Ah the start of a new school year. The summer had been a wild ride with his family, and not in the good sort of way. He also had been having girlfriend issues on top of that. Plus, there was always the underground arena to earn some side money for his family, although, to his Dad's credit, it looked like he was finally getting his shit together...again. Still, Stephen Breckah found himself having to pull back from the world as he knew it, and went to the public library for some peace and quiet. Nobody he knew would come there - they either liked to study at campus or they were allergic to libraries - which, was fine.
Green eyes poured over some journalism text books, now that he was in his third year, Hickstead University was finally letting him get into a majority of his major studies verses the forced liberal arts. Stephen wasn't entirely bothered by this, he loved learning and reading in general, but it had been taking a backburner since coming home from Oxford. The thought actually made him sigh, and for a second or two, Stephen couldn't help but to wonder what his life would be if he hadn't come back home after his mother's death.
All things considered, it was a morbid thought. While life hadn't always been picturesque, he forged some new friendships, and perhaps reshaped some of his relationships with his own brothers that would have never been possible if he had lingered back at ht ivy league school. A ruffling of books caught his eye, as well as a flury of movement, as he caught sight of a gangly boy trying to wrangle a giant pile of books. An eyebrow arched, mainly because he knew the guy - the dumbo sized ears gave it away, "Fionn?"

Fionn was happy that the last year of his PhD was nearing. Not that he didn’t mind being in school, but he was ready to enter the workforce and travel. He had run into a few cousins of his, which was nice. But also kind of scary. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, but there seemed to be a big Breckak reunion. Plus, with his mothers moving to Hickstead – it made the small town feel even smaller.
Thankfully, studies were an easy distraction. He had an extra part of his dissertation to be working on and Fionn found himself at the library. Like usual, he had overdone it on the book selection. But, as usual – his lanky arms were able to carry things. As Fionn was balancing the books and making his way to a table – he heard his name be called. Well, he probably whispered when he was taking a break at a shelf to rest.
Fionn, looked towards the voice and saw someone at another table. He had a familiar face. Then it clicked. “It seems I’m meeting all of the Breckah family in a weird…Scott Pilgrim kind of way…Sorry..which one are you?” he inquired managing to carry the books to a close table. Might as well put them down if he was going to be interviewed.
It looked like Fionn was wearing a blank face as his eyes made contact with Stephan. Green eyes blinked. Really? He thought to himself, and then it finally looked like the recognition hit his cousin's face. However his response left something to be desired. A snort of laughter escaped him, "Wow. Ramona Flower ex-boyfriends? Does that mean we're all douches also?" Although, now that he thought about it, "Actually - don't answer that." Stephan watched like some sort of hawkish library animal as Fionn made his way over now, not offering any help.
The books hit close table with a soft thump. Wow. Stephan was too scary to even sit with. Granted, it had been a while since he had seen Fionn and given his remark, it sounded like he had a rough go with one of his brothers. None of them, afterall, were very good about respecting an adult, "I'm Stephan," he offered with a smile, "The one that went to Oxford." He knew that alone had warrented enough bragging rights across the family branches. Maybe it would ring a bell, "What are you doing here?" Then, just in case his cousin was one of those people, Stephan added on, "In Hickstead. Not the library."

Fionn chuckled. “It's all good. We aren't known for a small bloodline anyway.” After regaining some arm strength, he picked up the books and moved them to the table where Stephen sat before he took a seat across from his cousin.
Stephen's answer marinated in his head before he nodded. “Ah. Yes, I believe I heard that through the grapevine.” Fionn remembered his mom saying something about it but he didn't want to commit to knowing if he knew the full truth or not.
He grabbed a book before flipping it open. “I'm finishing up my PhD in marine sciences,” Fionn smiled. “I received a full ride and am about to finish up by the end of 2025. Or at least, I hope to! If I do, I should have something lined up to study under a marine lab in the tropics over the summer. What about you?”
