he was off fighting for them to be safe, so he and his brother could have whatever they wanted in life and that's how he always viewed his dad, doing what he could to keep them safe. there was a light in the sour though, that was his uncle's house. they were always welcome there which was a good thing because they spent a fair bit of their childhood being sent there for weekends. he learned so much from them while he was there. he learned his love of books from matthew and then he learned his love of martial arts from david. he was struggling to control his emotions and david thought it would be a good way for him to channel his emotions and his energy and he was right. it was the only sport that chandler could even stand to be a part of, he had always been more into his books and games than he had been working out but martial arts, it resonated with him. it was complex, more strategy than strength and if you outthought your opponent you could win without much effort. it was thrilling for him. when they were at home, chandler didn't like it at all. he missed his father while he was away and he didn't feel like he could connect with his mother while shannon and jennifer were there, he knows now that he struggled a little feeling like he was overlooked by her but when he was a kid he didn't think like that. he just knew that the one parent he wanted to be there wasn't, because he was away doing what he needed to keep them all safe. chandler felt himself pulling away from his mother over the next few years. he saw what shannon went through and he tried to help him out with the house, the bills and the shopping but he couldn't bring himself to understand why their mother couldn't do it herself. she was the adult, they were the kids. it wasn't their job. while he wrestles on rubber mats, his brother wrestled with bulls and after the first time he saw shannon get hurt he hated it. he hated seeing his siblings in pain and suffering and knowing that shan knowingly got onto the animals that could kill him, he couldn't watch him. he's watched him once in his life and that was enough. he'd listen to the stories, listen to his mother brag about his riding when she managed to make time to go watch, but he couldn't make himself go. he couldn't bring himself to watch something that might take his brother from him. when his parents divorced, it was like his family imploded. his parents divorced and shit from the past hit the proverbial fan and smacked them all in the face. his sister was only his half sister, his mother had opened her legs for her husbands older brother and chandler hated her for it. she'd put them through a life of having their uncle make nigths miserable and he couldn't forgive her for it. nor could he understand his siblings reactions to it. his brother took their mother's side and his sister took her biological father's side, even though their father had raised her as his own. he couldn't understand it. he sided with his father, walking out of the house as soon as he'd been able to and he'd done the only thing he could think to do. he travelled the country going from martial arts house to martial arts house and he taught the sport that had helped him cope with everything growing up. he did this for years, not really spending more than six months in a place because he didn't want to form connections that were too deep. he spent time with his dad whenever he could, which wasn't all that often because his father was hardly ever stateside. he kept in contact with shannon though, often not as much as he'd liked to but he found himself missing his twin the last few months and he took his savings and he applied to move to the UK. there were plenty of places to teach in the UK and then he could even jump ship to other places from there, see more of the world than his own country. so he jumped on a plane a few weeks ago and he made his way to london, spending time there to get acclimated before he made the drive down to hickstead so he can see if shannon wants to meet up with him, catch up after all these years. he has no plans on seeing his mother though, that's one door he doesn't want to open ever again. the role player alias • shadow. age • old enough to be your mother's daughter. other characters • one potato, two potato. |
