van hadn’t particularly planned on surprising Mina. If anything, she probably already knew he was back – but with settling in, and finally getting a job – he felt prepared to see her. He was excited, but also nervous. Almost a decade had they been apart. While there were some light communications there, there was something about seeing each other in person.
He was prepped with almost everything she liked. A new set of Legos, some new art, chocolate, and a bouquet. One could say he was courting her, but Ivan knew what she liked. Plus, they were both children at heart, and the gifts were in a non-denominational holiday wrapping. So it could be seen as a last-minute holiday gift-giving on his end. In reality, he had run out of time to find other papers.
Ivan was told she was at the flats now, and that was easy enough to find. He managed to get her apartment number from her family and was thrilled, a bit more than he had expected, that he was planning on seeing her.
When he found her spot, Ivan stood in front of the door and placed the bag of gifts down before pushing the doorbell. He hoped she was home, as the weather was not exactly pleasant to stand in for too long. Eventually, a voice crackled over, and Ivan smiled. “Hey, Minnie! It’s me, Ivan. Can I come up?”
She was building with spare lego parts by the glow of candlelight and strung up fairy lights of all shapes and sizes. Mina didn't know why, but the evening told her that she wanted to be an romantic mood - no overhead glaring lights allowed! Every once in a while, her phone would vibrate on the table, causing a squeal to escape her as she reached for it and eagerly type back. While she thought her antics were adorable, Faerie, her norwegian forest cat, did not and every time the phone rattled the table or the young woman's antics got to be too much, Faerie would shove a lego piece off the table with her paw. And every time the cat did it, chocolate brown eyes shot her a glare because it was like her cat always knew what piece she had been going for.
The revelation of the lego masters television show - while American - had gotten to her. Mina had been blown away by the challenges, especially when it came to the fashion like ones which one time had included making a hat. A hat! So the young woman found herself experimenting now to see if she could figure out a method to the madness for designing lego jeweler. Just for fun of course, but Mina thought it could be a new technique for her thoughts outside of sketching in the shop and then doing the mock up in the computer with photoshop. Well, she'd never present a Lego piece to a client as a mock up - Gideon would probably tackle her to the ground - but it was still fun to be adventurous with it.
Mina had been so wrapped up that when her apartement's intercom buzzer went off, it nearly caused her to jump out of her skin. Who the heck could be buzzing her at this time in the evening? As far as she knew, she had no plans. Chocolate brown eyes looked quizzically at Faerie, who just stared back at her. Getting up, the young woman walked over to the intercom now, a gentle thud behind her signaled that the large cat decided to follow her, "Uh, hello?" she asked. Mina had expected any number of voices come through that intercom but for some reason, despite her recent runaway imagination, she had not expected fucking Ivan Lee Park's voice: "Hey, Minnie! It’s me, Ivan. Can I come up?"
"OH SHIT!" It just came out, no cool, and she looked wildly at her cat, "Faerie! It's Ivan! What do I do?" A meow escaped the cat, its green eyes still locked on her hand on the intercom and when Mina glanced at her hand - she wanted to die. She never took it off the intercom. Ivan Park literally just heard everything. If she had been an anime character, her major freak out scene would have just dropped, "YES! ER, I mean, yes Iv, you can come up." She hit the unlock door fast on the intercom to end that moment in her life. Her face was flushed, she could feel it already and she had to get it under control as she opened up her own door and waited - trying to relax even though the jitters for creeping up on her. Faerie, to her credit, sat down by her feet and peered out into the hallway, being her silent sentinel until her owner's childhood crush appeared.

e couldn’t help but smile at the inner thoughts that she had hoped to keep inner. That was one of the few things that Ivan enjoyed about her. While others could see her talking to herself or relaying her thoughts out loud – he liked it. There was something about it keeping the silence at bay. Granted, there were times when there was silence between them. But Ivan missed her idle chatter. He met so many people now that didn’t know what fun imagination was.
After hearing the buzzer go off, allowing him to enter – Ivan opened the door and made his way to Mina’s flat. He gave a knock, the one he would use when they would have secret meetings in her family’s playhouse. Well, before it blew over in a storm. Then the knock became something of a memory, so he was impressed with himself that he had remembered it at all.
When the door opened, Ivan just ignored the verbal greeting and wrapped his arms around her. He held her there for a moment, before parting. Like some K-Drama love interest, he held up the bags with a big toothy grin. “I have things for you!”
Her heart was beating so fast, Mina could not help but to wonder if she would literally die before her childhood friend made it up to her flat. Would he come to find her dead on the ground, heart attack ridden while her cat would mourn over her? Who was she kidding, Faerie wouldn't mourn over her. He'd just go and knock over all the succulents in her house because the young woman wouldn't be there to yell at him any more. She began to pace wildly, the large cat simply watching her from his new spot on the couch, "This cannot be happening, this cannot be happening. What if he mentions the avocado incident?!" Could he have really have spotted her during that evening at the produce store? Faerie didn't have time to answer her with a meow or a perturbed glare either because was a knock at the door.
Mina stopped dead in her tracks, her brown eyes looking over at the door. She took a deep breath or two, "You got this, Mina. You are a grown ass woman who does not melt into puddles over cute ghosts of childhood's past." She crossed the threshold and swung the door open. Immediately, the young woman felt blinded by a bright smile, and was it her imagination or was there bokeh effect everywhere and the distinct sound of Darl+Ing by SEVENTEEN playing. Mina opened her mouth, attempting to sputter something of a hello and launch into some sputtering of words when the distance between them magically closed and she was folded into a big, warm hug.
Was it possible for time to literally stop? Because Mina felt that way, with Ivan Lee Park hugging her and smelling like some sort of woody flower musk. It shocked her senses like electricity, and then, just like that, the hug was over and he pulled back, flashing her that smile again and holding up gifts, "Oh Ivan! You didn't have to do that," Mina said sheepishly, laughing because she literally had no idea what else to do. Wait, maybe let him into her flat rather than let him stand out there with his stuff. Mina stepped aside, swooping out her right arm dramatically to welcome him inside, "Welcome to my abode." It was hard to believe that Ivan was now standing in her pastel pink fairy light sanctuary but here he was, all 5 foot and 10 inches of him, "I can't believe you're here...Why?" Man, her brain to mouth filter really was betraying her today, "I mean, since I wasn't expecting you and it's been a while since college." Que insanely nervous laughter now, she was going to have to get a grip soon or she was going to spontaneous combust into flame, "Here, let me take those for you, Ivan!"

