It was the time of year that the Ledor-Kita household changed from a basic look to the Haunted Mansion Disney ride. Green lights, cheesecloth, large fake spiders, and a plethora of décor. Even the horses got cute little decorations. Especially, the ones that would be out in the pastures like the personal horses of the family. Animal-safe, glow-in-the-dark paint was put on a few of the horses, to add some extra spook.
Halloween music played in the background as the twins got ready in their rooms. While the idea of dressing up as the twins from The Shining, they didn’t want to make things too awkward. Since both Ronan and Jameson will be attending. Piper wasn’t nervous about Ronan, but Sabrina was deathly nervous about Jameson.
She hadn’t expected Jameson to agree to come. So, at the last minute, Piper was able to create an attractive, but still practical version of Velma, from Sabrina’s favorite show. Piper was dressed...kind of normal, as it was Halloween all the time for her. Except, Piper chose all red for her own version of Lydia Deetz. Their parents were dressed as Elvira and Morticia, all decked out in gorgeous black dresses.
The twins made their way to the barn which was all decked out as if it was possible to have more Halloween around them. Glow in the dark chicken wire ghosts and figures lit the path for their guests, to the main hall of the barn. Hanging fake candles hung from the rafters, with black wreaths, and plastic pumpkins lining the tables filled with food and beverage. Soon, their guests victimes would be arriving.
For last year's words belong to last year's language. And next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.
Jaana was a bit embarrassed with how many questions she had for Landon about Halloween. England celebrated Halloween, but nothing like their neighbors across the pond. She was curious about it all and was happy to be invited along.
Unfortunately, with class and work – Jaana couldn’t create a typical Halloween costume. Jaana thrifted a white dress and found a corset she made last semester. It wasn’t dark, but it was cute and better than jeans and sneakers, right? There was an attempt with light makeup as well. If she had more time after work, things would’ve been different – but since Landon offered to drive, Jaana had to be done earlier than she expected.
It didn’t feel like too much time had passed when she heard her phone ping with the notification that Landon was a few minutes away. She hoped her grandparents wouldn’t ask for too many photos. They weren’t together or anything…right?
It was late now, and Regan was lost in the darkness. While he was able to find his way to the dairy farm, he had run from a different direction. It was pitch black as he was making his way through the various farmlands. He was hoping he wouldn’t trigger some alarm on someone’s land and get the dogs thrown at him.
Regan felt his stomach growl, tempted to grab one of the apples in his sack. But he didn’t, as the smell of rich food was wafting from a place that was surrounded by…lights? Regan had never seen a house decorated as heavily as this. It would make sneaking a bit harder, but the smell of roasted meat and fluffy mash was too tempting.
Jameson "Jamie" Hughs had never been into Halloween too much, simply because it always felt like an American tradition compared to that in the UK. Yes, England celebrated it, but it never topped the extravaganza and apparent skeleton wars that Americans got into. Yet, when a personal invite to the big Ledor-Kita Halloween bash came from none other than Sabrina herself, the young man surprised both her and himself by agreeing to come. Never mind had it escaped his mind that he needed to dress up as someone other than himself - then pure panic struck. Thankfully though, all that teasing Jamie endured from his brother about looking like a Disney prince throughout the years finally had purpose.
Okay okay, so perhaps he wasn't exactly identifiable as any specific prince in his billowy white shirt, high waisted tan trousers, and blue vest paired along with some boots, but well, it got the job done. The shirt exposed his chest a little more than he liked (but Ollie swore it looked good on him) and it was certainly more thin than he cared for, but what was done was done. Jamie figured he'd just have to stick away from any events with water or else he may look like he belonged at 1800's spring break wet t-shirt contest rather than a Halloween party. Slowly driving down Lorten Ave, blue eyes caught sight of a few of the horses out in the pasture, looking more like nightmares and living skeletons rather than themselves - well, in a creative way at least.
He couldn't help but to smile as he pulled onto the driveway towards Helping Hooves and the Ledor-Kita mannor now. Parking the car, Jamie got out and looked around at his surroundings, taking in the changes that seemed to have happened to the house and helping hooves for the event which very much looked like Disneyland Paris' Phantom Manor. A whistle escaped him, Jamie only distracted soon enough by his phone going off and informing him that he should head towards the haunted hayride as his first activity of the night, "Haunted hayride?" The young man questioned out loud, his mind going places where his nerves simply just skyrocketed. Shaking it off, Jamie gave himself a pep talk and headed off to enjoy whatever this haunted night might give him.
I'm setting out into the great unknown, I don't know where I'm going but I'm ready
thanks aofie!
