Summertime had come and gone within the blink of an eye. Evanna 'Eva' Garnet wasn't sure how it had happened. Maybe between work at the Sale Yard and finding new friendships in Nash Breckah and Tanner Scott had done the trick, but all of the sudden, it was September and Eva had no where to be. The teenager had finally finished off Secondary and had graduated accordingly, and while Nash had made the last few months of it bearable - the whispers behind her back of why a girl of her age was still in Secondary had really started to get to her. None of it had been ideal for Eva, and she had needed a break - so much, that she put off going to Uni until the next semester.
The look of disappointment on Jessie and Brandon's faces had been...well, less than ideal. She could understand where they were coming from as adults, but she was an adult now too, couldn't she make her own decisions? As the thought crossed her mind though, Eva felt immediately guilty. A huffy sigh escaped the teenager now, as if to expel her own thoughts. Nobody was at fault - not her, not Jessie, and not Brandon. Besides, at least she wasn't bumming it around all day - she had the Sale Yard to keep her busy - those homeless horses didn't clean and feed themselves after all. But she was off schedule today, and with Tanner busy, and Nash in school, Eva had been left to her own devices.
So she hit High Street downtown with her new longboard tucked under her arms as she walked down the long stretch of shops. Eva knew pretty well that she could not skate in this area, it would get her in trouble in a matter of seconds thanks to the older folks, but cutting through High Street would eventually get her to the skate park. Plus, staring at beautiful things in the shop windows was always fun. The teenager paused outside one of the fashion shops, staring at the grunge fashion display they had. Hazel eyes looked over everything until she caught something, no someone, in the window's reflection walking by and Eva found herself quick to doubletake.
"What the-" she muttered, sharply turning to see a girl just saunter on by. While she barely caught her RBF, those curves, that fashion sense, and the pink streaks in the stupidly perfected beach wave curl, said it all. Eva knew exactly who it was. A surge of wild emotions hit her all at once, her fists clenched, as she called out, "Ripple?" Maybe she was wrong, maybe the girl who turned around wouldn't be who she thought it was and it was merely a haunting from the past, but Eva was certain, and boy, she wasn't about to burry any hatchets unless it was into Ripley Mistenya's back.

Guess she wasn't the only one who got defensive about certain questions. Both Eva and Nash had met each other's perspective brick walls, and both were too willing to let each other in. That was fine though, it was only the first 'date', and who knew if they would hang out after this. Although in the short time of their acquaintanceship, the quippy fifteen year old had managed to win her over, and Eva Garnet decided that he may not be so bad of a friend to have in her life - that is, if he thought the same of her as well. Only time would tell, since he was never getting into her pants or touching her lips.
At least he was willing to be whisked off onto a wild adventure, which merely would be taking them upstairs and onto the roof, they just had to get there first, "Of course, here, where else would we go with our slushies?" Eva asked with a wry grin as she tugged him along before stopping dead in her tracks, pausing near a doorway as she football mom'd him in the chest with her arm and hand, making sure Nash remained right next to her and not ahead of her. Things could get tricky now, her James Bond comment said it all. Hazel eyes glanced back at Nash now, and it took everything in her power to not laugh with his next line: "I can be anyone you want me to be.” Yup. He was defilingly a theater kid. The follow up was better though: ”Our slushies will end up shaken, not stirred.”
She cracked a devilish grin, "The only way for them to be have, 007," she replied, and once again, returned her attention to their route. Peering around and looking both ways, Eva decided the coast was clear, "Come on," she whispered excitedly now, pulling him once more as they darted across the hallway and she tugged open the employees only stair well to lead them up. Thank god the teenagers that worked here where utterly lazy, since really, that door should never be open. She hiked up to the top and once more, popped the door open now and once they were out, she grabbed a small rock to place inbetween the door and its frame to ensure that they didn't get locked up here.
