There was the sun, for once, and Taylor knew she better enjoy it while she could. Her classes were over the day, and she had a bit of time to take a walk to a neighboring farm. Katie, someone that Taylor had run across a few times – had reached out for some yarn for some new projects. Mainly fingering weight. Taylor was curious as to what someone would make with a fingering weight yarn. Maybe it was because she often worked with DK and thicker yarns. There were a few times that Taylor attempted socks but fuck that. Too hard.
A bundle of options was safely packed away in the wicker basket in her hand. Her boots squished a bit in the mud on the trails, as the snow was beginning to melt and muddy the drive. Not that Taylor wasn’t used to it.
Taylor’s walk to Katie’s farm wasn’t too bad. Maybe fifteen to twenty minutes max. Katie’s farm was a bit smaller than Taylor’s and needed a lot more work. But Taylor knew that life all too well. She made her way up to Katie’s front porch, or what Taylor assumed was a front porch at some point. Her knuckles made a solid knock on the door. Taylor stepped back and waited patiently.
Leaning back onto her heels Katie wiped the bit of sweat that was trickling down the side of her face with the back of her hand. Blue eyes scanned the surrounding area and let out a huff a air. Katie had woken up this morning with a mission on trying to fix the flower beds that surrounded the house. She hated that the house looked so dreary when it once used to be so beautiful! Her grandparents had worked so hard for many years to keep the older home beautiful and producing.
Standing up she pulled off her gloves and beat them against her knees to help get some of the dirt off of her pants as well as her gloves. Laying her gloves down on the wagon she walked around the garden to the back door where she entered the kitchen. Blue eyes scanned the kitchen when her eyes landed on the calico cat laying on the floor sunning herself, Afternoon Josie the cat yawned a small meow before getting up and walking between Katie legs. Katie let out a small laugh as she finished drying her hands on a towel nearby. Grabbing a cup and small saucer out of the cupboard she went to the fridge and grabbed the pitcher of lemonade and milk. Pouring milk into the saucer she heard a knock at the from door. Looking down at the calico cat, Are you expecting visitors? she asked as she placed the saucer on the ground and putting the milk in the fridge before heading to the front door.
Walking around a few boxes that she hadn't the chance to go through. Some were her grandparents' things and some were hers, but it was hard to stay inside when it was beautiful outside. Opening the front door a smile spread across her face as a familiar face appeared, Hello Taylor! Please do come in!! I was just fixing myself up a glass of lemonade would you like some? Katie took a step back so the woman in front of her could walk inside, Please excuse the mess. I'm still trying to unpack and rearrange things. Katie waited for Taylor to walk inside before shutting the door behind her. Walking back through the boxes she made her way to the kitchen, Please sit down. Katie smiled as she pulled out another glass from the cupboard. Walking to the fridge she opened the top part and dug out a couple of pieces of ice into each glass. Moving back to the counter she poured two cups of lemonade. Sitting them down onto the table, What brings you out for a visit? Katie smiled as she sat down at the table taking a small sip of lemonade.
Taylor smiled back when Katie greeted her. There was something nice about a green farmer. Though, Taylor knew that Katie grew up around here – from previous conversations. But it would still be new nonetheless. Especially, starting over.
“Oh, that would be great – thanks!” Taylor replied, following Katie. She slipped off her boots so as to not track any more mud in. “I’m here since you mentioned wanting to look at some yarn options.” Taylor placed the basket of goodies on the table, before sitting down and taking the lemonade Katie had offered her.
“I didn’t know what you would be interested in, so I got some various weights – as well as some color options. I can dye some new colors lots too, but I hope it will give you an idea. Are you planning to weave with yarn or maybe knit or crochet?” usually, those that had gotten Taylor’s wares were like that. Crafty people. But there were people who got it for gifts as well.
