Savannah had closed up the grooming shop for the afternoon. It didn't seem that there were any appointments for the afternoon so she put Candy in her harness and leash before heading out on their afternoon walk. The main street was somewhere the two of them didn't go for walks often, but Savannah tried her best to change up where they went as often as she could.
The brunette walked along, allowing the female Frenchie to walk beside her - allowing Candy to sniff along the grass area beside the side walk. She glanced down the street to allow her dog some privacy when she recognized a familiar face. Savannah was shocked, having no idea Robin would follow her to Hickstead. She remembered her family raising him back in Ireland, a little sad when he left, but she felt that way with all of her foster siblings.
After checking on Candy and gently encouraging her to follow her, she approached Robin. "Well, when I started my walk I didn't ever think that I'd run into you!" She smiled, the piebald Frenchie coming up to sit beside her owner. "How long have you been in Hickstead?" The woman glanced at Robin, not believing that the young man she once knew had grown up - but so did she.
Hickstead had been treating Robin well. He had a lot of clients already, and he was making a good impression at the secondary school. The trek to work was a bit of a chore, but he preferred to live in Hickstead proper than the city. He was damned either way, so he chose to live in the area that would give him a bit more joy.
Robin sat outside at one of the tables in front of the Book Nook. His order of books had come in, and due to them also having a café – Robin ordered himself a coffee and began flipping through one of his books. He was mid-thought of picking out which one to read when a voice called out to him. His eyes looked up, and he smiled.
“Ah shit, hey Sav!” Robin greeted, standing up and giving her a big hug. “Not, that long actually. Fancy seeing you here as well. Can I treat you to a coffee or anything if you have the time?”
Savannah smiled as she received a hug, gently reciprocating it and patting him gently on the back before letting go. "I'd be worried you would have been here long and not have told me!" She glanced down at her dog, who was wiggling - always happy to meet new people. "Oh a coffee would be wonderful, and maybe a pastry. You pick, I don't think I've been here before."
The woman pulled out the seat across the table from where Robin was sitting and sat down, tying Candy's leash to the chair so she could have her hands free. "I do hope you don't mind the furry company. She's been at a coffee shop before so she'll be good." Thankfully the weather had proven to be warm again, so Candy could lay in the sunshine - a place where she loved to be anyway.
"How have you been since you left home? What made you follow me to a small little town like this?" She hung her purse across the back of her chair - making herself more comfortable. Savannah checked around her surroundings, not knowing that there was a bookstore on the main street. It showed she spent too much time at home and the grooming salon - which happened to be in the same building.
“Oh that’s totally fine! I’m sure you and her will happily guard the table,” he smiled. “I’ve been pretty good! Busy, which you know I like. I honestly didn’t know you would be here, but I guess the university works in mysterious ways.” If she had let him know, Robin would’ve reached out. But life always kept everyone on their toes.
“I’ll be right back since I know the café can get a line.” Robin walked inside and got Sav the special Lavender Honey Latte, iced – and some of their shortbreads. He also got himself another coffee and a panini since why not? He had a feeling he would be here for a minute.
Robin walked back, card number standing in hand before sitting back down. “So, what exactly brought you here to Hickstead?” he asked back, making sure his bookmark was tucked away nicely before putting the book in his bag.
Candy realized they were going to stay for awhile so she laid down under the table. Savannah checked and made sure she placed her feet beside the dog. Savannah nodded, guarding the table was something she could do - though there were plenty of others for new comers to use if need be. "Perfect, what is keeping you busy anyway?" She had wondered what he had gotten into - acting seemed to be what she remembered him enjoying.
"Let me know what I owe you though!" She called as he left to go stand in line. Savannah would feel terrible if she didn't at least offer to pay for her drink and snack. She made herself comfortable and it wasn't long before Robin came back. "Were you there when Duncan was living with us in Ireland? Well, funny story but we are dating so, we both moved here because of his job." It wasn't exactly the truth, but Savannah didn't really feel like going into it - especially in public. "What about you? Did work bring you here?" Hickstead seemed to bring people together from all over the world though, she had met some of them coming into the pet store.
“Yeah, mainly work. I did travel a bit but decided I wanted to have a stable root system. It still gives me a chance to do what I want over the summer, but not having to constantly look for work is nice. I’m at the point where I’m able to control what I put out.” It took a long time to get there, but it was nice. He didn’t feel the need to constantly advertise himself out there as much. His name and reputation were known enough that people came to him.
It didn’t take long for their order to come out and Robin thanked the staff. He took a sip of his beverage. “So how long have you been in town now?”
Savannah nodded, she had a feeling it was work that brought him to Hickstead. Though it wasn't as much of an acting city as London, it wasn't that far away if Robin needed to travel. "Are you an actor now? I always knew it was something you would stick with." It was always fun for her to keep track of her siblings interests, even if they weren't biological. Her parents did their best to make each of them feel special, encouraging them to do what they enjoyed. "Have you been in any movies or TV shows recently?" She did try her best to keep track of all the foster siblings, though she wasn't able to with the ones that had arrived after she moved away from home.
"Just about a year now. I do love Dublin and all but it was a bit too busy. They were in need of a dog groomer so I set up my own salon in town shortly after. What do you think of the town so far?" Savannah thanked Robin for her drink and took a sip, glad for another caffeine hit. The brunette dipped her head down to check on her dog. Candy found a comfortable spot in the shade of the table. She sat back up, pulling out a water bottle for Candy and with the press of a button insured the dog had fresh water should she want it.