They were officially up on the roof now, overlooking over high street and downtown Hickstead, with the sun slowly starting to set in the west. Eva couldn't help but to smile now, staring out at what felt like her kingdom as she took a big sip of her slushie now - not even brain freeze and the chill of the February air could dampen her mood, "See what I mean Agent 007, best seats in the house." She glanced over at him curiously now, to see what Nash thought of it all before adding, "Don't be giving away my secret hangouts to anyone."

At that big, wide smile that Lilith Thompson gave her, the teenager merely twisted her mouth a little and did her best to not narrow her eyes - it was hard not to though, because Eva was certain that she sensed a challenge. Right when she was ready to say something snarky about 'shit collector', Brandon chimed in about how he had managed to correct all of the Yard stable hands to not call Lilith as such, Eva deflated a little. Shit. Well, she couldn't exactly go in for the kill now, "Whatever." The teenager grumbled now, shoving her hands into the pocket of her baggy hoodie and kicking at the ground with her boot, scuffing the soles no doubt. It just gives them character, she thought to herself, like naming a lady 'shit collector'.
The offer for a partially private tour did perk her up though. She listened keenly to what the older woman was saying - like she wanted a tour of the bug department though. Before she could say anything, Brandon chimed in: "I'd be more interested in seeing the bugs, but I'm also up for anything if Eva gets the icks from seeing too many bugs." She was annoyed that he was willing to do whatever his new lady friend appeared to be offering, but then countered it by saying that Eva couldn't handle the bugs. Not caring that there was a witness, the teenager gave a sisterly sucker punch to Brandon's bicep and she hadn't been prepared for the solid muscle since...well, it actually hurt, "I can handle the bugs," she defended herself now, trying hard to not cringe as she pulled her fist away.
However, hazel eyes then looked to Lilith, "But then I want to see the Pandas." It was a big ask, and Eva knew it. A challenge to set the older woman up for possible failure on her offer. It was almost impossible to see the pandas as a normal person, you'd have to elbow a baby in the face in order to get a good look at them. Either way, Eva was going to win. Either she was going to get to see the pandas up close and personal, or she'd be able to wipe that stupid smile off of Lilith Thompson's face, "Surely, you can make that happen."

Watching the older man shake his head, Eva couldn't help but to feel a little guilty for her attitude just moments earlier. He hadn't deserved that. At least she recognized it enough to say sorry before staring moodily at her coffee now. Maybe she should have kept her coffee black like her apparent soul: "I really just meant, it feels nice to know that you enjoy living here." Hazel eyes glanced up now, staring at him, before offering a slight smile, "I do. I'm lucky that you and Jessie took a chance on me. I honestly can't say that for very many adults given my...record and family history." But that was growing up after all, learning from your mistakes, and Eva had some big ones.
She couldn't argue that Auggie Flores didn't know how to make a mean batch of coffee - she wasn't even certain what witchcraft, soccerercraft, he used. Maybe it was the beans. Maybe it was the brewing. But somehow, that nobody, not even starbucks, could hold a candle to that man's coffee, "It's probably some secret of his trade," Eva commented now, cocking her head, "What happened to the coffee machine at the Fire Department?" On rare occasions, the teenager had swung by the station to deliver lunch or something from Jessie to Brandon, and from what she had seen, it had looked fine. But there was always a chance that she was mistaken - and the Fire Station held many of distractions. Her brother's inquisitive question about Auggie's daughter through her for a loop, even though it was probably his job as her older brother to ask these sort of questions, "Huh? Oh. She and I have cracked heads a few time...and she's stubborn and loudly opinionated, and I'm just...aloof...and stubborn."
It felt like a decent enough explanation. She certainly wasn't crying over in a corner of the Sale Yard wondering why Izzy Flores wasn't her bff or anything. Maybe it was from juvenile detention, maybe it was leftover animosity over Ripley Mistenya, who had been the reason why she ended up in juvie, but lately, Eva had been finding herself a guy's girl more than a girl's girl. Sounds like she wasn't the only one who needed a special sort of girl though, although Brandon's sounded like he was strictly only for the romance department. Come to think of it, Eva wasn't even sure who her older brother hung out with, "I'm sure not all girls at the clubs are alcoholics," she chortled now, taking a swig of her coffee, "But I get it. Brandon Garnet is a soul who can't be tied down, destined to walk this earth alone...along with his trusty younger sister." And then came the million dollar question - who did she find attractive, "One? Oh no, there are many. Like...Jamie, Wren, Mason, Ronan, Lucas, and maybe...maybe Cayden." And all but one punched above her age, but who says she couldn't admire?
