While Emma’s sense of smell was occupied by nostalgic senses of the barn, her hearing noticed when she heard someone talking in the barn. She took a step forward and listened closely. She couldn’t tell what they were saying, but it sounded like they were talking to someone else and Emma realized she definitely wasn’t alone in the big barn. She tilted her head to the side, curious, but non-judgemental, wondering. Maybe they were talking to someone in a stall and she simply couldn’t see. Then again, maybe they were talking to the horses. Goodness knows Emma talked to her animals back home all the time - they made the best listeners.
“Charm!” Emma heard the person suddenly cry out from a stall in the barn. She jumped a little, concerned at whatever just happened. She glanced around, not noticing any other people in the barn and started walking forward, wondering what might have happened and worried whether or not the guy was okay. "Pity you aren't as charming as your name." When she heard him talking again, she supposed he must be okay and she slowed her pace, taking a step towards a stall nearby. She knew better than to physically interact with a horse she didn’t know, but she could appreciate them and she smiled and whispered a small “hi there darlin” to the beautiful creature. “Welcome to Blue Acres.” Emma smiled at the guy walking out and started walking towards him, closing the space between them.
"I'm Mik. Can I help you with anything?" Emma nodded her head and stepped up to Mik with her southern confidence and ADHD-riddled soul “Yes, you absolutely can. Mik, right? That’s a cool name, sounds like some really cool, dark, mysterious, sunglass-wearing, motorcycle-driving badass, ya know what I mean? Not someone who talks to horses, although, I talk to horses myself. But, my name’s Emma, not something cool like Lola or Scarlett, just Emma. I’ve been told it’s a simple name but I think it’s sweet but I’m okay either way, it’s not like my name defines who I am, but… yeah, I’m Emma, it’s nice to meet you.” Emma gave Mik a bright smile and stook her hand out to shake his.
Emma was absolutely over the moon about seeing Seven Oaks and her bubbly, giddy self couldn’t physically contain her excitement for the idea of being around horses again. She had always struggled to keep herself in check - classic case of ADHD. Her parents had always gone the natural approach - and being so active with the ranch had managed to keep a lot of energy in check. But, she still struggled, especially here as she didn’t have the chance to get her energy reigned, so to speak. Nevertheless, she was happy. Unfortunately, her happiness was thrown off a bit when she collided with another individual after reaching the barn.
Emma hit the ground with a thud. “Oof” To be fair, it was a pretty common occurrence. She was a complete clutz and spent her fair share of time on her rear-end. She had no balance, and was quite used to it. So, instead of crying out or anything, she shook her head and giggled before looking up to apologize to the boy standing in front of her.
Emma crossed her legs on the barn floor and grinned up at the boy, offering her sweetest southern smile before her twang of drawl came out… she was a rambler. “Oh, hi there darlin. Am I new or looking for someone? Well, aren’t you just a peach and a half, so sweet of you to ask me about myself. But, I have to say, I do sure apologize about running into you like that. See, I have this issue. I call it the energizer bunny issue. I just can’t help myself, I get so excited. But, it’s no biggy, I’m really honest a huge clutz and to be fair my tush is probably the toughest tush on the planet by now, but oh my goodness I’m talking about my tush in front of a complete - I am so sorry, I do apologize… for the tush comment… and bumping into you… and rambling on like that…” Emma gave the boy an apologetic grin as she stood up and shrugged her shoulders innocently.
Blue Acre Stables. When Emma chose Hickstead to settle down in, she had heard it was a horse-crazy area. There were several barns, stables, and ranches around that boasted plenty of opportunities to get involved. She was anxious to feel at home again in the saddle, around an arena, and walking through a pasture. She had grown up spending all her free time on her Grams and Pops’ ranch and missed it.
One of the bigger, more well-known stables in the area appeared to be Blue Acres. Anyone who spoke of it never failed to mention something praiseworthy - from the high expectations of their competitive riders, to their high quality amenities. They were a stable with pride etched into their souls. Emma wasn’t overly confident or haughty - but she would admit that winning was fun. She was in need of a new competition horse anyway and maybe Blue Acres could help her out.
She hadn’t settled on a barn just yet but she knew Blue Acres had a good reputation and decided to check it out. She donned a more “crisp and clean” outfit today - no holes in her jeans, no oversized hoodie, and a cowgirl hat instead of her Hooey trucker cap. She took her new truck through the car wash and then drove up to the stable property. Getting out, Emma breathed in the scents and took a look around the sights briefly. As soon as she spotted the barn, Emma moved forward. She walked with purpose - like she belonged there - and smiled when her feet hit the inside of the barn.