van made a wow motion with his face. “This place is so beautiful, Mina!” he complimented, and he meant it. It was her, and very much what he expected from her. Not in a bad way, but in a way that she never let herself get dulled out. Not that he would judge her if she went for something a bit less. But it was nice to see that her personality was the same.
“Ah, I know,” Ivan said with an apologetic face. “Your family said it would be better to surprise you. They said you were busy with work, and I figured it was better to see you in person – instead of texting.” He let her grab the flowers but kept his other gifts close to him. Ivan had an order to it all, since one – they would get obsessed over and start building before the other one was open.
“Once those flowers get into some water, I want you to open this first,” Ivan instructed, hoping up the one that held the artwork. It was neatly wrapped in sparkly gold with a cloth bow around it.
This whole situation was so unreal to Mina. She couldn't believe after all of these years, and as an adult, that Ivan Park was now just standing here in her tiny apartment. And admiring it, no less. His compliment of her digs made her flush a little, so stupid, the young woman didn't even know why as nervous laughter escaped her, "Ah, thanks you. On Wednesdays, I still build pillow and tent forts to watch tv under. Just like...you know." Way back when they were still kids. Mina was itching to do something with her hands all of the sudden, such as just grabbing her space buns and pulling at them, but she managed to resist such temptation.
That apologetic smile that Ivan gave her made her want to melt into some puddle on the ground like the Wicked Witch, or maybe more like cotton candy glitter slime. That seemed more up her alley, "They did?!" Shit Mina, get a grip. The young woman made a mental note to blow up her sibling's phone though after this evening as payback. Although, her family had been right, she had been busy, "Yeah, a lot of people like to surprise propose on the holidays. And they either love the premade ring or come back to return it, and ask me to design it." Well, sometimes they asked Gideon also, but those were minor details. She wanted to brag, damnit! And nobody was going to stop her.
Although, maybe she should go put these flowers in a face. Quickly, she excused herself and let her pink fluffy socks carry herself into the kitchen where she grabbed a rose gold vase to fill up with water, before placing the flowers on them. Carefully, she placed them on the kitchen window, figuring that they would best be safe there from the cat and get the sunlight they needed, "These really are beautiful Ivan. Did you get these at Maewha?" The young woman walked back into her living room only to find Ivan handing her another beautifully wrapped gift. This was getting a little overwhelming, her brain on full overload now.
Reaching out, she carefully plucked the package from him and unwrapped it as best as she could. The wrapping paper hit the floor, and Faerie was quick to pounce at it. But all what Mina had her eyes on was the bright pop art infront of her, colorful and odd, but it spoke to her, "Ah! This is so cute. I think I know right where to hang it too." Chocolate brown eyes looked to Ivan now, "You didn't have to this, you know," she said with a smile. And while the gifts were nice, Mina could not help but to wonder, "So are you just visiting your family in Hickstead for the holidays and then whisking back to Baltimore?"

know,” he said. “I felt the need to, and I wanted to.” Maybe in his mind, it was to make up for the fact he had missed so many birthday and holiday calls. Ivan didn’t know why they lost touch so many years ago. Was it the distance? That felt like an excuse though, since he stayed in touch with his family. But there wasn’t much room in his mind to think about what ifs, it was more about the current.
“Ah, I’ll be here for a long time,” he smiled, not knowing what her reaction would be. “I moved back full time. Decided it was time to come back. My parents were happy, so I’m living with them for a moment before I try and find a place of my own.”
Once Mina felt situated with her other gifts, Ivan held up the other beautifully wrapped gift. “This is the last one, I promise!”
Mina did her best to not dwell on what her best friend could have meant by the words of 'I felt the need to, and I wanted to'. That was a statement that she could get far too carried away with given their history and then lack therefore of over the past ten years. The young woman knew that she had not been the greatest communicator, Ivan didn't shoulder all of the blame in this lapse of time. It was funny. Mina had found it so easy to obsess over since her near run in with Ivan in the avocado section of the super market, and so easy to obsess over to her her friends, but now, here in the moment, it was easier to let go of those feelings.
It was, however, surprising to hear that he was moving back for good, "You are?" Okay, so that was probably not the most graceful reaction to what he had just told her, but Mina felt like it was warranted, if for nothing else but her own feelings. She didn't know how to take that information, or what it meant for her brain, or what it meant for her relationship with Danny. The young woman shook her head now, mostly so she could clear her own thoughts - now was not the time to spiral, "Sorry. I'm just surprised. Your sister made it sound like you were quite happy with your situation in America."
Guess there was hardly any time to dwell anyways, since Ivan was handing her one last beautifully wrapped gift. Mina couldn't help but to laugh as she took it, "I think my hands are getting full. Here, let's get situated in the living room. Do you need tea or coffee?" she asked now, nodding for her to follow her to the couch, "I think it's a little too early for wine and all what I have is rosé anyways." She placed her stuff down carefully now before inspecting the paper of the last gift, "So tell me everything I guess. What's been up with you?"