It wasn't surprising to hear that Jessie wouldn't share her secrets with either of them, she didn't become a top rated Michelin chef by giving away her secrets. Still, it was a little disappointing to hear. But Brandon thankfully had also been a decent cook himself, so Eva knew she couldn't go wrong with whoever was cooking for her that day. "Hey, that guy who owns Justin's Peanut Butter created it in his college dorm room supposedly," she said now, "That could have been you and a french toast waffle house." With the batter done, she listened intently to her brother as he placed the orange and zester by her, "Ughs. Zesting," she muttered, but for flavor, she was willing to do the most annoying task in baking and cooking history, and with that, she went to work, "I don't think I've ever had french toast with zest before."

Eva had been so wrapped up in deciphering the different skate boards that she didn't realize she no longer was annoyed until a voice popped up besides her. She was lucky that she didn't jump out of her skin and embarrass herself, and as she glanced over now, Eva was deeply thankful that she did not embarrass herself, "A lot, huh? Guess I am lucky to have you here." Ooo, that came out a little too flirty, and it already made her cringe, "Although I am sure I could have figured it out without you." Yup, because that totally sounded cool. Whatever, nonchalant will be her attitude of choice for the next 10 to 20 minutes.
He must have figured out that flub though, given he was already asking her if he could help her, "Guilty as charged," Eva replied back with a smile, "I've also never skated before, for the record." Hazel eyes looked back over to the decks and their colorful designs, "I want to try though. Figure it might keep me out of trouble." Maybe it would do the opposite, the teenager wasn't so sure. She'd seen both cute guys and cute girls hanging around at the skate park, so maybe it would just lead to more trouble. But Eva liked to think she had matured a lot in the past three years, and she was far more weary and protective of herself, "So what do you recommend me, Mystery Man? Oh, and you can call me Eva."

Kennedy's small outburst made the teenager arch an eyebrow, "Uh...I rather not make a scene." Eva had been caught off guard by the brunette saying those words, then again, looking her over, perhaps she should have suspected that sort of attitude by a girl dressed like that. It made her wonder what she did for a living if she wasn't in school. 'Well, she probably has some much money, she can probably do whatever the fuck she wants,' the teenager thought to herself. Eva felt like she knew girls like this - they had existed at juvie, and they had existed back when she was hanging out on the street but didn't last long unless they had daddy issues or some stupid point to prove, "Define 'fun things' though."
Eva could not help but to grown at the scoffing from Kennedy, her jaw tightening. She became even more aggravated at Kennedy's choice words 'glad I fooled you'. Hazel eyes narrowed now, fighting the temptation to interrogate Miss 'I'm Better Than Everyone Else'. She might have been able to cool it off, if it wasn't for that sweet knowing smile she delivered at the end. It took everything in her power to not groan and scoff herself. Instead, she just coolly smiled, "Oh yeah? Do the boys say that about you?" Hopefully that clapback sent a message that she wasn't one to be picked on either. Maybe their food would come fast enough after they ordered so Eva could shove a piece of pizza in her mouth to shut herself up.
Right when Kennedy was beginning to sound bored with her, her interest seemed to pique when she mentioned having a brother. God. Why was everyone suddenly interested in Brandon? She didn't remember girls beginning interested in him prior to being adopted by Jessie - maybe some of the girls in her program had fawned over him at the Yard, but they were fourteen to sixteen - hardly a threat. This felt different, it rivaled the animosity she felt at the zoo just days earlier with that bug lady Lily or whatever, "He's too old for you," Eva replied flatly - okay, maybe he wasn't, but girl's age was hard to suss out between her attitude and the way she dressed.