Emma finished up her shift at the tack & feed store. She had opened today so she managed to get off with a nice chunk of afternoon left. That gave her plenty of time to do some exploring. And she knew exactly where she wanted to go. She had spent her whole life around horses - not to mention lots of other farm animals and everything that goes with a good southern ranch life. Her parents owned a classic home in a small older neighborhood, but her Grams and Pops owned a large ranch with pastures, a small campground, riding trails… she spent almost every day of the summer there, most weekends, and most afternoons, too.
Since moving here, she hadn’t gotten back to her roots just yet. She had chosen Hickstead because she’d heard of the large equestrian community - multiple stables, ranches, and farms. Seemed like the kind of place she’d enjoy being around.
Therefore, Emma found herself driving up to Seven Oaks this afternoon. She parked her truck, slipped on her jacket and hat, and slowly stepped out like she belonged there. She was giddy with excitement but trying to keep her cool. Emma took a deep breathe. Oh, how she missed the smell of this. She smiled and practically skipped to the barn. She slowed her pace when she got close - making sure not to scare any nearby horses but couldn’t wipe the grin off her face when she stepped inside.

Elle x Emma Oooooo I like the vibe that these two could encounter! Emma isn't shy from those with an age gap because she's got such older siblings and she's always had good relationships with them. If she's a part-time mechanic, maybe that's how they first meet? Like, Emma might try to save money by purchasing an older vehicle and end up needing help or ending up on the side of the road because she's not used to driving in the UK and gets nervous or something.
Adalia X Emma
Oh, I love the idea of them joining a class and ending up class buddies! Emma wants to join a stable but she first wants to get herself settled and calm before she throws herself back into that passion so joining a class would be the perfect way for her to get out there. She's got a small amount of creative history due to her mom but she's NOT a natural artist. She enjoys is but her talents have always been on the horse.
Sam x Emma
Awww! I ADORE pairing Emma with shy guys (as friends of course). She's a big talker and has such high energy that shy people don't typically mind her. She kind of just takes the lead and doesn't mind if they're quiet or uncertain because she's usually got enough confidence for everyone in the room. I'd guess she'd immediately be drawn to a shy lad like Sam and want to make him smile.
Zac x Emma
Zac sounds a bit like Emma's late fiance, to be honest. He was known as the school bad boy. Emma called him out on his crap but also enjoyed his antics - no matter how irritating they were. I could see a lot of fun twists between these two. Emma could definitely get annoyed but she'd also see him as a challenge of sorts.
When Emma chose to move to Hickstead, she made the decision because she’d heard it was ripe with horse riding and was home to good ranches and stables. While many of her school friends were riding bikes and competing in sports with ball, Emma was riding horses and competing with barrels and poles. Therefore, Emma had spent her fair share of time in tack and feed stores.
When Emma turned eighteen, she was introduced to her inheritance from her paternal grandparents. Turns out they were quite well off. They’d lived decently but never flaunted their finances - mostly because they were saving it for their children and grandchildren. Because of this, Emma had plenty of money to her name. She had enough to move herself and a few bags of luggage across the ocean from Tennessee to Hickstead, UK. She could afford an apartment of her own and didn’t need to work anytime soon. However, she was also brought up with enough book smarts to know she couldn’t rely on that forever and needed a steady income.
Because of these two facts, Emma found herself at the local Tack & Feed. She had a job stacking shelves at the local farmers market, but it only brought in so much money. She knew she needed something more. She’d worked at a local feed store during high school so she had a bit of experience and thought this might be a good fit - she had experience and she knew enough to get buy - even in a different country.
Emma put on a bright smile and opened the door to the store, resume in hand and ready to show her best self to the owner - a Mrs. Kayleigh Haydn.
Hi beautiful people! My fiance is coming into town (in about an hour, eeeep!!!) He lives about four hours away and we haven't been together much since my car wreck 3 weeks ago, so I'm taking the time to be with him. I will be back full force Sunday night (Central USA timezone). Thank you so much for your understanding!
Emma Marie Brown was born into a very loving family. Her father, Matthew Alexander Brown, was a dentist and her mother, Amelia Rose Brown, was a high school music and drama teacher. She has two older sisters: Olivia Inez Brown (16 years older) and Bethany Rylin Brown (15 years older) and twin older brothers, Ethan Matthew Brown and Nathan Alexander Brown (both 11 years older). Her parents had happy accidents getting pregnant with her sisters while still going to school. Her brothers were somewhat planned. After several years of not getting pregnant among other struggles, her parents had decided they were done having any more children and accepted the happy and loving family they had created at that time. Then along came Emma. She was born and raised in small town, America as the happy surprise miracle baby her family had least expected to come along but who had brought nothing but joy to their lives.
