"Do you mind?" She heard the guy call out - but clearly the idiot didn't mind as he didn't even bother to look back and check let alone stop and make sure the guy and his kid were okay. Rox felt her heart give a little pinch as the child screamed and then cried, worried that she was hurt. Not a mother herself, she still felt that mother-like twinge to hear kids crying. She frowned after the guy but he was already gone, and it was too later to get him back to apologise. Turning back to the stranger, she saw he already had his child in hand and was working on settling her.
"I'm alright thanks. Doesn't seem like he's taken anything." She nodded, though she wasn't so concerned about the pick pocketing - she'd seen people get seriously hurt from stupid stunts like that, let alone knocking over a kid. Sure, they bounced and all but it wasn't always enough. "That's good but I was more worried that he'd hurt one of you," She looked pointedly to the crying child. "Did he end up running into you as well? Are you alright?" She shook her head slightly, "I'm fine, just a glancing blow - people these days can be such idiots, not even an apology or a look to check you were both okay." She sighed and shook her head again. "Just no consideration. Is she okay?" She added as the young one continued to cry.
”Me make fun of you? Oh never.” Roxanne raised a brow at him, "I get the sense that you're being sarcastic," She teased, though she had no issue with being the brunt of a joke - as long as it was in good humour. She was a smart woman, and had had plenty of times over the years where men had tried to talk down to her or make her seem like a joke to make themselves feel better about being the lesser intelligent. She didn't think Rafe would do that though, with everything she knew about him so far he seemed like a decent guy. She watched his reaction at her exclusivity deal, testing waters to see how he felt about it. ”I don’t date multiple people at once anyway so that’s fine.”
A pleased smile played on her lips, perhaps for once she had found the right person. "Glad to hear it," She said softly, feeling better for having said it, a little more settled than before. With such a tough shield, people never saw her vulnerable side - it was tough to show it even now, but that had been a hint. ”Sure, you can make the coffee if you want?” Rox pushed away from the counter, "That's quite a tough task," She teased, reaching up into the cupboard to pull out two mugs for them both as the water boiled. ”What filling do you normally have?” Roxanne glanced over to Rafe and tilted her head in thought. "Hmmm... surprise me? You can't go wrong." She promised, there wasn't much she wouldn't eat.
Roxanne rarely took that much time for herself but she'd felt the need today. She had finished work early, though she'd felt it only fair when she had gotten up at 5am in preparation to start at 6; she'd had a video conference to attend by 9am, and then back to back meetings after this, and she had wanted to get her afternoon work out of the way before these happened so she was still on top of everything. The company was running well, there had been a boost in sales recently and everyone was a little run off their feet. She had spent time with the investors and the clients to check that they were still pleased with the service but aside from a few things that needed tweaking, everything was looking good. She had started a new project today to check on the employees next; she felt they had been somewhat neglected and wanted to make sure their retention was still okay considering a recent decline, and what they could do to fix that.
But she needed a long afternoon. Things were going well with Rafe and she had plans to see him tonight, but for a couple of hours this afternoon to unwind from the working day. She slipped off her stilettos as she reached the sand, smiling to herself as she dug her toes into the texture. She was still in her work clothes - a nude figure hugging dress, but she didn't mind getting a bit sandy - she'd be heading home and putting it in the wash anyway. Rox was just about to pick a spot to sit when a teenager flew across her path, without even looking - she frowned, managing to stop mid stride to avoid colliding with him - it didn't stop the kid smacking into another stranger who was pushing a stroller. Alarmed and never one to settle for people being inconsiderate, Rox hurried over to the guy and his pram as the teenager picked themselves up and kept running. "Oi!" she shouted after them but they didn't even turn a head. Shaking her head with a tut, she reached the guy. "Are you alright?"
She peered up at him as he raised a brow. ”Nope. .Oh the whole awkward thing? Ugh. . hate that.” She gave a small laugh, a smile spreading over her face as she saw his grin. "You better not make fun of me," She warned, feeling like he was on the cusp of making a joke about her terrible attempt to run out on him. It was funny, but he made her feel younger. It wasn't like the age difference was dramatic, not compared to some she'd known of, but she was inching her way toward 40 and she felt it some days - she liked to go out for a drink but not to go out and club anymore, she didn't do well at sleeping in or late nights, she didn't have endless excitement for life. But Rafe's energy and his vibrancy just brought her to life that little bit more - maybe that was slushy and she was glad she kept that kernel of information to herself.
