Mina had been so wrapped up in her thoughts and anxieties with the universe that she hardly paid attention to the fact that she had an audience member. Granted, the young woman had never been the best at hiding her emotions, so perhaps this shouldn't be surprising. The voice, soft and gentle, caught her off guard though and it caused her to snap her head back fast and turn so quickly that she nearly knocked herself off balance. Thankfully, Mina managed to skitter her feet and ground herself once more to the floor. Chocolate brown eyes fell on the woman now as she continued to speak, "White would work for anything, as it can be used in the absence of other colored candles as white colors contain the energy of the colors that originate from them."
She stared at her curiously before a slight laugh escaped her, a combination of nerves and embarrassment wafting over her now, "I haven't even thought of blue or purple." But damn, maybe she really did need some blue candles given that they were being suggested. That must be some nervous energy that she was wafting off of herself right now. 'Let's not kid ourselves here Mina,' she thought to herself now, 'You are a bundle of nervous energy.' Quickly, she put the candles back now as fast as possible, doing her best to not knock into the stand and have another avocado display incident on her hand. There were so many shades of blue right now, she suddenly felt overwhelmed.
Rather than have another stupid panic attack over some candles though, Mina looked back to the woman now and offered her best attempt at a non awkward smile, "Sorry, I'm not usually like this," liar, liar pants on fire, "Er, I'm Mina. I have to say, you're quite knowledgeable and I don't think I've seen you around Blackthorne before." She cocked her head now, "Do you....do you work here?" Truthfully, there was something awfully familiar about her, but the young woman couldn't place it. Maybe she had seen her walk past the window display at Alcott's before while Mina had been day dreaming. After all, Hickstead is a rather small town.
Yeah, yeah. I'm Fine. I'm just having an allergic reaction to the universe

Mina watched as her friend made his way over to her now, that soft shy smile on his lips - the classic Casper Talbot look. She beamed him a smile back, that sort of half cheeky half awkward smile that she made her own, "You're looking good. If it wasn't so early, I would have thought I might have interrupted a date," she said jokingly now. Brown eyes watched as he shrugged off his leather jacket to claim his spot now before asking, "Hello, thank you for the invite. Have...you ordered yet?" The young woman shook her head at Casper's question now, "No, I was waiting to see if you'd take up my offer." Besides, she would have thought it quite rude to get herself a drink and make him stand in line by himself.
Getting up now, Mina side stepped around the table and managed to give him a slight hug in greeting before stepping back, "I'm glad you could come though," she said now, "I can't believe I actually caught you on a day off. Did the Talbots force you to take a vacation day?" While it sounded like a joke, it was a actually a serious question. Mina knew the man well enough that he actually preferred working at the orchard rather than staying at home. The young woman didn't entirely understand why, other than maybe the Orchard was rather quiet, which shocked her given that Mina herself thought all of the Malloy's were actually chatty.
Grabbing her purse, she headed towards the line now with Casper now to wait in line now. The morning rush thankfully was slowly flittering out, but it likely would still be a bit of waiting, "So how is everything?" Mina asked now, "Work. The Fam. Idk, anything else." Might as well let Casper talk as much as he wanted before she dumped her own trivial thoughts on him, besides, as a friend, she actually was curious to hear what he's been up to since the last time she saw him.

Mina was just having one of those days, her thoughts were all jumbled since a very interesting night with Ivan - the first since he was back in town and honestly, the young woman felt fairly confident that it wouldn't be the last. But it left her at some sort of weird cross roads that she didn't exactly know on what to do with, and she didn't know who to talk to about it either. Gideon heard it all from her, and Casper, and Faerie, yet nobody gave her proper answers. It just felt like more questions to her than answers. Or maybe it was because they knew best that Mina Cohen just had to talk herself half to death before the lighting struck her little brain and the answer came to her on its own accord.
