Emma couldn’t sleep. And why should see? It was still early. Unfortunately, being new in town, she didn’t have a lot of friends yet and she didn’t have much to do. Therefore, she found herself sitting at home curled up in bed watching Gilmore Girls and hoping to doze off... It didn’t take long for Emma to throw the sheets off her bed, throw on a pair of shorts and a cropped hoodie, slip on her sneakers, and grab her bag as she threw herself out the door.
Emma found herself on High Street. It was full of businesses and shops - lots of opportunities for her to keep herself busy. Unfortunately, many businesses closed at 5, so her options weren’t as large as she was hoping for originally. That being said, she wasn’t without any hope. She strolled into a little shop with its open sign on. She stroke up a conversation with the store clerk - ending up in a deep conversation about his whole family. She came out with a new pocket knife and a shiny new keychain with her initial “E” on it. Oh, and a big bright smile from her talk with the cashier.
Emma sat down on a little bench by a tree and pulled out her trinkets. They were small and sweet but it was a distraction from the lonely reality of being new in town. She opened and closed the knife several times before slipping it into her hoodie pocket and began fiddling with her new keychain.
