Kendra flipped her notebook to a new page - writing down the suspects name at the top. She knew with everything going on she could easily mix up who she spoke to.
She adjusted her hair before opening the door to the interrogation room. The blonde glanced at the younger man - she could tell right away that he was a bit of a troublemaker - it was the twinkle in his eyes that gave it away.
"Hi, I just have a few questions for you regarding the arson at Blue Acres. Do you spend a lot of time there?" She took a seat, choosing the one closest to the door - opening her notebook to the newest page and clicking her pen once, ready to take notes as well as listen.
Kendra was informed that it was her turn to interrogate a suspect. It seemed like sometime had passed after the barn fire, but the investigation itself was still going on.
She let out a sigh, hoping she got stuck with someone who didn't act like they were a brick wall during the questioning. The blonde twisted the length of her hair before putting it up in a clip - it was something she often did when she was called into doing a questioning.
The officer opened the door to the questioning room, closing the door behind her while holding a clipboard with questions and a pen. She was old school in the fact that she didn't use a laptop in a situation like this. Computers had problems and she wanted to see the initial facial expression of the suspect while they answered - she was good at telling if the person was lying or not.
"Adalia Herondale? I do appreciate you coming in. Did you happen to be at the barn before the fire happened?" She pulled out her own chair and sat down before quietly bringing her chair close to the table. The officer set her clipboard on the hard surface in front of her before writing down the name and the date of the interrogation.
Kendra was thrilled to hear that barrel racing had been added as a class at a competition. She had been busy with work for the last competition, but now she was ready.
The chestnut gelding let out a huff as he closed his eyes in the stall. Kendra allowed Chloe and Tobias to help her get Cairo ready - the two were in charge of brushing and getting the gelding ready. Kendra herself focused on getting herself ready, dusting off her old Western show gear just for this occasion. She buttoned up her shirt, tightened her belt and slid her feet into her cowboy boots.
By that point, Cairo was ready to go. She smiled at her family as they held Cairo's reins and gently taking them from Tobias. The blonde walked over towards the mounting block - checked the cinch and got on, walking over towards the warmup ring.
They went through their paces, watching out for other riders as she did so. It wasn't long before their names were called and they headed over to the show pen. It seemed as if most people were having difficulties keeping the barrels up - they were fixing the barrels as soon as she approached, giving her a thumbs up when they were ready.
Kendra nodded and clucked twice before Cairo picked up a gallop - she let her horse go a few strides straight before turning him towards the first barrel, turning tight around it before galloping off to the second one. This time the turn was too tight, causing her foot to make contact with the barrel, causing it to fall over. She urged the chestnut on towards the last one, trying to make up for time, but the same thing happened at the last barrel.
She let out a sigh, focusing on galloping as fast as they could towards the finish line - bringing the gelding back to a walk after they finished. Kendra wasn't happy with the result, though she knew they were rusty. The blonde reached down and patted Cairo on the neck, thanking him for the good try anyway.
Kendra could feel the grip loosen from the perp - it seemed as if he was starting to back off. She was trained not to be stupid or naïve in situations like these - there were thieves even in a small town like Hickstead. She wasn't someone who was constantly paranoid, though she knew what sounds to look out for - especially when she was alone.
"What made you guess that?" She didn't really think that giving her profession away. There were more and more females who were taking self defense classes - mostly for those just in case situations. "That's an odd way to explain what you were really doing. I am good at keeping my eye on my own things. I'd just like to let you know it's not respectful to sneak up on someone like that." There went her motherly tone - which often leaked into her police officer voice too. It was finally getting easier to use a softer tone, including when she got mad at her own daughter.
"Hasn't anyone ever told you that?" She wondered how this teen grew up - most people found it was common sense to make it known that someone was approaching you. Or at least if the intentions were pure. "Actually, it's my horse that threw the shoe. I don't think it's lucky. You don't ride do you?" The blonde didn't recognize him - as a police officer she did try her best to recognize people she often came in contact with.
Kendra laughed, this wasn't the first time she had been flattered. "I'll have you know the police officers aren't all fat and lazy." Just the ones that were getting up there in age, but they still had yearly fitness tests to pass. "Zayn? Is that some sort of nickname? I'm Kendra." She nodded before picking up her horse shoe and putting it in the pocket of her jacket.
It was almost as if her police instincts kicked in. Her hand was around the perp's wrist before standing up and turning around - causing the wrist to twist. Her intent was not to break it, but to cause some pain. "Give me my wallet back, then we can talk." The horse shoe in her other hand dropped on the ground with a light thud. Right now she was more focused on her safety.
She glanced at the person now. He seemed younger than what she expected. The dark eyes and longer shaggy hair made her wonder if he looked familiar to her. The blonde kept calm before her next comment. "Or are you going to tell me that grabbing my wallet was by pure accident?" She was using her bad cop voice now. The teen didn't seem to have weapons, but he needed to be respectful of her.
Kendra slightly loosened her grip on his wrist once it started to turn white. Her team would be proud of her - using her self defense skills away from work.
It was only when she cleaned Sailor when Kendra realized that the gelding had thrown a shoe. They had enjoyed their Fall trail ride, attempting to ride outside as much as they could before the change of seasons. She let out a sigh, it happened to every rider eventually.
The blonde finished dealing with Sailor, putting him back outside in the gelding's pasture before she headed on foot. She sent Chase a text, asking if he had time to put it back on as she continued on. Not knowing exactly where the liver chestnut lost his shoe made things difficult. The last thing she wanted though was to have an animal or another human step on it by accident and hurt themselves. The leaves crunched under her riding boots at the trail head and very quickly a silver object caught her eye. She headed over and picked it up off the ground. It was just a coin, which she stuck in her back pocket.
As she continued along, she heard a branch crunch behind her. The blonde turned around, wildly glancing to see where her company was coming from. "Hello? Anyone there?" The trails were usually quiet in the mornings, but Kendra was always careful wherever she went.
Kendra left Chloe with Tobias - it was odd for the two parents to be off of work on the same day but Kendra had been assigned to work security for the event - in case a fight broke out or a child had lost their parents.
She fixed her vest and opened the tent - signaling to the rest of the crowd that they were open. Kendra began her rounds, checking to see if anything was out of the ordinary. So far, everything seemed calm and everyone was behaving nicely.
Kendra is someone who keeps her friends very close to her. She is pretty outgoing, hates being wrong and she loves people, which is why she became a police officer in the first place. Her daughter, Chloe could also attract some friends for Kendra, usually the parents of the child.
enemies
Anyone who she has put in jail or people who just barely follow the law. The rules were put in place for a reason...right? She also dislikes being told what to do which I'm sure has caused her to gain some enemies in the past.