”Yeah? See what happens naturally?” Roxanne nodded, watching his face - he seemed sincere, open. It didn't feel like he was trying to pull any wool over her eyes. "Okay, we'll date." She gave him a smile and then went to sit up probably, mulling over what she did and didn't want to happen. "This makes us exclusive, I don't divide myself between other people when I date." Not that she was seeing ayone else anyway. She glanced at him. This wasn't something they'd talked about, and she didn't know if he was seeing anyone else - in any capacity. She had been cheated on before, and let down by several men - two had made a very good impression on her in particularly, one being an ex husband which she guessed she should tell Rafe at some point - and whilst it wasn't necessarily cheating to date more than one person at a time, it wasn't her style, and she wasn't a fan of it.
Rox watched him get out of bed, unable to help but let he gaze linger on him indecently - hell he was one good looking man, it was hard to draw her eyes away. ”I make a decent omelette if you’re interested. .poison you? Never. ” She grinned as she watched him walk away, raising an eyebrow, "my very own naked chef." She teased, but not wanting to be left behind, she pushed back the covers and rose, giving her fallen dress a look and then grabbing his discarded shirt from last night instead, slipping it on and buttoning it up half way. Rox padded bare foot after Rafe, tucking her blonde hair behind her ears as she went to lean against the worktop. "Are you in need of a sou-chef?"
She felt stupid and suddenly her thirty-odd years didn't seem to count for anything. It was like being a teenager again in that moment, and she didn't think she liked it. She was always so self assured, so confident, knowing what she wanted - both in life and in the bedroom. She wasn't much for one night stands and rafe kept surprising her by being so unlike what she expected; admittedly she was being judgmental and that wasn't fair - but she needed to get some kind of handle on herself. His soft smile gave a nudge at her heart and she found herself smiling in response without even thinking about it. ”Ouch. . ghosting me after a one night stand?” She winced and pulled a face, "Uuurgh, you're not going to let it drop are you?" It had only just happened but she thought he might keep bringing it up for a while considering her embarrassment. "I wouldn't ghost you though, just slip out and run into your awkwardly later to apologise and wish I could take it back?" She joked, she didn't think she'd be able to hold off contacting him again.
It wasn't just that he was ridiculously good looking, in every way, or that he'd been good in bed, but the fact that he was sweet, and able to hold a decent conversation; he clearly had intelligence - and he was funny, and considerate. And he didn't seem to want to screw around. So refreshing. Why was she ruining it all again? Someone needed to remind her. ”I don’t know what it is either. . it’s new. All I know is that I fancy you like mad and I’d like to see how things go and take you on some dates.” She blew out a breath, figuring that summed it up fairely well. She peered at him, hoping she was not going to regret this, as she had in the past. "So... dating? We date?" Rox suggested, figuring it would be better than 'just casual'. ”Can I make you breakfast before you leave?” Food sounded good, and she half grinned, "Depends, how good of a cook are you? Are you likely to poison me?"
”hmm?” She didn't bother to give him a verbal response, and she felt the light touch of his hand cupping her cheek, the sweetness of the gesture warmed her heart. Damn. How the guy could even still be single she didn't know. ”Well that didn’t feel like a goodbye. .” She gave a sleepy laugh as she pulled back and then she copied him, pulling herself into an upright position and resting back against the board. "I guess not," It felt like a reluctant one to her, and she could quite easily pull the covers back up and hide from the world with his arms wrapped around her, but her niggling voice at the back of her head warned her what had happened last time she'd let a man in so easily.
”You really have to leave so soon?” She glanced at the time and then looked back to him and shook her head. "Not really..." She hesitated, not something she was used to doing. She had always been direct and confident in herself and with people, but Rafe had her questioning things and feeling like she was a teenager again - in some aspects anyway. "I don't know why I just... I'm not really sure what this is and I think I was about to do the cowardly thing." She admitted.
She felt the shift of the bed behind her and knew it was too late to sneak out, she'd woken Rafe. She wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing, her mind still stuck on getting out quick before he could get his mind together, but now running felt underhanded and harsh. She didn't want a one night stand, as much as Rafe surprisingly didn't. She had been there, done that and was looking for long term, it was why she'd been so reluctant to go too far with Rafe, making unfair assumptions that he wouldn't want what she did. But maybe she was wrong.
