The initial three years were full of love and life, all that could ever be wanted until Audrey fell ill and rapidly deteriorated from there on - the doctor's informing Martin that his wife had terminal cancer and that there was no saving her. Martin's hand was forced by having to raise his daughter alone after Audrey passed away only two months after being told she was terminal. Growing up, Ursula only asked once about her mother and she would forever remember the anger on his face, and never asked again. It was tough, growing up without a mother - her father constantly out working and left in the care of a baby sitter or her Aunt Cecile. And with the old world views of her father and aunt playing a part in her life, there were plenty of things that grew up knowing no better. Once she was old enough, she was taught how to wash and iron, how to clean and cook, how to mend and sew clothes, and in general - run a house. Her father approved of how she did things, and after a while, began to teach her to work with the police dogs. It was terrifying at first, but Martin forced her to get over her fear and to learn and appreciate the animals she was working with, soon enough was working with large German Shepherds and Dobermans on their bite-work. Into her teenage years, she was bullied by every guy she knew - too skinny and awkward, red-haired and far too smart - Ursula was often pushed around. Yet she let out her frustrations by working with her favorite dogs and sitting in the station with her dad on his late shifts, often falling asleep in his work jacket with a book in her lap, only waking up the following morning in her own bed. Upon graduating college, she almost went into the force to continue with the dogs, but she decided against it much to her father's disappointment. She was certain that she would be fine without the dogs, moving out into her own flat. She had few boyfriends, but none were committed and didn't like how she kept retired police-dogs in her apartment, assuming her to be crazy. And then there was Jonathan... She was smitten, he was everything she wanted, ever needed. They fell head over heels for each other, and at twenty-seven, he asked her to marry him and she said yes. She had all the blessing in the world from her father, who just wanted to see his little girl happy. But a happy ending there was not going to be - because Jonathan left her at the alter, disappearing without a trace. Ursula held out hope that there would be some reason, but he was never found. At twenty-eight, Ursula stupidly fell into the vicious lifecycle of drugs, believing against better judgement that the substances would take away the ache left behind. She withdrew from the world dangerously, cutting out her father and what few friends she had, spiraling out of control. It was only when Martin busted in her apartment door did he learn of how deep his little girl had dug herself into drugs. He was furious that she allowed herself to fall so low, but he also understood her loss. It took several years before Ursula was completely clean at thirty-four, and had enough courage to move back home with her dad where, at his request, started working with the dogs again to help keep her occupied. Now at thirty-six, Ursula has finally picked up and moved herself and her two retired police dogs - Rodney and Sparks - to Hickstead with Martin's blessing. She wants to pick up and move forward with her life, a new chapter. the role player alias • BlackJack, Jac age • Getting on in years other characters • oh no... |
