aisy’s shift was finally over, and she was kind of bummed about it. Unlike most people, Daisy enjoyed the early mornings of work. The silence of the shop was welcomed, as it allowed her to enjoy her work in peace. Daisy would get the rowdy sounds of the orchard later in the day.
She picked up some cupcakes and other goodies, the ones that were a day old. Her boss wasn’t one to let things go to waste, and Daisy would never say no. Plus, she fed the homeless and those that wanted some on her way home. Today though, it was different.
Daisy had made an appointment to go over a tattoo. It wasn’t something she had planned on doing, but she was a free-will kind of gal. She had emailed a few times from the library computer and made a few phone calls. The shop was busy which she figured. Summer and Spring seemed to be the time to get inked up. Daisy wasn’t fully in the books yet, herself. She just wanted to see if it was something that the artist was interested in or not.
The tattoo shop wasn’t too far of a walk, and the sun was out – highlighting the light freckles Daisy was beginning to show. Goodies in hand like little Red Riding hood, Daisy opened the door to the shop. There were a few clients and artists. A friendly grin crossed her lips as she approached the desk.
“Good morn’! I’m looking for a mister…” Daisy stopped for a second. “A mister Dante? I have a consultation with him today!”
Dante placed the silver key into the box on the building wall and turned it to the right, watching as the metal security shutter rose all the way to the top, disappearing from view. He’d recently taken ownership of the business and was figuring out how everything worked. He’d spent half his life in the tattoo shop his mother owned so it wasn’t rocket science. His father had tasked him with finding some decent business to add to his collection, preferably ones that money could easily be laundered through.
He opened the door and walked inside, switching on the lights as he headed to the office. He heard the door ring behind him and he glanced back briefly, nodding to his employee as he started setting up the shop for customers. Something he didn’t have to worry about doing. He spent half of the morning going through the paperwork that was left behind and sorting it all out.
Needing a break, he moved back into the front of house and sat at the front desk, looking up when the door opened to reveal a woman who was clearly full of sunshine. Wonderful. “Good morn’! I’m looking for a mister… A mister Dante? I have a consultation with him today!” He refrained from rolling his eyes at the chipper woman, internally reminding himself he needed customers to cook the books and instead gave the woman a charming smile ”Buenos Días. That would be me”

h perfect!” Daisy smiled, adjusting the strap of her purse on her shoulder. “I have a few sketches with me. They’re not perfect…but you’re the expert!” Daisy wasn’t the artist some of her farm cronies wished she was. If anything, she had a lot of space for canvas though. Daisy was a bit more rotund, her arms and legs were fit and allowed a good area to guide something over. She just had to make sure the ink took well to her.
Forgetting for a moment, daisy held up the box of cupcakes. “I also brought cupcakes, if you would like some?” Food always seemed to be a decent introduction, at least in Daisy’s world.
oh perfect! I have a few sketches with me. They’re not perfect…but you’re the expert!” Dante gave a nod glanced towards her bag at the mention of sketches before lifting his eyes back to hers. ”Of course. What type of tattoo are you after?” He asked. Once he knew the type of tattoo she wanted he could steer her in the direction of what artist to go for. He moved over to the consultation space in the reception area, sitting down on the couch, gesturing for the woman to sit too. “I also brought cupcakes, if you would like some?” A grin crossed his lips ”I’ll never say no to a cupcake.”

aisy followed the man to the consult chair and settled down. She placed the cupcakes on one of the side tables, but in reaching distance of the man. Daisy liked watching the man’s eyes light up. There was some thing about baked goods to make someone’s day.
After picking out her favorite sketches, she presented them to Dante. “It’ll be my first tattoo. I was thinking of keeping it simple, with black and grey lines. I bake a lot, but also work on a farm. The idea I’m leaning more towards is a French whisk with some apple blossoms around it. To play with both loves. I’ve also thought of getting the butter package. Like a jokey kind of piece? “
Dante reached for one of the cupcakes as she placed them down, unable to resist the sugar cravings that hit him the moment she’d mentioned she had brought them. He peeled the wrapper off before splitting the base in half and placing it on top of the buttercream, making a mini cake. “It’ll be my first tattoo. Like a jokey kind of piece? “ He took a mouthful of the cake as the woman spoke, listening to what type of tattoo she was thinking of getting whilst looking at the sketches she had brought with her. He finished the cake then took a sip of water to clear his mouth before speaking. ”Okay, if it’s a minimalistic tattoo you’re after, I can do that for you but if you’re looking for something with colours or more in depth detail I can grab another artist for you to talk to as that’s something I personally don’t do.”

