While Jameson “Jamie” Hughs had enjoyed his first year of University, he had been glad for summer to come and school to come to an end. All the ‘prepping’ that he had done in Secondary for what University school work would be like, and it still had hit him like a shock to the system – he had to fine tune his work ethic, note taking, and multi-tasking, but it all turned out good in the end. Nearly top of his class for the then Pre-Vet majors said it all for Jamie. Hardly anyone gave him a challenge, well, expect for one or two people. None of that mattered now though, since it was summer vacation, and summer vacation meant spending almost every day at the barn when he could get away with it.
He didn’t care for staying at home too often right now, his mom was being a little weird now that his father was back in town for good – and this seemed to affect her more than usual. Perhaps because his stay was permanent. Jamie didn’t mind it too much, at least, he wasn’t like his mom. As far as he was concerned, Roman Hughs was okay in his book – when he wasn’t trying too hard, that is. Otherwise, it became downright awkward and time seemed to slow down, and not in good way either like it could with a girl. Jamie shook his head, as if dispelling the thoughts from his brain, his fluffy brunette hair bouncing to the rhythm, “Focus, Jamie.”
Thank god he had just gotten to the barn, his happy place, where nothing else mattered other than Fiver. They had no lessons on the docket today, given a show had happened the past weekend so his coach, Aurora Sky, had granted him and his gypsy vanner a solid two week break. Pulling in, blue eyes could not help but to notice that a certain ‘Helping Hooves’ pick up truck was parked there as well. It was a little observation that Jamie tucked into the back of his mind, telling himself that he would neither ignore it nor search out information regarding who might have arrived in said truck. Life would inform him soon enough.
Grabbing his backpack with his gear, he shut the car door, not bothering to lock it since teenage logic reassured him that with Blue Arces packed with riders and employees, the Prius was safe. Plus, who the heck would steal a Prius? The young man thought to himself. Heading into the barn now, Jamie made his way to Fiver’s stall when he passed by the grooming stations and a certain horse caught his attention. It was a horse that Jamie knew well all too well from friendly hacks. The black horse, uniquely dappled in white, stood in the cross ties while his owner was meticulously grooming him, “Hey Piper,” the young man said now, stopping and offering his typical sweet smile, “You and Boogey going for a hack? Fiver and I might join you if that’s okay.” He took a passing glance at the empty groom stall next to them. Do not ask. Do not ask, Jamie, and be bloody obvious, “Um, is Sabrina here also?”

Piper was looking forward to whatever she was about to do at Blue Acres. Boogey was itching for some hard work, and with the arena full at home – Blue Acres was the best bet. Teagan had dropped her off since Sabrina had a lesson at Seven Oaks.
As she was brushing Boogey, who was obviously getting antsy – she heard a voice call to her. Piper turned her head to Jameson. She had seen him quite a bit around the barn and campus. He was always friendly with her, though it was a treat when they first met. Jameson met Sabrina first, and like always – was surprised by the double.
“Hey Jameson! Yeah, Boogey is itching for a good long ride. Home space is a bit busy with a group of veterans, and I didn’t want to take up their space.” While Piper and Sabrina were fully welcomed too, it didn’t feel right. Boogey could get a bit rambunctious, so if there was any time a bit quieter was needed – Piper would happily move him somewhere to drain that energy.
She lifted an eyebrow at his following question. Piper wasn’t surprised, probably because she saw the interactions between him and Sabrina. “No, she has a lesson at Seven Oaks.” She peered at him. Not in a malicious way, but a tell me more information kind of way. “Why do you ask?” Piper asked, a bit slyly since he tended to get a bit flustered when her sister was mentioned.
As always, Piper Ledor-Kita greeted him with a friendly smile. If she was here, it must have been busy back at her home since Jamie knew that her family had their own horse property and rather large arena. The young woman just about confirmed it though when she mentioned a veteran class, "Ah! Well, Blue Arces is certainly lucky to have you grace us with your presence today," he joked now, "I am sure Boogey appreciates the chance to stretch his legs as well rather than be confined to the rules of sharing the arena." Jamie had seen the thoroughbred cross in action quite a few times, both from watching from the safety of the fence and also from behind as he and Fiver often got left behind in the dust on hacks. The young man was always impressed on how well Piper could handle her horse.