As for Jessie cooking for them, it felt a little different to what Kennedy was suggesting what she had, "Your mom doesn't cook for you?" Perhaps it was a loaded question, but she set herself up for that. Her thoughts rolled over what she liked that Jessie made though, "I don't know. Homemade pesto and pastas. Stuffed chicken breasts. Everything's delicious. And I eat what is placed in front of me." Anything and everything was better than juvie detention food after all, but she wasn't about to say anything like that. Her brain thought over what Kennedy said about wanting her own place, "Ah...protective so you don't get to have fun?"
She might have gone on with her prodding questions if it wasn't for the waiter showing up, "Oh hi. Yes, may I have water and a veggie pizza? Thank you."

Elna doesn't have much contact with humans other than being chased, roped, and drug into trailers. Being chased around small pens with crack of whips sending her in whatever direction that they want her to go. Her curiousness of humans turned into fear and anger and you will see her striking out and trying to keep distance between them.
Today was one of those hot summer days that Eva Garnet wasn't sure on what to do with herself. She had survived graduating out of Secondary (not that she had doubted herself) and her one close friend, Nash Breckah, was unavailable to hang out and her other sorta friend, sorta 'i want to date you but i don't know how to do real feelings' situation, Tanner, was working. And apparently, it was a crime to hangout too much at the Sale Yard when she wasn't working, since, well, the horses were for sale and not for her general amusement even though Eva was only interested in one ill-tempered horse: Ghost. Unfortunately though, she had a setback with him that, thankfully, one of the fellow yard hands was able to pull her out of, only to then rat her out to Auggie and Brandon, effectively ending her unsupervised time with the gypsy vanner.
All of this lead back to the point that Eva didn't know what to do with herself today, other than to leave Hickstead for Willow Bridge City in search of entertainment. This wasn't always the smartest thing to do when one was Eva Garnet - looking for something to do tended to somehow end in poor choices. But she was willing to bet that since getting out of juvie, and being adopted by the Garnets, she had been rather good at staying out of trouble. Well, serious trouble at least. It suddenly occured to her that on this hot july summer day, the pool should have been her first idea, but it was too late for that now. What was somethng she always wanted to do but never could?
And then, it hit her. Well, the store front appeared: city brick skate shop & building co. Skate boarding sounded cool, it gave her a place to hang out also while she bit the concrete every five minutes. So she pushed the door open and headed on it. Hazel eyes took in the surroundings, before her eyes wandered to the skate decks - full of color and pop punk aesthetics, like the Pac Sun girl she wanted to be if she had been from America. Her feet took her to them now, only to notice that they they came in various lengths and elongated shapes, "Whats the difference," she muttered outloud, placing her hands on her hips as she stared - not realizing that she was hardly alone in the shop.

Hazel eyes kept on darting back and forth between her brother and mystery woman, no, Lilith, tryin got make out what was going on. There was something there, Eva could feel it in her very being, but she wasn't sure on what it was. They were being friendly, but not flirting. Not yet at least. For all of the teenagers joking talk about finding Brandon a girlfriend, suddenly being confronted with the possibility of it being a legit thing did not sit well with her. Yes, Brandon deserved to be happy, but on her terms. Okay, no not her terms, but wasn't she allowed to hold onto him as the older brother for just a little while longer before being whisked way by a mad bug scientist?
Wait a second, visiting the yard to collect samples? Horse poop?! She wanted to gag, but the teenager knew she had to reign it in. Eva could already tell that she might have been a little too snide in her introductions, typically unlike her, so even if Lilith didn't know her, Brandon for certain knew something was up. Speakming of her older brother, she didn't care for the school comment - not in front of a stranger at least. She shot him a look, "I am an excellent school attending, law abiding citizen," before glancing back at the woman now, "But I have heard of you. You're 'bug lady'." Some of the other hands had met her before, and clearly, had not been creative with their choice nickname for her.
