A light yawn escaped June as she sat in the consultation area of the tattoo shop. It hadn’t opened yet, but she had come in early to work on a few sketches for some new clients. They were simple enough, just a few small pieces to cover a scar and some memorial things. It was rare she did anything bigger than someone’s thigh – but she would make time for the right person.
She sat comfortably on the couch, bopping to some music from her phone. June only broke out her artwork when the door of the shop opened and did the usual ding. It was most likely an employee, so she looked up and gave a small smile. “Ah, another early bird too?” June called out, putting her stuff down to stretch her arms out.
Sleep was proving to be a bastard to obtain, so instead of laying there in her bed, she decided to get an early start on work. Not that there was anything pressing to do. Pushing through the staff door, she frowned when the alarm didn't go off - hadn't it been locked?
“Ah, another early bird too?”
That also made sense - someone else beat her in.
"Not necessarily," she replied, stepping out into the parlor, "Couldn't sleep."
It wasn't a lie. She couldn't sleep. Hayes went over to her own work station and sat in the chair, dropping her bag at her feet before dragging her hair up into a bun. She had nowhere else to be, she couldn't go to the gym - not with her hand so bruised, so working out was not an option before work.
She quirked an eyebrow, clocking the look of Hayes’ hand. But she decided not to say anything too much. June hadn’t been around too much, to work with Hayes. There was already a limited time that June was around the shop. Schedules rarely seemed to line up, but June knew her coworkers enough. Maybe it was the fact that Hayes mainly seemed to do piercings when June was on the clock. June was a bit of a snoop and enjoyed seeing the work of her co-workers. There were a lot of different styles.
“That’s fair. It has been a bit busy, especially with the last-minute pieces coming up. Has your schedule been busy?”
“That’s fair. It has been a bit busy, especially with the last-minute pieces coming up. Has your schedule been busy?”
Hayes wasn't even sure why this woman was bothering to talk to her, they didn't know each other. Sure, Hayes was aware of June, been in the shop when she was interviewed and seen her around, but as always, she was busy. If it wasn't ink, it was some body part that people wanted done and that was the most of it.
"It's a mixed board, leaning mostly on the fuller side, but its hand it moments of quite which allows me to do other things," she shrugged, pinning up her hair as she sat at her station, "And you?"
“A lot of esthetician stuff right now. I have a few mastectomies scar covers planned, so I will be in more than usual. Which either the boss man will like or get annoyed about,” she laughed. Dante didn’t matter either way if something was bringing in money. Granted, he was kind of stuck grandfathering June in due to the history she had with the shop. There was something about having an OG come back to bring in a different kind of clientele.
She got along with everyone, at least to the point of being able to chat with people and be friendly to their faces. June was the oldest person at the shop anyway, most of everyone under 30. It made some weird dynamics, and with her schedule – she could be an anomaly.
