Post surgery care wasn’t what Sabrina was thinking she would be doing today, but she knew it would be something that she would be doing at some point. There were a few times that her professors had gone over a broken bone and whatnot. But a Cane Corso that had a c-section wasn’t something that she’d be a part of this early.
Sabrina wasn’t allowed during surgery, but the University and the local vet office agreed that Sabrina and future students partake in the post. Until they hit a certain year in school, that was. After scrubbing up, Sabrina was guided by one of the techs into the post-care room where Dr. Katsaros would be giving her instructions.
The young woman could see the puppies were in a resting area, as the mother was still in the process of waking up. Despite being around horses for so long, Sabrina had never seen a dog so big. “She’s a big momma.” Alright, that maybe wasn't the best thing to say - but it was true, right?

The surgery had been touch and go for a bit, and she had speyed the canine before closing the incision and she looked over at the six bundles that had been towel dried and were waiting for their mum to wake up. They had lost three of the puppies, but there had been nothing they could do, and one was in an incubator fighting for his life, after being stuck in the birth-canal, the reason that the dog had been brought into the clinic by her frantic owners.
She turned with a smile at the sound of a voice, soothing the mother dog with her hands. "Yeah, she's not the smallest of dogs. Her breed is the oldest in the world." Normally one would offer their hand to make introductions, but not in here. "You must be Sabrina. I'm Demeter... Dr Kataros if you're into being formal, and this is Tink - short for Tinkerbell. She's just waking up, and you're just in time to introduce her to her babies." She gave the vet student a warm smile. "Would you like to come and meet the babies?"
“Yes! That is me,” Sabrina smiled when Demeter introduced herself. The teen didn't feel too comfortable by calling vets their first name like other students. It felt a bit weird coming off her tongue. Maybe it was because her parents taught her it was the title or even sir or ma'am. A respectable thing.
Deleterious didn't have to twist Sabrina's arm or anything. The answer was always yes to see puppies. “OH of course, should I put gloves on? I'm already scrubbed but obviously will redo anything just in case!” Sabrina was not going to make a puppy sick, not today at least. Well, or ever unless it was to vomit up something.