It suddenly occurred to her that Lilith was holding out her hand, for a handshake. Hazel eyes just stared at the hand for a moment, was she suppose to shake it like some adult? Well, guess she was technically an adult at eighteen. She could feel both adults boring their gaze into her now, and for now, just for now, Eva relented in her sass. The teenager reached out and shook her hands, "Pleasure to meet you too." Not. Well, now she had to interrogate the woman, "You should join us for the rest of the evening. It will be like...Galentines Day...with Brandon being the sole exception."
“I’m not saying that everything is survivable. Just that everything except the last thing is.” - John Green
It was a little weird to hear Brandon profess that maybe she had wanted to get rid of him. Eva actually arched an eyebrow, unable to hide the mildly insulted look on her face, "Why would I want to get rid of you?" Her words came out a little more defense and accusatory than she meant to. Eva took a deep breath now, she had to remain calm. It was too early for this sort of drama on her hand, and Brandon deserved better than that from her: he was the reason why she was living here now, "Sorry," Eva grunted now, uncertain if she wanted to discuss feelings on a deep level at 6 am. Her coffee was probably about to become really interesting.
At least she knew her adoptive brother cared about her enough to consider her old enough to drink the coffee at the Yard, "Thanks. I don't know what Auggie does with the drip machine, but when he makes it, it's on point." Probably some sort of wise old man skills, not that her boss was truly old, but Eva was certain that he was older than Brandon by at least ten years. Speaking of Auggie, his daughter was brought up, "Izzy? Yeah, she's a year older than me. I don't see her often at the Yard now since she has a new job and...her own horse. I'm not sure if we entirely got along anyways." There wasn't even any bad blood between them, it was more so that both girls were just aloof? And Eva had grown to find that she needed a bold personality to bring out the best of her on a friendship level.
Laughter escaped her over the coffee comment, "I'm just full of surprises." Hazel eyes watched the older man get to work in the kitchen, knowing his way around it just as well as their mother did. At his question on the matter of clubbing, Eva just grinned, "Maybe. How else am I suppose to get you a girlfriend?" Although the clubs weren't exactly her scene either, not unless she had someone. It was funny, the two and a half years in Juvie really had changed her perspective on what would be fun. Prior to that, she had always been trying to sneak in when she could. At Brandon's comment about who he worked with, a sigh could not help but to escape Eva as she intentially said dreamily, "A bunch of hot, annoying people." That was probably not what Brandon thought, but she could not help herself.
She arched her eyebrows when Brandon professed that this french toast recipe was actually his, "Color me surprised, I was not expecting that. Here I thought Jessie was the professional cooker in this household with the skinny on everything." When the ingredients appeared before her, Eva put down her coffee and went to work now with adding them and stirring them into the batter, "You know, if this is how you picked up friends and chicks in college, I expect this french toast to knock my socks off after the first bite." Finishing her stirring, she then followed up with, "What's next?"
“I’m not saying that everything is survivable. Just that everything except the last thing is.” - John Green
It did not go unnoticed by Eva that the other young woman lacked a response to her 'thanks', she didn't offer a simple 'you're welcome'. In fact, she didn't even acknowledge it verbally, just gave her a nod. Eva arched an eyebrow, fighting just about every ounce in her body to come up with some sort of witty comeback or dig on that. She had to remind herself that that she had been the invader of this girl's dinner and not the other way around. Eva had more important things to deal with, such as how people kept on pointing out that she was too old to be in secondary. Now that was getting annoying.
"I had transfer issues," she replied carefully, hazel eyes studying Kennedy from across the table. Hopefully she'd leave it at that, "So I have to finish my last year of secondary again." Something told her that this girl wasn't like Nash Breckah and she could just make the uncomfortable questions go away by holding a hand and saying something sweet or flirty to distract her. Given how indifferent Kennedy appeared to be about her, Eva wouldn't want to flirt with her anyways - it wouldn't be fun. Yet, she still caught her by surprised when Kennedy announced that there was always time to fool around, "Really? You don't seem like the type to do that." Not with her stuffy attitude and business attire, but maybe there was more to her than meets the eye.