Her father's parents, Grandmother Brown and Grandfather Brown, were kind individuals who passed on before Emma had a chance to get to know them. They had adopted Matthew later in life and were already into their later years when Emma was born, though they loved her dearly until they passed. Her mother's parents, Gram and Pops, however, had been small town high school sweethearts. They had gotten married at 18 and pregnant not long after. Becoming grandparents fairly young, they loved all their grandchildren but they were still full-time working individuals still raising some of their own. They were close to retirement age when Emma was born and as such were extremely involved in Emma's life, doting full time on all their grandparents, but Emma had that from day one. They were like her second set of parents. She spent her summers on her their ranch riding horses and mucking stalls. They lived close enough that she would go there most afternoons to ride and spend time with her Gram and Pops and any other family there at the time.
Emma spent her childhood helping at her grandparents' ranch, helping backstage at her mother's school performances, and entertaining her siblings as their precious baby sister. She would ride horses on Monday with Pops, cheer on the twins at baseball on Tuesday, help the Gram in the garden on Wednesday, work the props department for mom during rehearsal on Thursday, record her sister's cheer performance on Friday, go hiking with dad on Saturday, and have three-hour long facetime sessions with her sister away at college on Sundays. Her life was full. It was busy but it was blessed. She was too young to remember the passing of her first grandparents, and therefore the hardest thing in young Emma's life wouldn't come until her eighteenth year...
Emma starting competing at the young age of 3 - participating in lead line with her Pops or siblings. From there, she continued local competitions in Pee Wee and Junior divisions. Emma was a natural and she had so much fun doing it. She remained local until the age of 12 when she joined a riding team. She was competing, earning money and buckles and loving every minute of the sport and the drive. She made friendships that still exist today and she learned valuable lessons that she wouldn't have learned anywhere else. Therefore, when she turned fourteen and got to high school, Emma was absolutely stoked and what was ahead for her. She joined her high school rodeo and riding club. This is where she met Hunter Blaze Woodrow, her high school rodeo team's resident bad boy. Freshman year meant studying hard and riding harder. She and Hunter, a sophomore at the time, hit it off immediately. Emma had gone into freshman year swearing off boys. All the boys in her grade with immature little bobbleheads and she hated them all. But Hunter became her best friend. They talked and flirted nonstop from the first time Emma tightened his saddle and her gave her a leg up and by the end of the school year, everyone was entirely annoyed with how cute they were. Emma and Hunter had gone to her winter formal friends. Though Emma had sworn off dating for the time being, Hunter couldn't keep his mind off of her. He was smitten, and by the time Hunter's spring banquet hit, they were officially dating. The following school year, their bond deepened. They went to the winter formal as a couple, and by Hunter's junior prom, they were in a serious relationship. The following year was Hunter's senior year and Emma knew it would be a stressful year for him. He was making plans for the future - plans that included Emma. He kept her in mind for every decision he had to make, and she did the same. She stood by him. They had their ups and downs but stayed true to each other; Emma supported Hunter through his toughest year yet and family struggles he was facing. By the time his graduation came around, Hunter bought Emma a promise ring and she wore it proudly. She had found her other half. Hunter made her smile, laugh, and kept her on her toes. She could rely on him for the things that were necessary but he kept her guessing at what adventure they'd be facing next.
The next year, the sweethearts would face their toughest challenge yet. Hunter went away to college. He had been accepted on scholarship to a rodeo team at a school a few hours away. Every weekend, one of them would drive to the other, never spending a full weekend apart. It took a toll on both of them, but they were young and in love. By Christmas, he had her daddy's permission, and at Emma's final spring riding competition, Hunter appeared in the middle of the arena after the show, got down on one knee, and proposed to the love of his life, his cowgirl, his better half. She said yes, of course. Hunter's final week of freshman year came and he packed up his things, took his last exam, and raced home to his love. That's when tragedy struck. Driving on little to no sleep, in the wee hours of the morning, Hunter found himself in a car accident that landed him in ICU. Emma spent the last two weeks of her senior year studying for finals in the hospital next to her love. Two weeks after her graduation, Emma lost the love her life.
Emma may not have many memories of Grandmother and Grandfather Brown, but they did leave her a large sum of money, a portion of which she received upon her graduation from high school. Emma took the money and left home. After driving for hours, Emma found herself in Breckenwood, secured a job at the local tack & feed, and found a place to live. Each day she misses her Hunter, but she has a renewed sense of purpose, ready to take life on no matter what she faces. Hunter loved her sense of life and love for others, and she has made a promise to be true to that part of herself to keep his memory alive.
-Currently, Emma has taken the inheritance money she has received so far and booked it to the Hickstead. She's managed to find an apartment and snagged a job as a shelf stacker at the local farmer's market. -What will happen next? Let's plot and find out!
