Jet lag was a bitch. One would have thought that Charlie Braun had flown between the United Kingdom and the United States enough to have gotten used to it, but no, he hadn't. The truth of the matter, or at least Charlie was convinced of, was that anybody who claimed they never suffered from jetlag was a liar. Not all was a loss though for the young man, given that he had come home with a shit ton of bagels with the intention of freezing them and hoarding them like some little hob goblin for the days that he couldn't handle the British Bagels anymore - which, probably wouldn't be very long. That was the problem with growing up in NYC, it made you a pizza and bagel snob.
Still, he had set some aside for the upcoming party, that he should probably leave for in the next five minutes as he finished off his nesspresso and put the cup in the sink. Speaking of his sink, brown eyes stared at it for a little bit longer, realizing just how littered it was with expresso mugs and saucers, "I'll get to that later," he told himself. Grabbing his bag of bagels, Charlie headed out to the door to snag himself an Uber to Oakerdale - home of the St. Croix's. This was a family gathering that the young man had been invited to, probably partially out of pity since he was a transplant but mostly because of his best friend Kyler was part of the family. There was also someone else who likely would be at that party, but she simply annoyed him. There wasn't anything there, and as far as he could tell, that certain someone was hung up on her dumb ass best friend.
Arriving at the house, he got out of the uber and stared at it. Charlie had been here countless times, it was a nice house to gawk at. Yes, he too had a nice upbringing, but living in New York City had left his family with elegant brownstones and modern flats, with the vacation house being in Maine. It was weird to see a nice big house that was well, just a home. Rang the doorbell, only to have it opened by she-who-must-not-be-named in his mind, "Natalie," he greeted. But she didn't even say hi to him, instead the young woman called out to his friend instead: "Unicorn boy is here!” It made him bristle, how he loathed that nickname and that stupid grumpy unicorn that seemed to be his spirit animal. Charlie rolled his eyes, "How original of you," he commented briskly, "At least I don't need a box to stand on to see over counters."
With that, he left her, knowing if he stood around Natalie St. Croix, he'd get too riled up. Besides, if Teddy Beauchamp was around, he rather not endure the two of them together. Charlie knew why the two of them annoyed him, very much so, but he was allowed to be in denial of such things he decided. He was too busy at the Law Firm, too busy studying, the young man didn't have time to humor courtship of a girl who was otherwise distracted by someone who would likely never see her as more than just his bestfriend. Entering the kitchen now, he was greeted by the real reason that he had come to the house. Immediately, his high strung and stiff frame relaxed, "Ky! Thanks for having me," Charlie greeted, embracing for impact and returning the hug, "Yeah, I can help. Put me to work. I brought bagels by the way...to compliment the burgers," he joked now, "Summer going well? I'm surprised Professor Hot-er, Professor Kensington didn't drag you off on some Summer Dig adventure after you two figured out the case of the stolen necklace or whatever."

Charlie Braun needed fuel, and where to get that fuel was Starbucks – the lone one in downtown Hickstead. It was kinda nice to know that the corporate conglomerate only had one shop in all of town, it wasn’t like New York City where there appeared to be one on every corner just like Dunkin Dounuts. Maybe the sleepy town had it in writing that they would only have one, so it couldn’t starve away from the local mom and pop coffee and tea shops. Normally, Charlie liked to go to the these shops, but today, he needed his liquid fuel to be strong and bitter like his soul, so that meant Starbucks.
It didn’t help that it felt like the summer had been flying by, but he supposed working at a law firm and constantly studying meant that there was little time to act like a kid on summer vacation anymore. Charlie didn’t mind though, he tended to thrive on being busy and having nothing to do never seemed to sit well with him. The young man had always been like that, even as a kid. It was probably unchecked ADD or something along the lines of that, but he never had any issues studying so his parents and the doctors always let it go.
Pushing the door open now, Charlie welcomed the cool air conditioner against his face. He didn’t know what was going on in the world, but even the seaside town of Hickstead had felt unbearably hot as of late. So even if he was unoringinal in his coffee choice, he pit stop was a welcome break. And it didn’t seem too crowded yet, so maybe it wouldn’t take him too long to get his Blonde Red Eye and some sort of sandwich. Granted, its not as if he really had anywhere to be. It was lunch break after all. After putting in his order, he stood off to the side and it was there that he found a familiar face: Landon Drew. They shared a few classes together while Charlie had been finishing up Pre-Law, and the internship classes always crossed over between Pre-Law and Law, “Landon,” Charlie said curtly now, “How’s the summer internship going at the Police Station?”