But that hadn't happened yet, and it was utterly frustrating. She blamed the fucking universe. She had it all until a week ago and it dropped an atomic bomb in her life. Mina had her potential boyfriend, Danny. She had the steady job. She had the big, fluffy, lovable cat and several friends. It was all there - like a happy Bob Ross picture, complete with happy little trees. And then it wasn't. The picture was damaged by a cascading wave, no, monsoon, yes, a monsoon of emotions. A huffy sigh escaped Mina, she couldn't bring this negative energy home with her and it occurred to her that her candle stock was running painfully low. Which settled her lunch break for her - Gideon could man without her help.
As soon as the clock struck noon, Mina darted for the door as best as she could without decking it on the floor and headed off. The young woman knew where she was going: Black Thorn. Home of the best candles, incents, and soaps that a girl could ask for. They even had a crystal shop. People in Hickstead were always a little weird about Black Thorn, something about them being 'witches', which Mina thought was stupid since this wasn't the 1800's. They could worship magic if they wanted to - if that was their thing, she wouldn't judge. If being 'a witch of the wilds' could have been a possible job in her life, Mina would have taken it in a heartbeat. But alas, that had not been in the cards.
Mina marched right on in there with a mission, an desperate flurry of a girl as she headed to her favorite part of the store: candles. But as dark amber eyes stared at the assortment, she suddenly felt a loss. Picking up a pink candle in her hand and then a white one, she stared at them, "Do I need pink for romance?" she mused out loud, even though she had two potential men in her life, "Or do I need white for clarity?" Fuck. She didn't know. Mina knew right then and there if there a way to sum up her feelings right now, there's just be '' sitting over her head. A loud sigh escaped her, as her arms went slack to her sides, still holding the candles as she threw her head up to stare at the ceiling, "Why are you causing me this allergic reaction, universe?"
Yeah, yeah. I'm Fine. I'm just having an allergic reaction to the universe

Mina was all about being a hermit. There was something very comforting in not leaving the house on the weekend, and just build blanket and pillow forts to the sound of ambiance and candles and doing your own thing without the needs of socializing. But, the young woman also knew that social interaction was needed in her life to keep her sane, which is why she found herself sitting at Parker's Pastries and texting her friend Casper Talbot: 'Hey, I'm chillin' at Parker's if you're not working.' She kept the text light and noncommittal, she wasn't a bully. She wanted the farmhand to come out of his own accord verses thinking like he had to and the young woman was summoning him, which was hardly the case.
She had known the orchard farm hand for years, they worked together as friends because, quite frankly, they were both awkward as fuck, but she didn't mind. It made the two of them endearing to the world even if the rest of the world didn't get them. Plus, it had been a while. Mina had found herself very preoccupied recently with the arrival of Ivan Park - her childhood best friend and onesided childhood crush - or so she thought. Whatever was going on with feelings, the man had came back into her life in like an unexpected winter storm and she found herself getting rather caught up in her hypothetical situations and possibilities - meaning she had to reground herself.
There was always Gideon, he made her feel like a confident friend, but they were also stuck together at the jewelry shop and while he was the Ryan to her Seth, even she knew that he needed a break from her. Which is where Casper came into play. Speaking of the fellow, the chiming door bell alerted her to his presence - well that, and his insane height. Chocolate eyes looked up from her sketchbook and caught his eye, a beaming smile spread across her face as she waved at him enthusiastically, "Heyyyy! Glad you could make it. Nothing says friendship like tea and coffee and oh! Cake."
Yeah, yeah. I'm Fine. I'm just having an allergic reaction to the universe

When this happens, she can easily feel flummoxed or awkward - traits easily carrying over to her conversational skills with people and it will especially rear its head when she is talking to a crush. Her sense of fantasy and romanticism has often lead her to miss out on a dating life - being firm in the idea that a guy should do the work when sometimes, it really ought to be her. This has been problematic throughout her life and leaves her missing out on what she could have had just because of her ideals and underlining fear of rejection and has lead to years long crushes and unrequited love because the person of her infatuation just simply didn't know. Despite this, Mina does love to talk with those she is confident around. She is usually upbeat, enthusiastic, and optimistic, but, at times, can come up with with all of the worst possible outcomes and talk herself into a panic. She is always blabbing about hypothetical situations and possibilities, often to the irritation of the more practical, down-to-earth people in her life and has a nack for enjoying speculation for the sake of speculation. Mina often needs to talk through her feelings, particularly to her close friends. She doesn’t even really need anyone to actually give her any advice in many cases. She just needs to talk and figure things out externally. Whether or not she acts upon her realizations is an entirely different thing.