Rox turned her head, peering over her bare shoulder at him and seeing his sleepy grin. ”You seduce me then leave without saying goodbye? Ouch.” She wrinkled her nose with a guilty expression. "You caught me," She admitted, unable to look away from how damn handsome he looked sleepy eyed and with his hair mused. Her heart gave a traitorous squeeze and she mentally cursed it. "But now you're awake, I can say a proper goodbye," One side of her lips quirked up and she turned to face him, bending down to give him a kiss.
Rox awoke slowly, a frown already adorning her forehead as her first waking thought was that her alarm hadn't gone off. She rarely worked weekends if she could avoid it - she used to, but it had started her on the path to burn out too often and wasn't worth the hassle. She still liked to get up early though, to make the most of her days whilst she could. No alarm though, and she wondered for a moment if it was ridiculously early. She yawned quietly and then squeezed her eyes before opening them.. and nearly jumped out of her skin as the body lying next to her and the unfamiliar sheets. A quick moment of what the fuck panic and then it all came rushing back. Oh. The couples valentine's ball, and then Rafe inviting her back to his for a drink, and her accepting... and then never leaving. Her cheeks flooded with a blush - despite her age, this young man had one hell of an effect on her. Plus, she had to say, young men certainly were better than those her age - or maybe it was just Rafe.
She bit her lip and slowly lifted her head. She should probably go, she knew that their situationship was a strange one. He had never pushed her once, never pressured. They had met by chance a handful of times, it felt like the universe was trying to tell her something - if she believed in that shit - and then they had been on dates. Rafe had proved time and time again that he was sweet, that he was patient, had a wise head and wasn't looking for a fling, like everyone else Rox seemed to sodding meet. Add to that his very good looks and ridiculously insane body and somewhere it didn't seem to add up. But she had been the one to seduce him last night, and she knew she had feelings for him mingling beneath the surface of the confusion. It was just a few things holding her back; not even just the age, but also her previous history with men who appeared to be good for her, and turned into complete assholes. This night over was absolutely blurring the lines, and though it had been 100% worth it, she carefully made to sit up, the covers sliding down her bare shoulder as she decided slipping out was the best option.

roxanne was born in the centre of london 32 years ago. her parents were happy with a girl, although they hadn't actually planned children, and as neither wished for another child, roxy for their only daughter. her father worked in a well known chain bakery whilst her mother competed in dressage on a beautiful mare by the name of Excalibur. however when roxy was three years old, there was an incident at the bakery that caused some anxieties - some london gang took an interest in it, started harassing workers there until finally they sent it up in flames one night. scared of the area they were living in, karen begged her husband to pack them up and move them elsewhere, and so they settled for the southern outskirts where he soon brought his own little bakery.
roxanne was ambitious right from the beginning - her parent's weren't very driven themselves, happy with the lots they'd drawn in life, but she wanted more. she wasn't arrogant and actually she was brought up with proper manners and how to respect people. she used to go into her dad's bakery and watch him cook - help him even when she got older, but cooking wasn't her forte. she worked hard in school right from the beginning of her education, and found during secondary school that she thrived in business studies - a subject she went on to study at college (along with maths, english and french) and then at university. she really got stuck into the work and earned herself an apprenticeship at an important company in london which she's worked for ever since, working up the ladder toward ceo.
the problem was it meant relationships took a back seat for her. she went of a couple of dates here or there with guys she met but a lot of them only wanted one night, and the couple of times she let herself slip and spent the night with them, they didn't call her back. it was frustrating but mostly upsetting, and it put her trust in men right to the back of her mind. a few years into her job at the company, she met a nice man, ambitious like she was, who took interest in her and after a few dates things went well. he was reliable, he called and met her when he said he would, and he promised they could keep work and pleasure separate. they were together for almost two years, during which she climbed further up the ladder whilst he did not and cracks began to show in their relationship. he was tired of her putting her career first, jealous that she was thriving and more successful than him. she tried to rectify things and thought they could have worked if he hadn't had done the impossible - he screwed her over. he set her up at the company, and on her head she lost thousands of pounds. it hadn't been her fault, it had been a set up and luckily her boss found out and she was saved from the chopping block, whilst the guy was fired instead, but she vowed not to let a man do that to her again. she lost control and she couldn't let a guy get under her skin again.