Eighteen . Student - Pre Vet . Crushing on SABRINA RAVEN LEDOR-KITA Blue Arces Rider - Dressage Student
Fifteen year old Brooklyn Hazelton was so excited that it was possible that she might defy physics and spontaneously combust in her mother's car from too much excitement. Her first adult Halloween party. No school grounds, no chaperoning, just dancing, haunted hayrides, fun, and above all - one crush. The fact that it was at the Ledor-Kita house and ground hardly phased her, since even though the fifteen year old likely annoyed the older girls, the talk of the town was that this was the Halloween Party to be at in Hickstead. Her parents had prepared her for a mellow Halloween this year, given that England tended to celebrate Guy Fawkes day which meant the more American holiday was on the back burner, but not now.
She had struck compromise with her parents on how to dress, not super sexy but not super conservative either, Brooklyn was certain that she had conjured up (Ha, get it, conjured) the ultimate House Gryffindor outfit to run amuck in. The teenager had been a little disappointed that the Saddle Club had been unable to attend this evening's festivities - mainly do to school work and family obligations, but Brooklyn knew she had at least two other friends in attendance, and if she could get away with talking to him, Ronan Slade as well. Her mom pulled to a stop at the end of the driveway of 78 Lorten Ave: "Okay Brooklyn, either your father or I will be here to pick you up at-"
"Midnight!" Brooklyn said excitedly, already opening the door and fighting with her seatbelt to get out.
"No, 10 pm, Brooklyn," her mother said sternly.
"11 pm! Got it. Bye mom!" And before her mom could get another word in, the fifteen year old was off - sprinting up that familiar driveway towards, what she was certain at least, was going to be the best night in her life.
The teen let out a loud sigh as he walked towards the barn. Halloween wasn't really something he enjoyed celebrating - especially when his parents would lock himself and his siblings inside their basement. Trick or treating was something he had experienced once though, enjoying the large amount of candy he had received from neighbors.
His costume was something thrown together last minute, glad that he and Dahlia had found a Superman t-shirt at the local thrift store. Justin fixed his shirt and headed up the path, admiring the decorations as he approached the main barn. Once he arrived, he decided to stay off to the side, allowing the others to approach first. As Sabrina and Piper were the first ones there, he moved closer to them. "Hello, thanks for the invite." He didn't expect them to go all out, though some people loved the holiday. Justin glanced over and saw that he was one of the last ones to join. "I do have to say, the food also smells amazing." He hoped his stomach would stop grumbling - or at least keep quiet enough for the others not to hear.
Landon felt slightly bombarded by questions about Halloween. He really didn't know why Jaana didn't know much about the holiday, but she wasn't born in the States. He agreed to pick her up from home, also getting ready for the questions from her father.
The teen had help from his sister with creating his costume - the whole family had decided to go with the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. He had sent Jaana a text when he left his house, glad that he had the day off. His sister bugged him about asking Jaana, wondering if they were actually together. He rolled his eyes before he left.
The drive to Jaana's grandparents wasn't too far and the weather seemed to be cooperating with them. He parked the car and got out, fixing his hair as he stepped up the front door steps. Landon rang the door bell, sending Jaana a text that he was there. He had a small gift for her in his free hand. It was a small bag of treats he had made - his family was surprised that he didn't burn the house down.
A few moments later, the familiar red head opened the door. "Hey! You almost ready to go? I have a little gift for you. Not sure if you wanted to open it now or wait until we get there?"
Ronan Slade couldn't believe he was doing this - going to a party. There was no place he would rather not be than with insane crowds of people and the chaos that could reign from it. But there was a reason why Ronan was driving to said party now, or perhaps, not a reason, but a person. He had known her for a year, and within that year, what started out as begrudging class partners felt like it grew into something more. But feelings were often a difficult thing for Ronan Slade to deal with, despite parenting that said otherwise, the teenager often felt like he rather wear steel armor than deal with friendships and love.
But someone had cracked that steel, made it shatter like porcelain all around him, and for the first time sine his mother left when he was little, Ronan was willing to take a shot at love again. A different sort of love, but it was love all the same. A feeling that would leave him exposed. He pulled up to the parking lot of Helping Hooves and the Ledor-Kita family, and parked his grandfather's jeep, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel as blue grey eyes stared ahead. The young man could back out, he could say he wasn't feeling well and leave. It was tempting, so tempted, to still back out and not leave the car. But that wouldn't be fair to her, and perhaps, it wouldn't be fair to him as well.
"Suck it up, Ronan," he muttered to himself, and with that, he opened the door and got out. His gaze caught sight of a few people from University and Seven Oaks walking up the hill now, all in their own brand of Halloween, just like she would be. A slight smile rested on the young man's face, "Brooklyn! Wait up!" he called out now, and headed off to join his friend, and whatever the night might bring them.
