The holidays were always an interesting time for folks. Emmett’s students were hard at work the last semester. In her usual manner, Renée liked to meet with those students who worked with her husband. Mainly to see how they were doing and if they were okay. Renée allowed pure honesty, and if they voiced that Emmett or someone else at the firm was being a bit hard on them – she would deal with it. Law was already hard enough, there didn’t need the extra drama of it all from the office.

Today, was Landon. Renée thought he had graduated already, but if she remembered that he was continuing to his master’s at Hickstead. With possibly going to another school for his law. A lot was going on for him, at least that was presented to her. Landon was a bit uptight, but this young woman named Jaana seemed to be loosening him up a bit.

For privacy, the students were invited to talk to Renée in her office at home. It was far enough that Emmett couldn’t eavesdrop. But it was still in a comfortable area where the students could eat and drink. And not feel like they were being interviewed.

Renée had some sandwiches with the popular beverages out and ready to be served. Her couch in her office was nicely fluffed with some fun pillows and a blanket. She sat at her desk, going over some new contracts with another rescue center. As she was reading the final paragraph, a staff member knocked on the door frame. Renée looked up and saw Landon who was led in. “Good afternoon, Landon! I hope you had a good Christmas. Please, help yourself to some lunch.” A warm smile crossed her lips, as she closed the file in front of her, placing it to the side.

Landon didn't know what to do with himself over the break. His family usually flew home to Chicago, but his mother got called in to be on call during the holidays. The four of them made the best of it though, having their usual traditions though despite being in the UK still. He had a lot to think about though - from dating Jaana to deciding what his life path was going to look like in terms of school. He spent his free time at the barn, giving Mary the much needed attention the mare needed. 

As soon as he got the call from Renee about setting up a meeting with him, he was nervous. It was always awkward for him to talk to her - she was his boss's wife after all. Landon felt he had to have everything perfect wondering if she kept what he said to her private. Landon let out a sigh as it was finally time for him to leave for his meeting with Renee. As he was already in town running an errand for his sister it was a mere five minute walk to the woman's office. He opened the front door and gave his name to one of her employees and was led into her office. 

He glanced around the office - it should have been the decor he was expecting. Landon knew from the break room that she was a bit of a crazy cat lady. The man cleared his throat after he was spoken to. "Hello, Renee. It was alright. My mother ended up being on call so unfortunately our annual trip home was cancelled. What about you? Did you and Mr. Armstrong go anywhere?" Landon could smell the food, glad he didn't have lunch before he left home. After making his way over to the food, he picked up a plate and began glancing at what was available.
