With Summer vacations in full swing, Paige felt like she barely had time for her horse. She was ever thankful he was a saint, which meant the stable staff were more than happy to ride him around for her when she was off working the skies. Her most recent work trip required her to fly to Miami - which meant a few days on the Beach before flying back home. She was still a bit jet lagged, but that never stopped her from seeing Juno.
She parked her car in the parking lot of Seven Oaks and headed off to the gelding pasture. The grey gelding lifted his head and galloped toward her - a smile gracing the pale woman's face. Juno stopped in front of the gate, allowing Paige to duck under the gate and pull out a sugar cube from the back pocket of her pants. She laid it on her flat palm and Juno lowered his head, munching on the sugar cube. "Hey, I promise we'll have a dressage lesson this week. I won't have to do another international flight this month." She would have to discuss with the White's when they had time - she was thankful they were pretty flexible. Dressage was something new to the two of them as usually Juno was used to being hooked up to a carriage for a driving event.
Shit. Shit. Regan began running, faster and faster. He had snagged some food but had managed to get himself between a weird turf war. Or whatever it was that had started some arguing. But he couldn’t help himself, with the leftover catered food. He stuffed his bag as full as he could, feet sloshing in whatever mud and puddles there were from left over rain.
Regan really didn’t know where he was going. He knew it was possibly a farm or something with the fencing and equipment. The adrenaline kept him from stopping, until the last fence to jump. He attempted to, but his foot caught and he found himself on hands and knees in a damp, muddy pasture. “Fuck me,” he groaned, as he stood up – feeling the light pain of impact snake to his elbows and ankles. The food was safe, which was the best thing. It was thrown away steak with potatoes. Even if it had gotten squashed, he’d still eat it.
The grey gelding lowered his head, letting out a whinny as a greeting to his owner. The brunette lifted her hand and ran it along the horse's face. She let out a sigh, the stress of the work days washing away from her. The barn was somewhere Paige could really be herself. It was quiet, the only sound coming from horses munching on their round bale on the other side. This was all interrupted by the sound of someone or something hitting the ground.
Juno turned around first, followed by Paige. The woman raised her eyebrows at the sight of a younger male on the grassy ground. She approached him, slightly wary of what he would to do her if he felt threatened. "Hey, are you okay? That is an electric fence by the way, so be careful for burns." People didn't know about it if they didn't ride and being zapped was much worse than some scrapes and bruises. "Are you running from someone or something?" Her head swiveled quickly to assess her surroundings to make sure there wasn't a threat to herself or her horse.
He let out a grunt as the adrenaline was wearing off. When he was addressed, Regan was lucky that he wasn’t so on edge. But he was bummed he was caught. Granted, it was farmland – and only someone stupid like him would dare cross the threshold.
“Yeah...I’m fine…Is it? Well, I don’t feel anything yet.” Regan was sure he would feel it later, or sooner. Depending on how slow his body was going to slow down. “No idea. I just was trying to get away from a dangerous situation.”
Paige raised her eyebrow at the stranger. It seemed odd that someone would be running away - especially considering Seven Oaks was basically in the middle of nowhere. "It's to make sure the horses don't jump the fence. I take it you don't ride horses do you?" She had lived in Hickstead long enough to know most people who were riders. The gelding beside her turned and snorted at the younger human who was still laying on the ground.
"He won't hurt you, I know he is pretty tall." Juno was a relatively calm gelding - only a few things seemed to startle him. She took a few steps forward, wanting to see if the man on the ground was truly injured. "Is it a person you are running from? Can you at least let me have a look at you. I'm not a doctor or a nurse, but I have first aid." She knew some people were afraid of getting the authorities involved, but she didn't have the correct authority to do that. Paige was just someone who knew how much the electric fence hurt. It was something you touched once and then learned your lesson about it.