But those thoughts took a step back the moment Kennedy announced that she didn't remember the last time that she had eaten pizza. Somehow, that didn't remotely surprise her, "I don't know. I like supreme so I get meat and veggies but that doesn't seem like your type." Mainly because the meats are processed, "You're probably best off with four cheeses or margarita and adding a side salad. I personally like the greek one the best." Man, this girl asked a lot of questions. Eva folded the menu and put it down, pushing it off to the side to signal she was done, "My brother takes me here sometimes," maybe if she had friends she'd eat out more, the yard pays her decently enough, "My mom's head Chef at one of the high end restaurants over at Willow Bridge so we don't eat out too often. Seems a little silly with her skills but every once in a while, she doesn't want to cook."
Kennedy appeared to be pretty independent though, which made Eva wonder if she herself was coming off as a child by mentioning Brandon and Jessie in such casual conversation. Then again, she had already admitted to finishing off her last year of Secondary, so maybe she had already dug herself into a hole, "Do you hang out with your parents much?"
“I’m not saying that everything is survivable. Just that everything except the last thing is.” - John Green
Boy, did he really seem to be enjoying himself. Eva watched as the boy just bared his smirk for all of the world to see as Nash inquired about being a rodeo now. She rolled her eyes, but she couldn't help but to smile that that stupid infectious smirk of his, "Yeah, you're a quippy person. Of course you're a rodeo." The teenager probably could have thrown a bucking bronco or wild bull reference in there as well, but figured that would get to Nash's head and he'd spontantious combustion from whatever imaginative thoughts he had dancing in his head right now. With his prompting about how she should join the spring play, Eva just laughed, "Drama skills aside, yhy should I joint when I could just watch you from the audience?"
It was a baiting question. She was quite certain that she actually knew what he was going to say to her as to why she'd be better up on stage, because if he was Romeo for this play, then she could be his Juliette. And if that were the case, Eva was certain that his little sophomore brain would go into 'but then we could kiss and I'd whisk you off your feet' mode. She heard it all before, and not just from boys. Good thing she was quick on her feet with the quips though, cause right when Nash Breckah was looking certain he had gotten her, she had one upped him all together: the girlfriend comment. He almost looked deflated as he admitted to not having one, and Eva, for a split second, felt a little guilty, "Chin up. You'll be someone's catch soon enough and they can brag about having one of the cutest and most famous boys in Hickstead Secondary."
That ought to boost his ego just a little bit. Nash seemed to think that he had to compliment her back, since he informed her that 'some of the guys said she was hot'. Eva stared at him, letting a beat pass, before laughing, loudly at that fact, "Some of the guys? But not you? We may have to work on your flirting game if we're going to score you a girlfriend. Tell those guys of yours thanks for thinking I'm hot." Speaking of hot, he was already rolling with her former 'school' response of previously attending an all girls school for 'bad girls'. At least he seemed to buy it, verses realizing that what she was actually implying was juvie. For all the toughness that she had, Eva preferred to keep that part of her life rather quiet, "You could try, but I think you're too sweet. Probably get eaten alive." Heck, even some of the girls she had met there, the teenager wouldn't want to deal with them again even with her tough girl front.
Hazel eyes could see the slushies making their way to them, and just in time because of those next words that came out of Nash's mouth: "Trouble as in bad trouble?” Eva's jaw tighten just a little bit, trying to figure out how to get out of this when those slushies dropped on the counter and Nash grabbed them, inviting her for a brain freeze. Deciding to mask her hesitation with excitement, Eva's face lit up, "I thought you'd never ask. Come on, I know the best seats in the house." And with that, she grabbed her slushie from him and did the most distracting thing she could think of, she grabbed his hand and tugged him along towards the back of the arcade now where the emergency exit was, and more importantly, employee only stairs, "We gotta sneak through here to get to the roof. Can you be all James Bond light?" Eva asked in a hushed whisper, keeping a look out as her body tensed up, ready to make the dash.
