October was rolling around, and Oliver was already missing the summer weather. Mainly due to the fact he was used to being in the sun, and swimming. His genetics had prepared him well for the colder months, so the breeze from the ocean wasn’t a terrible thing.
He only found himself at the pier today because it was somewhat nicer out. Oliver, out of the things he had going in his life – found fishing from one of his swim mates. It had taken Oliver a few times to figure out all the mechanisms it but found the activity cathartic. And since he got fifth in a violin competition, he needed it. Despite his friends and family saying fifth in a massive London competition wasn’t bad, it still stung.
Oliver sat on a bench and opened his tackle box. He wouldn’t do anything fancy today, probably a lure. If he needed more bait, the source wouldn’t be far away in the way of minnows or the shop. As he fingered through his options, Oliver felt a shadow cast over him. He looked up to see Archie, the third reason Oliver found himself more at Blue Acres. “Hey, Archie. You here to check on your family yacht?” he teased, with a big grin.
Archie had to get out of the house, the tension in the air could have been cut with a knife it was so wound and tight. And like any male in a female dominate household, he excused himself. The morning had started out good enough, everyone seemed to be more or less getting along when he left for the barn this morning. His mother was being polite, his sisters both appeared to be being polite, so Archie thought everything was fine. But clearly, something went down, because once he got back to the barn, it was chaos - the sort of dangerous chaos that had yet to be unleashed but you could feel it just simmering and waiting to be released.
It was probably poor form of him to leave, but seventeen going on eighteen soon, he was practically an adult - and quite frankly, everyone else in the household was an adult, and he didn't' want to referee it at all. Archie always seemed to get along with everyone individually, but once they were all thrown into a room together, he couldn't stand it at all. Maybe that was the curse of being a baby. So the young man found himself leaving once more and heading downtown to wander, figuring if he returned to Blue Arces, people might ask questions that he didn't feel like asking.
As it would have it though, he bypast downtown and ended up at the pier to watch the seagulls and taste the salt water breeze. Somehow, it felt grounding. Walking along the pier, Archie could feel his brain switch off - well, at least, until he saw someone he knew. Green eyes caught sight of one Oliver Deak. A friend. A boy that he often hoped would stop by Blue Arces even though he didn't ride. He walked over now, and before he could say anything, Oliver spoke first and looked up at him. Archie blinked for a moment, "The yacht? No I was..." and then something dawned on him, "You're teasing me, aren't you?" he asked with a grin, settling down next to the other teenage boy and nudging his shoulder against the other for the briefest of moments in a hello, "I didn't know you fished. I feel like I learn a new thing about you every time I see you."

“Sorry,” he smiled. “I couldn’t help it.” There were times that Oliver liked to tease the richer folks he knew. While there were people like Janie and Molly, where their parents worked hard to help raise the kids – the other people were fun to tease. Mainly because their common sense and street smarts were lackluster. Thankfully, Archie was smart enough to see that Oliver wasn’t being malicious.
Oliver nudged back, allowing his shoulder to linger a millisecond before releasing. “I just started learning, to be honest. It was frustrating at first, but it makes you slow down, y’know? Have you ever tried it?” he asked, probably already knowing the answer. He didn’t know much about Archie other than he spoke German and rode horses. Oliver had asked Molly and Janie to help sus out any more info, but they often told him to put his big boy pants on.
A chuckle escaped him as Oliver admitted that he couldn't help himself, somehow, that didn't surprise him, "It's fine. The teasing keeps me grounded." He replied back with a grin. Unlike his parents, and maybe his sisters, Archie was often okay with a good rib about his background. While in Germany, there was a line drawn in the sand, out in Hickstead, those lines blurred and society allowed for him to hang out with who he deemed fit.
As the other boy's nudge against his shoulder lingered a few seconds longer than typical, Archie could feel his stomach flitter a little bit. Thank god his hands were resting on the dock, otherwise, his palms probably would be disgusting for Oliver to touch all of the sudden. Green eyes glanced over at the other boy now, eyebrow arching, "Slow down? What's that?" he asked with a grin, "But no, I haven't tried it before. I'm more of a rough and tumble type with my sports between polo ponies and water polo. My family's more into fast cars and big yachts."
His gaze held Oliver's for a bit longer, before daring to ask, "Want to show me though?"
