Ashley grew up in the outskirts of dublin, ireland with her older brothers - james and chris. The three of them often visited their cousins lily, leo and logan in england, mostly to get away from their dad who was an abusive alcoholic pretty much 24/7 and their not so great mother - who stood by and watched it happen. when james left ireland to move to hickstead, Ashley hated that she couldn't go with him, especially when their father turned his abuse on the two remaining siblings now James wasn't there to protect them. she counted down the days until she finally turned sixteen and was legally allowed to leave home. she told chris she was leaving, packed a bag and hopped on the first ferry to england, moving to hickstead to live with her eldest brother and cousins - leo, lily and logan.
Not long after moving to the town, she met the love of her life, damon thornton. they had been dating a couple of months when Ashley eventually met damons brother, Jason. there was no denying it, Jason was insanley attractive. now Ashley was happy with damon. . so she thought but when Jason started hitting on her, she couldn't resist his charms or the fact that a guy like him would fancy a girl like her. they ended up in bed together, fooling around for a few weeks in a short affair until the guilt set in and the realisation that she loved damon more. before she could even break things of with jason, damon caught them and she would never forget the look on his face - shock, betrayal, hurt. she'd crushed him and it almost broke her. she'd been a stupid naïve child and would regret that moment for life. not long after she found out she was pregnant and had no idea who the father was.
Ashley spent the next few months being miserable. she texted damon an apology every day until he finally cracked and met up with her. after weeks of talking he finally gave her a second chance, not that she deserved one but she took it all the same. that second chance came with a condition, they had to leave hickstead. she hated leaving her family but she had to put her relationship first for the sake of her baby. They ended up moving to Massachusetts when Damon was accepted onto the Harvard Law programme. Ashley gave birth to a son over there and unfortunately it was clear as day the kid was Jason's but Damon loved him as his own regardless. She continued her own education, finding a college nearby that had a vet nurse course with an on campus day care, which was a lifesaver. Whilst in America, family secrets were uncovered and her brother james had found out their dad wasn't actually his dad. their uncle - leo, lily and logan's father was in fact his dad. It was hard hearing the news over the phone and not in person since she wanted to be there for her brother but she supported him as much as she could from afar. Ashley loved their little bubble in the states but when Damon graduated, she figured it was time they headed back home. She missed her family and after some convincing, Damon agreed.
