Welcome to Hickstead, home to both Seven Oak Stables, and Blue Acre - two rival stables. Both offer opportunities for their clients to reach the highest level of excellence. Each stable differs from the other, so choose wisely and never forget, loyalty is everything... Meanwhile as the stables battle it out, there's trouble brewing at the university. Be careful, if you don't pick a side you may get caught in the cross-fire...

Cara blew out a breath as she finished taking off her tracksuit and pulling her navy blue jacket. Her nose curled as she noticed the jacket seemed a little large on her, but there was nothing she could do about that right now, and she circled her shoulder to get it sitting properly. There was a tiny voice in the back of her head, telling her she shouldn't be doing this, that she had told herself that she wasn't going to put herself through this anymore, and yet, here she was.
Walking out to her huge mount, she once again questioned the sanity of her choices, but there was nothing she could do about that now, and if she allowed the thoughts too much attention, she would just make herself ill, and she didn't have time for that. "We're just going out there to have fun." That inner voice called her a liar, but she pushed it away again as she made sure the stallion looked perfect, and that he hadn't rubbed the yellow ribbon she had threaded through the palit on his tail off. "Parfait!" She swapped the halter for his bridle, led him over to the fence and used that to mount him. "This is just like any other day in the arena." She soothed as he shifted under her while she tightened the girth and pushed her feet into the stirrups. "No pressure."
Even after a long warm up, while they were waiting for the bell, the stallion still felt tense under her, and Cara released a long breath, blowing out the tension in her body, a smile curving her lips as the grey did the same. "Let's show them what you can do." She gave the her horse a pat as the bell sounded and she asked for him to pick up his trot as they entered at A and headed toward X.
It seemed that all her worries about the stallion had been for nothing, as soon as he'd entered the arena, he had just flowed, and a slight shift in her weight was all he needed to know what to do next as he worked nicely on the bit, his body held nicely, tail flowing out behind him as he showed off to the people watching. And she had a feeling that the test was well and truly below both of their abilities as they trotted back down the centre line and halted to give their final salute and exited the arena on a long rein. "Magnifique mon garçon!" She said with a smile as she gave him a pat and they headed back.
Hazel had never entered a competition before, but with the way the horses had been going, she felt like it was time to have a go and see what came of it. She was proud of the way Cobalt was looking right now, and she patted the gelding as they walked a circuit of the warm up ring, ready to enter. She liked to give the horse a few moments break before the ring so that he could relax for a moment, take another look around, and feel settled before taking the contact back up and setting off for the big thing.
Her name was being called, and Hazel gathered her reins, murmuring to the gelding softly. They took a couple of laps of the outside before the bell rang to start the test, and Hazel made sure not to rush anything, letting go of a long breath before she turned up the centre line in a measured pace. She had gone through the test so many times, she could do it in her sleep, but she made sure not to lose focus, concentrating so hard that a frown appeared between her brows. She felt a circle was a little too wide, and then another caved in a little, and one of her transitions felt late, but Colbalt shone and did everything he needed to do for her. Patting him proudly as they exited the ring, she gave the dark horse his head so he could shake it off and relax, ready to get all the carrots he would want back at the trailer.
Savannah was pleasantly surprised Duncan had agreed to watch her at the show. She didn't mind either way - horses weren't really his thing anyway. The brunette smiled at her boyfriend as he distracted Poppy as she got the bay mare ready. The two had practiced the dressage test with her coach, knowing it inside and out now - though the nerves were still there. Savannah decided to go with a traditional dressage outfit, buttoning her show jacket on after Poppy was tacked up and ready to go.
Once she was ready herself, she bridled the mare - doing up the various straps before leading the mare towards the warmup ring. Savannah tightened the girth and rolled down the stirrups, using the well-used mounting block to get on. The woman put the mare through her paces, glad the mare had quickly settled into the work. She kept her ears open for her name, hearing they were close to showing as they cantered both ways. Five minutes later it was their turn, Savannah pulling on the reins - walking the mare out towards the dressage arena.
She had a quick conversation with her coach before she began, picking up the working trot and headed down the center line. It was odd for them not to halt but they continued - turning right as they reached the end of the arena. The two maneuvered the pattern pretty well, having problems at one of the half circles and the first serpentine loop - Poppy tending to bulge out to the right. It was something Savannah had to ignore as there was more of the pattern to be ridden. The pair finally approached B, Savannah asking for the working trot right at the letter. The mare obliged and moved forward - Savannah steering the mare down the center line before halting and saluting at X. She loosened her grip on the reins, allowing the mare to stretch and lower her head as they exited the arena.
Savannah gave the bay mare a big pat on the neck - it had been awhile since she had competed herself but Poppy did great. "Great job, Pop." The woman knew they had a bit to work on, but she was proud of the youngster - steering her towards the barns, wanting a moment to catch her breath as she cooled her mare down.
Jameson 'Jamie' Hughs had made certain that his gypsy vanner, Fiver, was the clean. In fact, the horse was so clean, he pretty much sparkled. While he enjoyed having a mostly white horse, that enjoyment tended to disappear right before a show, as the work to make him studly for the judges took up a majority of his time. Thankfully, he still had time to study the test sheet and got the lay of the land earlier. Granted, he had been in the local Hickstead dressage arena so much over the years, Jamie practically had it memorized. He lead Fiver to the warm up arena now, mounting up, and put the gypsy vanner through his paces with the guidance under his coach, Aurora Skye. But like every competition, his time with her was short lived, and soon they were heading over to the waiting area.
The young man paid no attention to the other horse and rider in the arena - he just listened to his music and kept to himself, occasionally giving Fiver a pat. A wave caught his attention, their time was now. Yanking the ear pods out, he pocketed them and moved Fiver forward now into the arena. Already warmed up, the pair entered a working trot now and went down center line. He thought it odd there was no halting in the beginning today, but ignored that thought. Fiver was already working beautifully, so Jamie had a good feeling about today. They trotted their lines and executed the requested circles beautifully, Fiver always needed a little leg, but with no canters today, he would be easier to motivate.
To the half circles now, they were half way done. The hardest part was coming up - the serepntine. Lots of leg and lots of rein would be needed, and Fiver needed to bend to his will. The gypsy vanner seemed up for it though, all that grilling Aurora had done to them in the three weeks leading up really had paid off, "We're nearly home free, Fiver," he muttered under his breath when the judges couldn't see his lips. The finished at C, continuing the working trot before dropping to the extended walk which required the perfect amount of contact and squeezing for impulsion without going back to a trot. Fiver chewed the bit a little, his ears twitching, thinking through the commands for which he was asked. More rein was giving, and before long, they were asking for the working trot again once more as they turned towards center line. Jamie sat in the seat now, bringing Fiver to a halt to slaute. Once done, he let the reins free and they walked off.
Once outside of the arena, Jamie finally patted his horse excitedly, "You did great, Fiver! That might be our best show yet." He would defilingly be getting a congratulations. The walk back to the Blue Arces set up would be their cool down. There was no doubt Aurora may have some good critiques, but overall, Jamie was certain she would be pleased with them too.
I'm setting out into the great unknown, I don't know where I'm going but I'm ready
