she was old enough, her father shipped her to boarding school, in some cruel twist of design it wasn't the same one her sister had gone to. though by now her father's wife had spent almost everything they'd had and she was bounced around from boarding school to home as her father took her out when he fell behind in payments and enrolled her in another. always out of state, it was a pattern that no one ever picked up on. there was a small saving grace in the principal of the last school she attended. bridget isn't sure what compelled her to but she'd told the principal that she didn't want to go home, the reasons why and she stayed at the school. it was the last and only time bridget has ever asked someone for help, but she's glad she did.
her sister left the states not long after she found her place at her school and while she hadn't seen naomi often since she'd been sent away from home, it still hurt that she'd move so far away. she threw herself into her school work, withdrew into her self even more and eventually graduated with good enough grades that she was accepted into university in the same town she'd grown up in. she moved back to colorado but she didn't move home, she moved into the dorms but she didn't feel settled. it was about a year after she started university that she applied for a transfer, to the university in the same town her sister lived in in the UK. she arrived in the UK, with a scholarship to study at the hickstead university, though she missed out on the scholarship for housing. that was just another hurdle she needed to jump. she rang around the town, eventually securing a job at the woodbain flats which allowed her to rent a small apartment at reduced cost and she was able to divide her classes between online and on campus so she could still work.
she found a recreational activity while she was at university too, she'd not had much to do with horses before. other than the limited experiences she could remember from when her mother was alive and when she first came to england she resisted the urge or desire to spend a lot of time at namoi's barn because she felt it wasn't something of hers to enjoy. it was her sisters life, something she'd been able to do because of her parents. bridget didn't have that luxury. but she'd been invited to come out to the seven oaks stables with one of the few friends she'd made at the school, rode their horse a few times and enjoyed it enough that she signed up for lessons, not as regular as she'd like, once a fortnight was all her budget could allow at that point, but now a year later she rides regularly at the stables and part leases one of the barn horses two days a week.
she's been here two years now, has a year to go on her degree and then she's not sure where she wants to go. she's reconnected with her sister but she can't help feel jealous of the life that her sister was able to step into. she does know that way of thinking is unfair but she can't help but think her sister has it made.