the history
father • Caleb Cohen, 63, Lawyer mother • Lily Cohen, 62, Artisan - Pottery siblings • ----- Cohen, 30 important people • IVAN LEE PARK - childhood best friend & crush hometown • Hickstead, England, UK overall history • Mina's parents first met when her mother did an exchange program for school in Tel Aviv, Israel. It was there where she met her future husband, Caleb Cohen. They couldn't be any more different - he was practical, pragmatic, cautious, and a thinker whereas Lily was a creative, an idealist, and could see the best in people. Despite their differences, they hit it off and what was suppose to be a whirlwind of a six month relationship became something more. After two years of courting and long distance - they tied the knot and since a wife always gets what she wants - they settled down in her hometown of Hickstead, England where several years later - Mina and her older sibling were born.
Mina was raised in a loving home, where quick wit and sarcasm was used to defuse situations and following your heart and beliefs were usually tailored made lessons on how to tackle life. Lily especially, encouraged creativity in her children while Caleb held them to being kind and genuine children. An unexpected impact on Mina's life had been the arrival of Seo-Jun and Rachel Sung Park along with their children - particularly their youngest - Ivan. The two of them became the best of friends, always spending time with each other and always being around each other lead Mina to develop a crush on the boy despite the fact that she was certain he had the boy version of cooties.
She had been with him on that fateful day his life changed forever - the two of them playing around and climbing trees on his grandparents property. As honorary best friend, she had gotten to come on the trip. That day had been utterly terrifying when she watched him fall from such a height and had been the one to go sprinting off to the ground ups for help. Mina experienced the ups and downs of worry along side his family, from the two broken legs to the sepsis and how ill it made him, and then the eventual amputation of his legs. But she also witnessed how strong he had been through all of it - which only made her feelings grow.
Life carried on for Mina. She became known as the awkward, creative arts girl in school with a nack for rambling or talking to much. But she didn't mind as long as she had her best friend Ivan around. She got into doodling and creating designs after taking a small work shop that the art teacher held at Hickstead Secondary school - unknowingly putting her on her future path of becoming a jewelry designer and artisan. Mina loved it - it pushed her mind and creativity as well as gave her a great challenge to work with -whether it was in a computer building program or with her hands.
With senior year approaching and the threat of college forcing them to go their separate ways, Mina vowed that she was going to do something about her crush on Ivan - having harbored it all these years even when accepting dates from other boys. But every opportunity that had presented itself to her fell to panic and doubt, leaving her graduating without ever telling him her feelings. Ivan went off to the United States and while Mina managed to get into the jewelry program at Istituto Lorenzo De Medici – The LdM School of Design in Florence, Italy to hone her skills and learn from the best in Europe.
The distance did a number on their friendship, starting off decent about staying in contact but time zones and everything else eventually got in the way. Mina learned to accept that Ivan would never be more than a childhood best friend and wonderful memories to cherish throughout her life. She got on with her life as well upon college graduation - taking up to backpacking to learn about various gems throughout the world and designs from various cultures before returning to Hickstead. Even after all the wonders she saw, there was nothing that spoke home to her like Hickstead, England, much to the thrill of her parents.
She set up shop at Alcott's Design, thrilled that the local shop would take her on as an artisan with her wild ideas and designs when not requested to do engagement rings and sets. Mina thought herself to have all what she needed in life to make her happy and yes, sometimes she even was able to hold onto some pretty steady relationships even with her quirky personality. Everything was going along smoothly until her sibling dropped a bomb on her - Ivan Park was back in Hickstead. Truthfully, Mina thought it was a joke, but now she has herself keeping a keen lookout whenever she's out and about.