"No, she has a lesson at Seven Oaks,” Piper informed him. He couldn't help but to feel a tad bit of disappointment by this answer. Jamie supposed that's what he got for hoping, "Oh. Okay." Blue eyes then could not help but to notice the look that the young woman was giving him, it was not malicious, but sly almost, and it suddenly occurred to the Jamie that he might have given some sort of insight into his complex feelings about his sometimes friend, sometimes rival Sabrina Kita-Ledor, "Oh! Well, I, Uh..." Damnit, he was already stumbling. Suddenly he wished he was in Fiver's stall, it was always easier to burry his nerves into brushing his horse. Laughter escaped him now, nervous as he ran a hand through his mop of hair to calm himself down and play it cool, "I wanted to see if she saw the new update that Clover Lane is the last stop in our summer clinicals. I can't imagine she'd be too pleased, since that gives me homefield advantage and I didn't appreciate her out mastering me earlier this month at Helping Hooves. I'm sure you heard about my mess with Moo."
Hopefully, that would be enough to placate Piper's curiosity. In truth, that was something that Jamie had been curious about, but not exactly the reason why he had been asking about her possible presence at Blue Arces today. He just...simply wanted to see her, but it felt silly and illegal to mention such a thing, "Why does she ride at Seven Oaks? I would have thought that...well, you two would simply swapped barns with each other." The young man felt like it was a valid question, given that he knew Piper essentially had a boyfriend, who, like Jamie, appeared to dance around admitting feelings, but everyone could tell otherwise that they were essentially an item. And well, there was nothing wrong with Seven Oaks, but it just...well, it just wasn't Blue Arces.

Piper couldn’t help but grin at the stutter and nervous laughter. It was so damn cute. Almost sickening, and diabetic causing. Honestly, Piper was surprised that she and her sister would have found love as well as they did. Okay, not love – but at least crushes. However, Sabrina just needed to stop being stubborn about it.
“Oh, so you wanted to brag a bit?” Piper laughed. “No, I get it. It levels that experience for sure!” Some people would call Sarbina an ass for what happened, but honestly, Moo was like that with everyone. At least Jameson got a warning out of it. Some people were unfortunately not able to receive it because they decided to ignore the signs. “I don’t know, she might like watching you wrestle a ram down.” Piper didn’t know if that would add any kind of fuel to the flame, but it was something she knew was true. Sabrina always talked about how buff Jamie’s arms looked while lifting heavy things.
“She’s more dedicated to the sport than I, that’s for sure. Likes to get as many tips and tricks as possible. Since we don’t have a second opinion per se at home, she’s pushing herself to work with as many people as possible.” Frankly, Piper didn’t have the time or energy for it. School, riding, and work were already hard enough. But Sabrina was one of those people who preferred being busy. Downtime wasn’t her thing, especially when competitions were coming up.
"What can I say? The fragile male ego I have is just begging to brag," Jameson said jokingly now, "I probably had it coming with Moo anyways, I take 110% responsibility for allowing him to lure me into a false sense of tranquility." The horse had lured him into falsehood by adorably nibbling his hair and nuzzling his head, clearly, it had been a trap, since the second the hose got out, Jameson had ended up with a mud bath for himself instead of a water bath for the joker equine. He liked to think that he took it like a champ though, and it certainly had been a learning experience.
Blue eyes blinked at Piper's words, feeling his face flush, "Oh? She would?" His mind went places, and already found himself wondering how to work it into the clinical day and how to swing it with Kim Ryan, his boss, without making it seem too obivious from a stupid teenage boy desires. Actually, who was he joking, Kim could see through anything, just like Piper, "Well - I'll see if I can put on a show for her then." And of course, curiosity was already getting the best of poor Jameson, "Did Brina -er- Sabrina say that to you?" It was one thing if the young woman was just speculating, but if her twin sister actually said something to her, Jameson's head might just pop off.
Jameson wasn't surprised to hear that out of the two Ledor-Kita sisters, Sabrina was the one who took riding more seriously. Given how she took her school work and studies, it wasn't surprising to hear that dedication went over to her riding as well, "Huh, that is a curious way to do it. I guess I am just so used to staying with one coach." But to each their own. Jameson also knew though, that it was more polite to talk to Piper about herself rather than just his own subtle (or perhaps not subtle) feelings, "And hey, you and Boogey have a great bond. You certainly don't need any competition or ribbons to prove that." He said with a smile now.