aisy couldn’t help but look at the technique the man in front of her eating the cupcake. She smiled. “Classic move,” she commented. “I eat mine the same way,” Daisy added, giving him a playful wink. “I hope you like them.” It looked like he did, with the amount of vigor he appeared to eat the cake.
Daisy mulled over his words for a moment before responding. “I think keeping it simple would be the best, especially for the first tattoo. I also don’t quite know the size that would fit me best. I was thinking on the arm, that’s for sure.” Daisy didn’t know if she was being too vague, but he was the artist after all. He would have a better idea, at least that was what she hoped.
“Classic move, eat mine the same way, I hope you like them.” He looked up from the sketches and offered her a small grin. ”Only way to eat them in my opinion.” He stated. The buttercream to cake ration was well off if you ate it any other way. Turning it into a small cake was the perfect way to distribute everything evenly. “I think keeping it simple would be the best, especially for the first tattoo. I also don’t quite know the size that would fit me best. I was thinking on the arm, that’s for sure.” He glanced back at the sketch then back to the woman’s arms. ”The inside of your bicep could work? Unless you want it more on show? Then maybe just above your bicep on the outer side. I wouldn’t go too big with your first tattoo, you may end up hating it. . plus the bigger it is the more expensive.”

do want it to show more,” Daisy said, leaning back into the seat she was in. “I think the inner bicep would hide it too much.” Daisy wasn’t much of a think-ahead kind of person, but she knew a tattoo needed a lot more attention.
“I’d say medium size? Nothing too massive.” Daisy also was a bigger girl. She wasn’t super obese, but she wasn’t a model either. “Thoughts on the lower arm? Inner, close-ish to the wrist?”
I do want it to show more. I think the inner bicep would hide it too much.” He flipped open his notepad and grabbed a pencil to write down a few notes and sketch a rough idea. “I’d say medium size? Nothing too massive. Thoughts on the lower arm? Inner, close-ish to the wrist?” He nodded and glanced at her arm. ”That could work, not to hidden but not too exposed.” He spent a few more minutes on the paper in front of him before flipping it around to show her. ”A rough idea/example of what I could do” He said, showing two different ideas.
aisy watched in excitement watching the guy draw his ideas out. She was excited but nervous. Daisy could imagine her grandmother and grandfather looking at her with a look of disgust, but her siblings would be all about it. Her parents didn’t seem to care either. The hard part about it was keeping it covered for work. She didn’t want her family or Hazel to get worried about her.
She looked over the ideas he had presented and nodded to herself. “I like the whisk and spatula, with the flowers under it better. If we make the whisk a bit longer and maybe an apple in the rubber part of the spatula – then I love it!”
He glanced up every so often as he sketched the idea she had pitched him, trying to gage her reaction. “I like the whisk and spatula, with the flowers under it better. If we make the whisk a bit longer and maybe an apple in the rubber part of the spatula – then I love it!” He sat back while she looked over his drawing and listened as she gave her input. He noted her ideas and turned the book back to him, erasing parts of the sketch and adding in the other things she had wanted. "How's this?" He asked, sliding the book back around.

he patiently waited and when Dante finally turned the edits around, she looked at them. Maybe a bit longer than she realized. Daisy was envious of it, his skill to draw so beautifully. But not everyone could be good at everything, now, could they?
“It’s perfect!” she beamed as if some ray of sunshine shot out of her. “I can schedule the appointment now and do the partial payment if that works for you?” Daisy had briefly looked up how to do this whole appointment thing. The website had given some brief info, but it was mainly up to the artist being booked.
“It’s perfect! I can schedule the appointment now and do the partial payment if that works for you?” He nodded, satisfied that the woman was happy with the design. He glanced at his watch to check the time then looked back up to the blonde. ”I could squeeze you in now if you’re happy to go ahead today?” He asked. Dante flicked through the diary on the table, checking his schedule. ”or I can make an appointment for next week?”

aisy thought about what was offered before smiling again. “Let’s schedule for something next week. I don’t believe I feel prepared enough to go straight for it today. I would appreciate a pamphlet or something. Or just more info on what to do for a first tattoo.” It sounded a bit wimpy, but Daisy didn’t trust herself to go in all the way. She worked at a farm and in a bakery, places that could deal with a lot of germs. Something Daisy remembered was important about tattoo care.