She spent the next few years working on her career, moving from place to place until she settled with her office in London. As CEO she was in charge of running the place and she made the move for their benefit. The a few months everything was fine...and then she met another guy. On the way back from a business trip in America she happened to pick up the wrong bag - identical to her own - and in doing so met her future husband. He was a charmer, and driven just like her. Their romance was whirlwind, head over heels and they were married within the year just before Rox turned 27. They were happy for two years. During which time everything seemed to just..work. Their time off seemed to fall together, and on the times it didn't she was able to go and cheer him on at events, or he was able to come on trips with her and make use of the hotel room. She was on top of the world. Then it all went to shit. She was there when the accident happened. It was the scariest thing in the world, and for a second she thought she was going to lose him. In the end she did, but not with death. The months that came after where a struggle. She suddenly found herself having to support a household with only her income, she couldn't be in two places at once but when Will really began to hit rock bottom she was put under pressure from work to stop taking any further time off or passing up business trips. Something had to break. Rox had no idea how much longer she could take, especially when Will turned to drink; she struggled to find the time to work, care for her husband, and sort out the house and shopping and not get fired.
It came to a head in the end. Rox had to go on a business trip, that or get fired and lose everything, and during this time Will began a short affair. It just so happened the girl happened to be a friend of a friend, somehow she happened to be out on the one evening that Rox managed to get out of the house for an hour, happened to be on the table next door where their mutual friends all mingled as a group...and then she happened to brag about the affair. Rox couldn't believe it at first, she hadn't even thought Will had been going out of the house, but the more the girl talked and talked the more it sunk in until she couldn't deal with it anymore. To her credit she didn't flip out...just one quick slap to the face, leaving everyone in shock...then she left. She hadn't bothered to wake Will. She'd packed her bags and waited until morning when he woke hungover in order to tell him she was leaving, that she knew about the affair and she was done. Rox didn't want a big show down, she had to leave. She still loved him and it hurt, it hurt like damn hell. She threw herself into work full fold, moving the business to Hickstead and filing for a divorce. She left everything up to the lawyers, wanting no part and no drama in the divorce.

dislikes: being over ruled sexism pushy guys religion strongly opinionated people letting her hair down getting screwed over in business guys who don't call when they say they will one night stands making a fool of herself being out of control being tired when the coffee maker won't work being late to meetings
strengths: intelligent independent strong knows what she wants fair honest reliable responsible
weaknesses: persistance in a guy good deals warm hugs parties - she can be a real party animal a good massage bubble baths ben and jerry's ice cream rom-com's
secrets: can be a real party animal and once got so drunk she allowed a stranger to do body shots off her and then take her back to his.
fears: rejection heart break demotion loss of someone she loves the ocean
habits: biting her lip running her hands through her hair or playing with it playing with the sleeves of a jumper - if she's wearing one checking her phone pushes people away if she's getting too close to them
overall personality: the first thing you'll realise about roxy is that she's a rather ambitious woman. for years now, her life has been about her career, and whilst she's let things slip because of it, she's finally happy where she is - ceo of a company. she wants to make it right to the top and to stay there. she's not nasty and whilst she will step on toes to get there if she has to, she's not ruthless and she'd rather turn a position down than cut someone down to get there. she's a strong woman, incredibly independent and she dislikes having to rely upon someone - especially a man. okay, so she's a bit of a feminist, and if you're going to be sexist you'll get a bit of bite from her, but generally she's an easy person to work with. she's hard-working, efficient, reliable and honest, with a knack for knowing how to turn in the profits.
she likes a bit of banter here or there as much as the next person, but she does act responsible and sometimes she will become a little strict to keep people in line if she has to. still, she's a nice woman, pretty light hearted and open minded if you ever need someone to talk to. she can tend to speak her mind a little if people over step the mark, but it's not arrogance. she's actually very modest, but the one thing is she does like to be in control. perhaps it's a little bit of a control freak thing, but she finds it hard to let someone else take the reins in projects or even in relationships. she's a natural born leader, encouraging and all but if she feels like she's not in control she might start to pull back from people a little or put them back in line. it makes it hard to keep a relationship going, which is why she tends to stay away from guys.
then...there's another side to her - one you might not usually see. she does like working but at the same time she loves her time off. she really enjoys having a chance to relax and take a step back from the rush at work. she doesn't usually party or drink much anymore, she did a little too much of it in college and realised that she tended to be a little bit too wild when she drank. she never allows herself to fully let her hair down anymore, but when she does boy does she go crazy - she has a high alcoholic tolerance but she'll keep going until she's passed it, she's less worried about her reputation, she flirts, she dances, she says whatever's on her mind...and then always regrets it the next morning; hence why she never lets herself have more than a couple of glasses of wine here or there. but if you ever get her to let her hair down then enjoy the show![/ul][/size][/ul]