the appearance
face claim• wolfgang novogratz
identifying features• Standing at 6 foot 3 inches, Charlie is not one to be missed in the town of Hickstead. With a mop of dark brown hair that always looks messy or hapzardly combed to the side, brown eyes, and some deep dimples that could kill, Charlie can be considered classically good looking. He's a bit on the tanner side (a great debate if its spray or natural), and a good physique thanks to time spent at the gym.
the personality
likes • Late Night Study Dates, Bagels & Piles of Cream Cheese, Mixing Redbull and Espresso, Banned Books, Netflix Binge Watching, Being Taken Seriously, Libraries dislikes • Charlie the Unicorn (since people quote it to him all the time due to his name, its become the bane of his existence), Memes, Getting Kicked out of the Library, Anybody messing with his Netflix Metrics, Bad Grades, Somebody outwitting him strengths • Solid Memory, Quick Thinking, Book Smarts weaknesses • Caffeine Addiction; Can Be Described as a Damp Paper Towel, Panics over Tests dreams • Becoming a Full Fledge Lawyer fears • Failing to Pass the Bar Exam overall personality • At first impressions, Charlie can often be described as a grumpy, high strung individual who has an undisputed obsession with bagels and cream cheese. He's quick to annoy, especially if someone is playing name games or quoting 'Charlie the Unicorn' to him. One might even think that he could kill a party merely by showing up. Charlie is vigorously dedicated both to his paralegal duties as well as school studies, often placing them as his number one priority. His prowess with the legal system and his studies make him a keen observer and fast to pick up on tiny details, and thankfully, it's a skill that carries into his everyday life, for while people may accuse him of being a wet paper bag, they cannot accuse him of being oblivious. He also has a bad habit of panicking before major tests, which can mess with his head. Given his hawkish tendencies, very few people tend to get to know Charlie beyond class or perhaps a one night stand, but those who do, will find someone who has a strict moral code, and shockingly, a compassionate person. Those who are in Charlie's social circle will find him unwaveringly loyal, and will always find themselves put first above else, even if it could get him in trouble. And while Charlie still doesn't fully know what kind of lawyer he wants to be, he knows he wants to do a whole lot of good.
the history
father • Edward Chandler Braun, 53, Lawyer mother • Margot Vivian Braun, 49, High End Retaliator siblings • One Older Sister, One Younger Sister, Two Younger Brothers important people • KYLER EDMUND ST. CROIX - Friend hometown • New York City, New York, USA overall history • Charlie was born as a nepo-baby to two of New York City's finest and prolific workaholics - Edward and Margot Braun. He, along with his older sister, were brought up in a more stricter household, with big expectations, that slowly died off with each new sibling that joined the mix. By the final Braun was born, Edward and Margot became rather relaxed with their children raising, leaving Charlie and his older sister a little jealous of their younger siblings. Still, it was hard to complain, even with the sometimes absentee parents (physically or emotionally, depended on the day). Every Braun child reaped the benefits of their parents connections and riches, but this only became obvious to them the older they got.
The Brauns spared no expense in sending Charlie to the finest of the Upper East Side's schools the second he could walk and talk. He was also brought up to be civil and respectful, as well as get good grades. The pressure was always there in the air, but never spoken out loud. Charlie often found himself striving to earn his father's respect, and trying to escape out from under his mother's protectiveness. Unlike some of his other siblings, or even classmates, Charlie wasn't afraid to get dirty in high school or work hard, trying to separate himself from the Braun name so that people could see him as 'just Charlie Braun' verses Charles Braun the nepobaby.
Perhaps the combination of his parents and his need to escape was often when truly kept him in line while growing up in the Upper East Side, unlike some of his other classmates and siblings, who felt nothing but power and thinking that they were untouchable. Charlie got his chance at 'escape' upon getting into NYU to study pre-law, throwing himself into his studies and trying to live outside of his family's New York Brown Stone. However, six months in, it soon dawned on Charlie that he never truly escaped, since he was still in the City, with its connections and his last name. Annoyed by this, Charlie low key started looking at other options for college, then switching to the idea of still graduating from NYU but selecting somewhere else for going on to law school.
Upon graduation at twenty two, Charlie was accepted into Law School in England, and landed a paralegal job at a small, but prestigious, law firm in Hickstead, England. This choice baffled his parents, leaving behind New York City and the top of the line Law Schools, for a needless adventure across the pond. But Charlie didn't see it that way, he saw it as his chance to be his own person and figure out his life without his parents' shadows hanging over him. So he left, and moved to England. He adapted well to the living change (minus the driving, of course) and has entered his third and final year of school, with the bar looming ahead of him.
